Are we reflections of our ‘Environment’?
What we are today is the reflection of our environment we came
through. Behind every action there is a thought, that thought is part of
the intention which could be positive or negative, productive or
disruptive. Every possible thought is contributing and creating a
possible environment around us.
So to engineer or change our current state of life, we need to
understand all the contributing agents involved in it. Some of the
contributing agents of our environment could be our Traits, Values,
Skills, and Emotions.
The Perception engineering in HRD & Communication Skills workshop
conducted by Alfred School of Leadership helped me to understand life
better & to be more productive.
-Ramesh Agrahari, II Mechanical, Bharath University.

Let us water Birds!
I took a vessel kept water in it, placed it in my terrace and
waited for the birds to come and drink. The sad fact today is, there are
lot of birds dead out there with no water to drink. Likewise our
students suffer with lack of knowledge and skills, hence fail in life.
80% of them just memorise and reproduce.
Like watering birds, my friends in class need to be fed with the
knowledge of Human Resources available in plenty to be utilised.
Alfred School of Leadership helped me to understand the concept of
sharing. By sharing knowledge, we gain more than we lose.
The Perception engineering in HRD & Communication Skills is my
road to become a HRD Facilitator. A contributing human being is the
most respected human of all.
To convert a student as HRD facilitator is the objective of the
workshop. There are four levels in Perception Engineering workshop:
Personality content Study, Personality Content Challenge, Personality
Content Elevation, Facilitating Science.

“The process of assessment influenced us to wake up to the
reality & to work hard towards our potential. The workshop has
mastered to turn around any person in the right course of skills
development and knowledge sharing. It is worth investing 3 days with
Alfred School of Leadership.”
- Ashwini Kumar Rathore, II year, Mechanical, Bharath

Born to express!
08th October 2015 – Today Event manager Ms. Shalini, Ist year,
MBA and her team entered my class to note down the names of
participants for public speaking completion. I was astonished and told
myself, „stand up „Prashant!, this could be the best platform to work on
Co-curricular activity which I had been missing much for the past few
months since my school days.
12th October 2015 – Inter Department public speaking
competition, conducted by MBA department, Sponsored by Alfred
School of Leadership. Bharath University and Alfred School of
Leadership signed MOU in front of us, While we all stood up and
clapped I thought something good is happening. I was quite nervous
and felt little bit of hesitation as I was going to speak after a long gap.
Anyway after the first round I felt confident as I have adapted to my
previous environment again. I have spoken in the two rounds of the
competition, hopefully selected to the three days‟ Perception
Engineering workshop. Fingers crossed!
14th October 2015 – First day of workshop “ Perception
Engineering in HRD & Communication Skills” Like every other
participant I was very excited about what was going to happen for the
next three days. We were asked to describe, “What we have learnt in 14
years of our education”. In other words what were you doing with
yourself for the past 14 to 15 years of education?

All of us were motivated to speak, we were questioning each other, the
best part was we started our self-introspection with a lovely song sung
by one of the participant Ms. Akansha, Ist MBA. The workshop was
warming up; we have started questioning our self to find answers, to
find inspiration. I am sure this is going to be a great team to grow into
our dreams.
I found out how much potential we have as a human being
through “resource exploring mission” I saw participants‟ attitudes
change magically once they found the true potential. We enacted a play
out of the group discussion. Now, I could understand why this
workshop is named as „Perception Engineering‟. I perceive myself
precious hence motivated to be part of the magazine we are going to
launch. „Socialise a Cow‟ was the next activity, a classic one. With
assignments to do back at home we left for the day. Now am going to
try smiling at a cow.
15th October 2015, Second day started with sharing different
responses of “Socialise a Cow activity”. It was fun to know how
everybody completed their assignment and interested to report back.
Today was all about environment, categories of skills & lot of
discussion. We technically travelled through more and more of clarity. I
came to learn what I was lacking in and will surely try to develop it.
We ended our day with one more activity called “Water a bird” the idea
of sharing or incepting skills. I am going to talk to one of my friends to
finish my assignment. I have to ask him to Define Skills?
16th October 2015, Final day, dedicated to develop our public
speaking skills. We were given tips and motivated to express our self
with no fear of rejection. “We are born to express our self in this
planet, let‟s do it like leaders” We will, as I have already started
writing, I am going to volunteer in Skills Development Workshop in
future as Trainee HRD Facilitator. I have started to live my dreams.
-Prashanth Kumar Pandey, Ist year, EEE, Bharath
University.

