This lesson plan provides five activities for students based on a book about dinosaurs they have been reading. The activities include a quiz to test knowledge, matching body parts to descriptions, a crossword about defense mechanisms, reordering a sentence about eyes, and a cloze text about extinction. The activities focus on different sections of the book and are meant to be done in pairs or groups, though no set order is required except the cloze activity is suggested for last. The goal is to reinforce concepts from the book through entertaining and dynamic work in different formats.

Aim
The lesson is intented to provide students with five different activities based on a book
the whole group has been reading since the last four lessons. During those lessons,
students have been asked to write reports using the information in the book itself and
carrying out extra research, they have had speaking sessions and oral presentations
organised by the teacher and have answered different questionnaires with the intention
of checking comprehension.
All five activities focus on different sections of the book.
Activities
Students will be asked to work in pairs or groups of three solving the five activities.
Though no special order to be followed will be imposed, the ‘Cloze’ activity will be
suggested to be left for the very end, not only because of its length but also because its
topic is the same that is dealt with at the end of the book.
Quiz – How much do you know about dinosaurs?
This activity is intended to test general knowledge which students have been acquiring
during the past lessons through previous different activities. It could be suggested as the
first one of the set if we took it as a ‘How much do you remember?’ activity for students
to have fun and test themselves / each other in a dynamic and entertaining way.
Match – How did their bodies work?
This activity focuses on a special section of the book concerning dinosaurs’ bodies, how
they functioned in spite of their size and the comparison with animals existing these
days. Students are required to match the two parts of different statements to form the
complete sentence.
Crossword - How did dinosaurs protect themselves from attack?
The crossword focuses on the main items of vocabulary learnt throughout the whole
book, making special emphasis on items referring to the title of the activity. The activity
includes not only statements but also images which will help students guess the
corresponding word.

Mix – Dinosaurs’ eyes
A mixed seventeen-word sentence is provided for students to put it in the correct order.
Students will find out that correct shorter versions can be reached though the aim of the
activity is to find the correct version for the whole sentence.
Cloze – What happened to dinosaurs?
Students are required to fill in the gaps with a suitable word that matches the context.
The topic chosen focuses on dinosaurs’ extinction and the possible explanations to their
sudden disappearance. The text is a reduced extract from the original version students
will have already read and discussed in previous lessons and the words omitted carry
content rather than function. Therefore, the focus is on vocabulary.
