LED Outdoor Area lighting with Cobra Head fixtures is very common for illuminating areas such as parking lots or streets. This Brief provides a review of the efficacy of Cobra Head Lighting fixtures available as part of the Metro LED Lighting product product portfolio. This note compares recent results from the Dept. of Energy (DOE) Lighting Facts Caliper Report (Jul-13) and selected Cobra Head Lighting Fixtures available from Metro LED Lighting.

1. Efficacy of LED Outdoor Lighting Facts Fixtures
The DOE Building Technology Office has been tracking the efficacy of
outdoor lighting since the inception of the Lighting Facts program. In
the Lighting Facts database, LED outdoor lighting comprises 18% of
the listings. In the July 2013, Calipers Snap Shot Report, LED out-
door area lighting products were compared against traditional HID
outdoor lighting products at various wattage and lumen levels. The
shaded green chart area represents the efficacy of these traditional
HID outdoor lighting fixtures. These HID fixtures wattage/luminance
ranges are compared against the universe of LED outdoor lighting
fixtures listed in the Lighting Facts database (orange dots).
LED Cobra Head Lighting Portfolio Efficacy
As shown in the above chart, the Cobra Head lighting fixtures in the
Metro LED Portfolio are of much higher efficacy . These luminaires
are also much more efficient than the vast majority of the Lighting
Facts listed products. These LED Cobra Head products are generally
57% more efficient than the required DLC minimum efficiencies.
Additionally, several of LED fixtures are 41% more efficient than the
highest performing HID outdoor lighting. Further, the Cobra Head
lighting fixtures in the Metro LED Lighting portfolio provide effective
replacements for 70W to 400 W HID luminaires, a ranged hard to
achieve for the majority of the Lighting Facts listed fixtures.
