Background Information: Inspired by Egyptian revolution Rebels want to oust current “dictator” and leader Colonel  Muammar Gaddafi,  who has been in power for 42 years
The First Revolt Started out as peaceful protests in  Benghazi  on  Feb. 15 th , 2011 More protests and demonstrations followed Clashes between police and protesters became violent
The Government’s Response Gaddafi vows to “fight to the last drop of blood” and sends army Government blocks internet and electricity in regions Benghazi airport is shut down
The Revolt Continue Rebels move to take military bases and cities from government control Rebels burn down government buildings Government moves to reclaim them
The March to the Capital Rebel morale high Rebels start advancing toward capital  3/6/11: Government tries to stop them with air power (missiles and artillery)
In Tripoli Gunfire heard early Sunday morning, but authorities claim it was the military base’s celebration of victory All day, pro-Gaddafi supporters rally in square
