Introduction
Many comments will be made by politicians to
pander for votes. This presentation provides facts
about government from 1993 until 2019.
This presentation was done to help clarity to
statements made by leaders in terms of household
debt, fiscal management, employment, GDP growth,
GDP per capita and other policy areas.
Rankings
Liberals rankings on their site do not reflect the most up-to-date data.

Assumptions
1. Based on GDP by sector
2. Based on annual growth rates
3. Based on GDP growth rates (no GDP available after
1997)
• Trudeau’s policies have not helped the middle class -
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-middle-class-liberals-vs-cpc-july-

GDP Growth vs Population Growth
Source – Stats Canada
1. Information is based
on GDP by sector

2019
• Trudeau’s immigration policies are neither balance nor effective -
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-immigration-and-border-control-
canada-august-2019
• Trudeau has done a poor job on getting goods to market. Getting goods to market would
drive GDP growth - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-merchandise-
trade-canada-june-2019
Trade by Leader
Source – Stats Canada
1. Data only available up to 1997
Employment
• Ralph Goodale never mention either the recession 2008-2009 or the fact that job quality has been sliding for
nearly 20 years
• Trudeau’s Policies have not supported goods producing jobs -

Household Debt
Source – RBC and https://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/canadas-household-debt-is-now-bigger-than-its-gdp-for-the-first-time
• Goodale leaves out that many facts like
household debt was increasing starting in
2001 under the Federal Liberals
• Goodale never mentioned the systemic
issues with housing -
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/20
19-election-housing-affordability-canada-

• Household debt under Trudeau is at the
highest level ever -

Fiscal Management
• Ralph Goodale leaves out that LPC in the
1990s were forced to do austerity measures
-
https://www.policyalternatives.ca/publicatio
ns/monitor/beware-canadian-austerity-
model
• Ralph Goodale also leaves out the 2008-
2009 recession including how the Bloc,
Liberals and NDP forced the stimulus -

• Trudeau’s deficit have done nothing for
GDP. Trudeau’s average GDP is 2% as
compare to Harper post-recession rate of
2.3% -

GDP and Deficits
Who do you trust more on the economy?
@justintrudeau – Cdns are getting poorer everyday - https://www.thepostmillennial.com/trudeaus-economy-is-a-total-
failure/
@andrewscheer – Energy and Natural Resources sector could see a boon - https://business.financialpost.com/news/fp-
street/td-analysts-canada-energy-bonds-could-be-boosted-if-scheer-beats-trudeau-in-october
Healthcare
@JustinTrudeau promise during the 2015 election that he would change the healthcare funding
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-2015-learned-this-week-aug22-1.3200542
Harper funded transfers at 6%, but that was not sustainable. There is a middle ground to be had with the transfers, right?
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/healthcare-crisis-canada-july-2019
Environment
@justintrudeau whose party only approach is a
regressive tax and yet still allows sewage to be
dumped into waterways.
@AndrewScheer approach is more balance

climate/world-emissions-paris-goals-not-on-
track.html “Three years after nearly 200 countries
signed a landmark climate agreement in Paris, they are
still far off-track from preventing severe global warming
in the decades ahead. This month, diplomats from
around the world are gathering in Katowice, Poland, to
discuss stepping up their efforts.”
Affordability
@justintrudeau policies have made things less affordable https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2019/09/05/canadas-middle-
class-feels-the-squeeze.html
@Andrewscheer was part of a government that led to Canada having one of the best middle classes in the world -
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-middle-class-canada-august-2019
Poverty
Liberals need to show their exact calculation for the so called 800K reduction in poverty.
1. Food bank usage - https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/food-banks-canada-for-first-time-releases-hungercount-digital-report-for-all-access-

5. Liberals only tout their child tax benefits which is only marginally better than the CPC - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-child-tax-
benefits-canada . The liberals do not discuss the full impact of carbon taxes on the low income - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-
taxing-pollution-canada-august-2019
Housing Affordability
Who would you trust to make housing more affordable?
@justintrudeau that introduced a Ponzi scheme for first-time buyers
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/british-columbia/article-
experts-question-rollout-of-federal-housing-funds/
@andrewscheer who was part of a govt that reform the mortgage rules

