Cares act educational funding for 2020
The stimulus bill that passed in late March, known as the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or CARES Act, earmarks $30.7 billion under an Education Stabilization Fund for states to spend on education, including $13.2 billion for the Elementary and Secondary School Education Relief Fund and $14 billion for Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Another $3 billion goes to the Governors Emergency Education Relief Fund, which governors can use for “significantly impacted” school districts or higher education institutions.
Today, we’ll talk about some of these funding options and how schools may be able to use these funds to spend on technology to enable students to learn remotely.

Engaging higher education tools via digital curation
The emergence and adoption of freely available digital curation tools has shown a public desire to locate, evaluate and organise web content into manageable, shareable collections. These tools occupy a unique niche, often overlapping with other web tools. This necessitates a clear definition of tools laying claim to this space and suggestion and direction for the use of digital curation to build student engagement. A definition is suggested, as well as a discussion on the emotional design principles and how they build sustained engagement with users.
5 stage model
This document discusses Professor Gilly Salmon's 5 stage model for productive online learning forums. The 5 stages are: 1) access and motivation, 2) online socialization, 3) information exchange, 4) knowledge construction, and 5) development. It provides examples and graphics to illustrate how each stage builds upon the previous one. The role of the e-moderator at each stage is also explained, from welcoming at stage 1 to guiding at stage 5. There’s a lot of information out there for sales and marketing professionals. In fact, as our friend Erik Devaney at Drift.com points out, a quick search of the term “sales and marketing advice” yields more than 90 million results on Google.
What’s more, there are tons of industry influencers who, on a regular basis, share their views on everything from content marketing and sales, to pricing and customer success. It’s a noisy conversation, and for many, a confusing one.
So, how do you make sense of it all?
By focusing on the sales and marketing efforts that actually produce results, not flash-in-the-pan engagement. But finding those results is a little challenging. That’s why we decided to put together our latest report with Drift.com, The State of Sales and Marketing at the 50 Fastest-Growing B2B Companies.
Using Mattermark data, we were able to identify the fifty high-growth companies in the U.S. and evaluate their marketing activities to understand which practices really moved the needle. In order to make the qualitative portion of our research more tangible, we evaluated each company on the list in light of how they approached content, customer communication, path to purchase, and pricing.
What we and the team at Drift.com discovered was surprising, to say the least.
Open Technology - The 3rd Pillar of Open Education

The Open Education movement has gained a great deal of traction in the 10 years since the groundbreaking 2007 Capetown Declaration on Open Education, due largely in part to the increasing acceptance and use of Open Educational Resources (OER), like open textbooks. Recently, a second wave of open educators have begun to emphasize the importance of a new emerging pedagogical model enabled by open education, referred to as open pedagogy.
In addition to OER and open pedagogy, a third pillar of the open education movement revolves around the importance of open technologies. The 2007 Capetown Declaration sates that, "open education is not limited to just open educational resources. It also draws upon open technologies that facilitate collaborative, flexible learning and the open sharing of teaching practices that empower educators to benefit from the best ideas of their colleagues."
In British Columbia, a small ad hoc group of educators known as the BC Open EdTech Collaborative has been quietly experimenting with different open technologies that have the potential to support open education practices, and with different models to be able to support users of open education technologies.
In this session, Clint Lalonde will talk about the connection between open education and open source software, the importance of open technologies to the open education movement, and will demonstrate some of the open education technologies that the BC Open EdTech Collaborative have been exploring.

Effective Mining Social Media Data for Understanding Students Learning Experi...

common challenges like heavy course loads, lack of social engagement, and sleep deprivation.

tweets reflecting different student challenges. This algorithm was applied to tweets from Purdue University to help
educators identify at-risk students.
Altmetrics: painting a broader picture of impact
Altmetrics aims to provide a broader view of scholarly impact by measuring online activity beyond traditional citations. This includes tracking the usage, mentions, views and sharing of different research artifacts like papers, preprints, slides and data across various online tools and environments. While still developing, altmetrics can help tell a more comprehensive story of a researcher's impact by considering things like workshop discussions, code usage, and public outreach in addition to bibliographic citations, which alone took 20 years to become an accepted measure. The goal is to map the network of how research spreads and is discussed online.

Abstract: ChatGPT, and more broadly AI Transformers, has put the cat among the pigeons over recent months. Institutions are looking at different ways to provide the best possible advice to our staff and students. There is now consistent agreement, there can potentially be very positive outcomes for both students and staff, but we first need to understand this as a community. The theme of the ACODE 88 Meeting 2 March 2023 was ‘Embracing AI for student and staff productivity’. As this workshop we had some 200 participants; Director of TEL, Managers and Educational Designers, all bringing perspectives from their own institutions, to benchmark and understand were we stand on this complex, but exciting issue. As an output from this workshop, ACODE have developed a White paper, to help provide the sector with a way forward, one developed together.

Finding and Sharing Educational Resources using Twitter, Hashtags and Storify...
This presentation reports on the use of Twitter, hashtags and Storify to connect with individuals inside and outside the university who have a shared interest in the future of libraries. The objective was to discover and share educational resources that were applicable to a class project, by engaging with experts through social media, rather than by searching for the resources directly. A related aim was to discover how even limited social contact with others could result in a more collaborative, networked approach to problem solving, in keeping with contemporary design practice. Over the 13-week course, 250 Twitter messages were collected, narrated and archived by the course Lecturer (and author), using Storify. During class discussions, students reported that the resources were useful, and they commented on the effectiveness of reaching out beyond the classroom in this way. This trial also provided insights into how such collaborations could be taken further.
