Blockchain Patents for Innovation Data 3Q 2018 is a custom research of TechIPm, LLC (http://www.techipm.com) based on blockchain patents search in the USPTO database as of 3Q 2018. Total of 1246 patents (published patent applications & issued patents) are identified as blockchain patents indicating blockchain technology innovation activities.
Top 10 assignees/applications are IBM, Bank of America, Mastercard, Wal-Mart, TD Bank, Intel, American Express, Accenture, Cognitive Scale, Inc., and Coinbase.
The identified blockchain patents are further classified by key technologies for blockchain applications: security, transaction, cryptocurrency, database, smart contract, blockchain network, consensus, decentralized application, and AI.
As the year comes to an end, it is time to look ahead to see what the next year will bring us. Now for the 7th year in a row, I offer you my two cents on the most important technology trends for 2019 to help you, and your business, prepare for the next year. As we approach the end of the second decade of this new millennium, technology is evolving faster than ever before. These exponential times will have a profound effect on what it means to be human and how we manage organisations and societies. 2019 will be a year in which technology will improve its grip on society and where competition among countries over AI and quantum supremacy will increase. That is why I would like to call 2019 the Year of Truth. Let’s have a look at the seven technology trends that will dominate 2019.

This is our first version of the product for the law and justice industry. We have AI based agent that works along with a lawyer to intake his cases and his explanations in support of his decisions. Various AI network graphs are developed to represent the case, analyse it and relate to the rules, sections and jury related terms. It helps lawyers in manual scanning of large volumes and also aids with earlier decisions with similar charges

Title: Fingerprinting Latent Structure in Data
Abstract: As data-hungry algorithms find wide spread applications, there is an increased interest in exploring these algorithms in the context of small-data. In many niche industrial applications, data is not only held in secrecy for reasons of privacy and competitive advantage, but is also limited in volume and variety. Under these constraints, data-driven algorithms are expected to exhibit low application misbehavior. If one can discard data that does not match capabilities of underlying algorithms, there is better control over how unexpected data can influence the application behavior. In this talk, data fingerprinting techniques are presented in the context of small-data and application behavior. Capturing and representing a latent structure in data as a fingerprint helps evolve algorithm complexity, thereby improving application reliability. As an illustration, problems involving question answering, cell structure detection, and recognition of classes of short textual messages will be discussed.

Ai and applications in the legal domain studium generale maastricht 20191101jcscholtes
November 20, 2019, it was my great pleasure to present a special lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Application in the Legal Domain. In this lecture I discuss how the development of machines that can learn, reason and act intelligently – Artificial Intelligence (AI) – is advancing rapidly in the legal domain. In some areas, machine intelligence have even already surpassed the limits of what the brightest human minds are capable of achieving, especially in the field of eDiscovery and Legal Review of large data set.
In others, machines still struggle with seemingly basic tasks. Nonetheless, breakthroughs in AI already have profound impact on the legal profession. AI is set to improve our world now and will continue to do so in the future. At the same time, there is the fear of losing control.
This lecture was part of a larger series on AI organized by our department of data science and knowledge engineering: https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/events/artificial-intelligence.

From 7331 to legal : a selection of blockchain discussion topicsKoen Vingerhoets
During the Computational Law & Blockchain Festival (#clbfest19) of 2019/03/16, organised by the @LegalHackersBXL (@Tommy Vandepitte), I had the opportunity to address a room filled with legal people. Awesome!!
I started with a short business inspired explanation of #blockchain (oh - #hashing was there too), followed by a deeper dive in some specific topics. These topics are imho the elements requiring more legal input and as such a better understanding. Collaboration between your 7331 IT people and their legal colleagues benefits from a common view on the technology.
Koen Vingerhoets (https://www.slideshare.net/koenvingerhoets) explained (a) the basics of blockchain in its 6 key elements (transparency, ownership, traceability, distributed, trust, smart contracts) and (b) a few technical aspects on blockchain, like hashing, smart and ricardian contracts, bugs in the code, private ledgers, aspects to take into account to govern a (private) blockchain, and the impact of (EU) regulation.
The context was the second (2019) edition of the Computational Law and Blockchain Festival (#CLBFest), Brussels' node.
Tokenization on Blockchain is a steady trend of 2018. It seems that everything is being tokenized on Blockchain from paintings, diamonds and company stocks to real estate. Thus, we took an asset, tokenized it and created its digital representation that lives on Blockchain. Blockchain guarantees that the ownership information is immutable.
Unfortunately, some problems need to be solved before we can successfully tokenize real-world assets on Blockchain. Main problem stems from the fact that so far, no country has a solid regulation for cryptocurrency. For example, what happens if a company that handles tokenization sells the property? They have no legal rights on the property and thus are not protected by the law. Another problem is that this system brings us back some sort of centralization. The whole idea of Blockchain and especially smart contracts is to create a trustless environment.

Tokenization is a method that converts a digital value into a digital token. Tokenization can be used as a method that converts rights to an asset into a digital token. The tokenization system can be implemented local to the data that is tokenized or offloaded to cloud. Tokenization in cloud can provide a lower total cost of ownership by sharing resources implementation and administration. A high level of security can be achieved by separating the tokenization system into a container that can be run on-prem (for larger banks) or isolated in a remote private cloud.
Please join my session that will discuss tokenization, blockchain and tokenization in blockchain.