Tax Impact
You would think the transit tax credit
encourage people to use transit which it
did when you look at ridership
Trudeau said people were no using the
tax credit and/or ridership was not
going up.
http://cutaactu.ca/en/news-
media/latest-news/transit-ridership-
growing-canada “2017 saw a 1.5%
increase in Canadian transit trips
over the previous year, according to
new data released by CUTA. ”

more in terms of carbon taxes

Immigration
Foreign Policies / Reputation
It is no wonder foreign relations are in the toilet when you have @cafreeland making these kinds of comments! How so?
Foreign relations are in toilet. Very few countries have any respect for you and your foreign policies affairs lead
@cafreeland
Who said Canada was back in October 2015? @justintrudeau
The problem is Canada is not back!
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-foreign-aid-and-foriegn-polices-canada
Crime @justintrudeau is great a word salad when it comes to gun
violence, but low on solutions
https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-ditch-hug-

@andrewscheer was part of a government that was tough on
crime
Gun violence will not change unless there are tougher laws
including bail conditions!
We also need to address the systemic issues that are leading to
violent crime

Seniors and Poverty

• Liberals forced carbon tax which has led to issues with seniors, i.e. electricity and food costs - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2015-
election-promise-justin-trudeau-and-liberals-i-will-make-things-more-affordable
• Poverty is still a big issue - https://cpj.ca/poverty-trends-2018/
• GIS needs to be review to ensure it benefiting the seniors - https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/publicpensions/cpp/old-age-
security/guaranteed-income-supplement/eligibility.html
Middle Class
@Justintrudeau There is threshold for child tax benefits which is 31,120 (2019).
The middle class starts at $45,916 or nearly 15K above the threshold which
means benefits would be clawed back
@andrewscheer is right that Cdns are paying higher taxes based on the filings or
about $100 more per middle class filer)
This does not include the impact of the carbon tax which is about $1,000/person
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/middle-class-are-you-better-off-in-
2019-canada/paulyoungcga/middle-class-are-you-better-off-in-2019-canada
Wealthiest
@theJagmeetSingh @JustinTrudeau both focus on the rich, but they are doing in a way that is not truthful
The top 1% are paying less of the federal tax despite the Libs increasing the tax rates
You cannot tax someone to prosperity
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/taxing-the-top-1-and-economic-prosperity
Conclusion
 Too many statements are made by politicians that are misleading, especially when data presented is not
express either with complete facts or with the right context
 Too many politicians developing policy based on feeling and not whether the policy will be effective -
https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-public-sector-efficiency-canada-july-2019
 There needs to be better balance between the environment and the economy
 There needs to be emphasis on tax fairness including closing down tax havens, reforming tax act, etc.
 Government needs to undertake more performance audits and operational audits to ensure taxpayers are
getting value for money
 All levels of governments need to look at better ways to managed scarce tax dollars, especially solving issues
with infrastructure - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-infrastructure-and-capital-
spending-canada-june-2019

  • 4. Introduction Many comments will be made by politicians to pander for votes. This presentation provides facts about government from 1993 until 2019. This presentation was done to help clarity to statements made by leaders in terms of household debt, fiscal management, employment, GDP growth, GDP per capita and other policy areas.
  • 5. Rankings Liberals rankings on their site do not reflect the most up-to-date data. https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/justin-trudeau-scorecard-2015-to-2019-august-2019 *** I can provide my sources if you lie!
  • 6. GDP per capita Source – Stats Canada Assumptions 1. Based on GDP by sector 2. Based on annual growth rates 3. Based on GDP growth rates (no GDP available after 1997) • Trudeau’s policies have not helped the middle class - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-middle-class-liberals-vs-cpc-july- 2019 • Trudeau’s policies have allowed the top 1% to pay less taxes - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-wealtiest-top-1-canada-august- 2019 • Trudeau’s poverty numbers are far from accurate. Poverty has been declining for years - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-poverty-canada-july-2019
  • 7. GDP Growth vs Population Growth Source – Stats Canada 1. Information is based on GDP by sector 2. Population is based on annual numbers (estimates) • There needs to be more balance between economic and environmental policies - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-canada-competitivenes-august- 2019 • Trudeau’s immigration policies are neither balance nor effective - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-immigration-and-border-control- canada-august-2019 • Trudeau has done a poor job on getting goods to market. Getting goods to market would drive GDP growth - https://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/2019-election-merchandise- trade-canada-june-2019
  • 8. Trade by Leader Source – Stats Canada 1. Data only available up to 1997
