2. Research Question
Have the buildings in Salt Lake City which have
been adapted to be LEED certified decreased
energy consumption?
3. Background
● US Green Building Council (USGBC)
● Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
● LEED Results?
○ Study Area: Salt Lake City
○ Unit of Analysis: Specific Buildings
● Importance of Building Energy Consumption
5. Methods
● Energy Use of LEED Buildings in Salt Lake City, Pre and Post Certification
● Data Collection from Rocky Mountain Power through Building Managers
● Variables
Independent - Location (Salt Lake City), Specific Buildings
Dependent - LEED Implementation, Energy Consumption
● Data Analysis (Pilot Test)
Collected Data from Architectural Nexus for 1 year before and 1 year
after LEED Implementation
7. Conclusion
Our findings have shown the buildings in Salt Lake
City which have been adapted to be LEED
certified decreased in energy consumption.
(Outside of current lack of data for the Salt Lake area.)
Hypothesis is that If buildings are adapted to be LEED certified they will decrease in energy consumption.
USGBC - Green Building Policy/Code, Better Buildings - Greener buildings, Incentives and Financing
LEED - is helping buildings around the world save energy, water, resources, and money while amplifying human health and well-being.
LEED Results? - Mixed results in studies done to measure LEED impacts on energy consumption.
Building Energy Consumption - Almost 75% of our total energy consumption in the US and we spend little time on the waste our buildings produce.
