2014
• This is a social legislation aimed at ensuring
occupational safety, health and welfare of
workers at the workplace.
• The Act will apply to factories with 40 workers, if

electricity (the present condition respectively is
20 and 10)
• Discrimination in terms of gender to be removed.
(sufficient amenities and ensure safety.)
• Prosecution of factory owners to be commuted to
penalties for minor offences.
2
• Overtime from 50 hours a quarter to 100
hours.
• from 75 hours to 125 hours occupations
related to public interest with the approval of
state governments.
• Annual leave with pay for employees after
rendering service for 90 days than the
previous provision of 240 days.
• Improved facilities.

Criticism
• This reduces the number of workers who will
get the right to safer workspaces, provision of
drinking water, proper toilets, an eight-hour
work day, paid holidays and higher
remuneration for overtime.
