1. To Whom It May Concern,
I have known Wayne Barthule since grade school, and he has been a good friend ever since.
I have worked with Wayne as a youth sports camp director and employed him for five
years at my fireworks stand. I wholeheartedly recommend Wayne based on his work ethic,
intelligence and personality.
Wayne and I attended the University of Washington together. Of all my friends and contacts
during college, I cannot think of a harder working individual than Wayne. Unlike many of
his peers, Wayne’s family could not pay for his education, so he worked in numerous part-
time positions and earned multiple scholarships to fully fund his education and support
himself, all while excelling in his difficult coursework. He miraculously maintained a
balanced life with this heavy workload, participating on intramural sports teams, helping
me prepare physically for ROTC training and enjoying time with his many friends. In
retrospect, it does not seem like there are enough hours in the day to accomplish what
Wayne did during college, let alone to accomplish it with his ever-present smile.
For a summer, Wayne and I both served as youth sports camp directors. The position
involved responsibility for the safety of up to 50children, supervision of the multiple camp
“coaches” and overall planning of the camp. Without any previous experience, Wayne was
hired as a director based on his impressive resume and interview, and quickly excelled,
demonstrating his effortless leadership and ability to learn quickly. He was great with the
kids, his “coaches” enjoyed working for him and his supervisors were impressed with how
quickly he learned the details of his position. Wayne also worked for me for several
summers at my seasonal fireworks stand. The decision to hire Wayne was easy, as I could
not think of a harder working, more reliable individual. He consistently required minimal
direction and learned very rapidly, making my job much easier. What makes Wayne truly
unique, however, is his fun and likable personality in combination with his extraordinary
work ethic.
As a friend of nearly 20 years, what I continue to appreciate about Wayne is his positive
attitude and people skills. He is kind, considerate, and respectful; he makes friends
effortlessly and has a magnetic personality. His constant smile and upbeat attitude make
hima pleasure to be around, both at and away from work. Wayne is a hard worker,
intelligent leader and a great friend, and would be an asset to any organization fortunate
enough to have him.
Sincerely,
