Drawing Board
provides a straight working edge
necessary for constructing horizontal and
vertical lines
Drafting Machine
is a combination
of several drafting
tools in a single
contraption
Technical Pen
are precision inking
tools that come with
points of varying
thickness from 0.10-
2.0mm depending in the
line required
Metric Scale
is used to reproduce the dimensions of an
object in a full, reduced or enlarge size on a
drawing
Adjustable Triangle
are used to draw angles
other than the usual 15
degree increments
T-Square
is used to construct horizontal lines, it
also serves as a base for triangles when
drawing vertical lines
Parallel Rule
it moves up and down the drawing
surface by means of pulleys and guide rope
Triangles
triangles with 30-60-
90 degree and 45-45-
90 degree angles are
for drawing vertical
lines
Protractor
is used to measure and draw angles
Compass
is used for
drawing circles
and arcs
Divider
is a type of compass
with needle points on
both ends and is used
for laying off points or
transferring dimensions
Pencil
are basic instruments used in
mechanical drawing and come in varying
degrees of hardness
Eraser
is used to clean the dirt in the drawing
Erasing Shield
it restricts the erasing area
Cutter, Sharpener,
Sandpaper
are various tools used for creating sharp
conical pencil points
Dusting Brush
is used to remove loose dirt particles that
collect on the drawing
French Curve and Flexi-Curve
A French curve is made
of clear plastic and is
used for drawing a
noncircular curve.
A Flexi-curve is used for
drawing irregular curves.
Templates
are used for drafting symbols or repetitive
figures
Proper Use and Care of Drafting
Materials and Equipment
•1. Do not roll your instruments over the drawing
paper. Lift them.
•2. Use a drafting tape in fixing a drafting sheet to
the drawing so as not to damage the boards
surface the way thumbtacks do.
•3. Before using the T-square, test the working
edge of the board. The T-square must be
perpendicular to its head.
Good Working Habits
•1. Never sharpen a pencil over the drawing paper.
•2. Always start with very light construction lines
and apply the appropriate line weights
•3. Minimize the use of an eraser
•4. Use the dusting brush to remove eraser
crumbs and other particles from the drawing
surface
•5. Keep a cloth to wipe the excess graphite
powder from a newly sharpened lead
