Management of Benign Hyperplasia of Prostate with Polyherbal Unani FormulationYounis I Munshi
This study evaluated the efficacy of a polyherbal Unani formulation for managing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in 30 patients over 2.5 months. The formulation contained capsules of Sirs and tablets of Habbe Muqil. International Prostate Symptom Scores significantly decreased from 15.6 to 3.33, and quality of life scores improved significantly. Previous studies found the individual herbs have anti-inflammatory properties that could help reduce BPH symptoms. The results were encouraging and warrant further research to develop an effective Unani treatment for BPH.

Why is research on herbal medicinal products important and how can we improve...Younis I Munshi
This document discusses research on herbal medicinal products and proposes ways to improve its quality. It notes that while research on herbal products is increasingly published, reviews often find a lack of high-quality studies. Reasons for this include a lack of funding and collaboration. It argues that new approaches are needed, like network pharmacology, to study complex herbal mixtures with multiple components and targets. Omic tools could help populate models and provide experimental data. The document advocates standardized herbal products and following good clinical practice guidelines. It provides the Good Practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine Research consortium as an example of improving research quality.

This study analyzed uroflowmetry data, IPSS scores, and prostate sizes in 1,041 asymptomatic Brazilian men ages 40-70 who underwent a health screening. The average maximum flow rate was 17.4 mL/s. While IPSS and prostate size increased with age, they had a weak correlation with maximum flow rate cutoffs of 10 mL/s and 15 mL/s. Of the men, 8.3% were over 60 years old and still had maximum flow rates over 15 mL/s. Additionally, 117 men had IPSS scores under 8 but maximum flow rates under 10 mL/s, indicating a poor correlation between these factors in asymptomatic men. The study concludes that establishing normal uroflowmetry cutoffs
Therapeutic targeting of cancer cell metabolism --role of metabolic enzymes, ...Younis I Munshi
The document summarizes recent developments in understanding the role of metabolic enzymes, oncogenes, and tumor suppressor genes in cancer progression and their potential as therapeutic targets. It discusses how cancer cells reprogram their metabolism to support uncontrolled proliferation. Key enzymes and pathways discussed include hexokinase, which phosphorylates glucose and fuels glycolysis; phosphofructokinase-2 and its role in regulating glycolytic flux; and pyruvate kinase isoforms PKM1 and PKM2 and their different functions in cancer metabolism. The document also examines how oncogenes like MYC and hypoxia-inducible factors influence these metabolic pathways to promote the Warburg effect and support tumor growth.

This document summarizes research on how psoriasis is affected during different hormonal stages in a woman's life. It finds that psoriasis severity often peaks during puberty, postpartum, and menopause when hormone levels fall, while symptoms improve during pregnancy when hormone levels are higher. Specifically, it reports that psoriasis frequently develops or worsens during puberty due to declining hormone levels after menarche. During pregnancy, 55% of patients experience improvement in psoriasis due to high estrogen levels, whereas 65% experience worsening postpartum when estrogen and progesterone levels drop. Psoriasis also commonly flares up during menopause when estrogen levels decrease.
Prokinetic effect of herbomineral unani formulation (dolabi) in diabetic ratsYounis I Munshi
This study investigated the prokinetic effects of the Unani herbomineral formulation Dolabi in diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in rats by injecting streptozotocin. Dolabi treatment significantly increased gastric emptying and intestinal transit in diabetic rats compared to untreated diabetic rats. Dolabi also significantly decreased the EC50 of acetylcholine in the distal colon of diabetic rats, indicating improved smooth muscle response. In vitro, Dolabi showed potent antioxidant activity by scavenging stable DPPH free radicals. The results suggest Dolabi may exert its prokinetic effects by reducing oxidative stress in diabetes and could be useful for treating gastrointestinal impairments in diabetic patients.

This document summarizes a study that evaluated the performance of short dietary questions compared to 24-hour dietary recall data from the 2007 Australian National Children's Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (n=4487 children). The study assessed questions about usual daily fruit/vegetable intake and type of milk usually consumed. Intake estimates from the short questions were compared to intake grouped from the 24-hour recalls. The study found stepwise increases in fruit/vegetable intake measured by recall across response categories to the short questions. However, the short questions did not detect decreases in fruit intake with age like the recalls did. Agreement between milk type from recalls and the short question was around 85% for whole milk but lower for other types

This study assessed opinions and attitudes about cupping therapy among the general population in Karachi, Pakistan. A survey of 400 individuals found that over half were aware of cupping therapy and nearly 60% believed it helped treat illnesses. Most felt it had fewer side effects and was cost-effective compared to other treatments. While interest in learning more about cupping was high, most were reluctant to discuss it with their doctors. The study concluded there was a positive attitude toward cupping therapy but more public awareness campaigns are needed to educate about alternative treatment options.

It should also include a workflow of how information is communicated, used and stored across the entire organization.
5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.
These lecture slides, by Dr Sidra Arshad, offer a simplified look into the mechanisms involved in the regulation of respiration:
Learning objectives:
1. Describe the organisation of respiratory center
2. Describe the nervous control of inspiration and respiratory rhythm
3. Describe the functions of the dorsal and respiratory groups of neurons
4. Describe the influences of the Pneumotaxic and Apneustic centers
5. Explain the role of Hering-Breur inflation reflex in regulation of inspiration
6. Explain the role of central chemoreceptors in regulation of respiration
7. Explain the role of peripheral chemoreceptors in regulation of respiration
8. Explain the regulation of respiration during exercise
9. Integrate the respiratory regulatory mechanisms
10. Describe the Cheyne-Stokes breathing
