COVID-19 is a new disease caused by a novel coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2 that was first identified during an outbreak in Wuhan, China in late 2019. Coronaviruses are common viruses that can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases like SARS. COVID-19 is caused by a new strain of coronavirus not previously seen in humans. It has since caused a global pandemic.