‘Smile a cow’
I went near a grazing cow to smile at it. The sad fact is that it did not
respond to me or I could not comprehend its response. I smiled at a
cow as part of my assignment given by my facilitator.

This act is used as methodology to state the importance of social skills
one of the main resources. The importance of acknowledging others
around us will help us become a better communicator.
One of the roots of communication skills are traits: Social, Unsocial,
Antisocial. An unsocial person could only be less communicative as he
has lesser interest to communicate. Where as a social person will
always try to communicate, with clear set goals he or she will end up
with a plenty of resources in communicating. Whatever is a staple part
of our environment becomes a part of us.
It is not the expertise in language which makes a person good in
communication skills; it‟s one‟s basic traits, combination of skills and
the approach towards life.
To find out whether we lack skill, clarity, focus, or motivation we ought
to fix an appointment with a mind mechanic like my facilitator.
- N V S Anusha, 1st year, ECE, Bharath University.

Facilitator’s Corner
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four
sharpening the axe.”-Abraham Lincoln.
If you own an oil well or a coal mine in some part of the world,
how much would your attitude change towards the world? You would
be rich, you would use the well to the maximum of your benefit, your
quality of dreams would change & eventually your expectations would
change. Human potentials could be compared to the „Oil Well‟. If we
explore early our life changes, then all we have to do is to find a
medium to promote it.
What if we had that kind of resource all our lives but failed to
find it? Those who found out the „well of resources‟ in them worked
hard to take it to the market to be acknowledged as successful. Others
who were lazy to find the well of resources in their life continue to live
in agony. The student part of life is the time we try to find what we are,
our resources, how to groom them. All the energy should be channelled
to unearth the potential, to enhance the skills, to carry on the expedition.
Otherwise the whole country or a college ends up dependent or in
developing zone forever. Productivity ought to be corroborated.

To start a meaning full journey we should focus on skills:
Conceptual, Technical & Human Relations. Conceptual skill is the most
supreme of all. There are references in Human history for this claim.
Dr. Abdul Kalam emphasised on “Flying High”, “Fly above the clouds
to avoid rain”, “Dream High”. Late American President, Abraham
Lincoln use to talk about sharpening the axe before using it. All the
above quotations & the best excerpts of all greats who lived and still
living in this planet were about conceptual skills. Alfred school of
leadership offers this supreme skill using “Perception Engineering” as a
tool.
Our first level of Perception Engineering, a 21 hours interactive
module dwells mostly to bring out the hidden resources, potentials,
explore the basic science of skills & undoing the dogma of language.
We are keen to create an environment post our workshop for the
students to express themselves through writing articles in our magazine
to reinforce & share the learning. We make them our brand
ambassadors to work as a volunteer in all the sponsored events &
competitions. We travel together with our trainees for four levels of
perception engineering till he or she fascinates the science of
facilitation.
Human Resource Development training for us is like a „Test
match Cricket‟. We design, execute & certify for quality and passion.
We do not approach it like a T20 Cricket match. We do not promote
last minute slogging for campus interviews. To be more clear, our
trainees are not facilitated for Jobs as targets. We mentor them for life
our trainees are our change agents in the mission of engineering a
humane society. As we work for quality, our trainees will be given first
preference when it comes to recruitment.
Alfred school of Leadership is committed to work with all
segments of the society: Students, Parents, Teachers, Professionals, and
Politicians. We design modules according to the needs and
expectations. We use Perception engineering as a tool to engineer a
more humane society.
