1. Legacy Project
Perry Stockwell
Swac has taught me one main lesson and as my legacy I want to share this lesson with
you. You could say what they taught me is to use my map. First you need to find where on this
map you want to travel. Then you need to figure out how you are going to get there. Now you
need to work your ass off to get there. Now think of this hypothetical map as your life, your
past, your future, the good and the bad. Now take this map and spread it on the table your
past is clear but your future is your paradise to build still. Even if your past limits your future if
you look hard enough there is a back road with a higher speed limit to get you there. Swac is
this back road, it’s not an ideal route to take but it will get you there and it will feel great when
you do.
The first step is simple, think about what you want to complete and set long and short
term goals that correlate with your final goal of success. Swac focuses on showing you that it is
very possible to succeed in this world if you are willing to put forth the necessary effort. For my
future long term goal I want to be a lawyer or business executive, because of swac I am not
forced to choose right this moment of what direction I want to go because they made it clear to
me that I could take another route that doesn’t close the either window of opportunity.
Now you need to figure out how you’re going to achieve that final goal or reach that
final destination. Just like traveling a city you can take many different routes and different
modes of transportation, some that will be fast and others slow but they all have their benefits
and disadvantages. College is just like driving a car, often very reliable and will get you to your
final destination quickly; you’ll learn practical real life situations which will give you valuable
experiences you can learn from. The problem with university is that people assume if they do
well in school they will be able to find a job but the reality is that even if you have a degree that
doesn’t guarantee you a job you still need to network and go the extra mile to get noticed over
the other candidates. This being said university can be a better fit for you depending on your
personal characteristics and connections. For example if you have a job lined up and all you
need is your degree than university will be a good fit.
No for the hard part which is actually doing the work to get to your final destination, but
have no fear swac is here! In swac they teach you how to plan to stay on top of not only your
school work load but your personal work load. They do many classes on how to manage stress
and how to keep you motivated. They show you that everything in your day to day life can
2. contribute to your stress or it can run smoothly; the decision purely lies in your hands. If you
set goals and have self control to make the decision that will benefit your future and not your
present. For example choosing to stay home and finish your work on a Wednesday night
because you know it is due Monday and you have plans this weekend. Mainly remember two
thing small sacrifices will make a big difference and keep your eye on the long term goals while
completing the short term goals that bring you a step closer to your destination.
At the end of the day swac is like an express way it allows you to get your final
destination as fast as you can. Swac allows you to prove to yourself you can do whatever you
set your mind too. If you follow these three easy steps; figure out and plan what you want to
do, figure out and plan how you’re going to do it and lastly follow through with you plan and
untimely reach your goals.
