Alessandro Carboni conducted a research project from October 17th to November 3rd, 2011 exploring the industrial buildings in San Po Kong, Hong Kong. The project was done in collaboration with the Urban Place Unit at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During the residency, Carboni led research, workshops and lectures to study the existing conditions and local history of the neighborhood, with a particular interest in how the 1967 riots originating from plastic flower factories influenced the area's industries and urban landscape.

Learning Curves: research process 1
After two year of urban exploration in the neighborhoods around Kai Tak River, Hong Kong, I just come back. I am
expanding my research around San Po Kong/Wong Tai Sin urban area. During the residency program I will lead research,
workshops and lectures at the Department of Architecture and Fine Art, Chinese University of Hong Kong, also producing
urban action and several works about the neighborhood existing condition and local history.In order to enriching his
research, I am particularly interested in the urban transformation area since the 1967 riots started from plastic flower
factories workers. It may have influenced the neighborhood industries and its urban landscape.
Alessandro Carboni divides his efforts between different practices crossing and combining visual art, performance and
architeture. His focal interest is on body and its relation to space.
