• Finally released units July 19, 2013
• 26,000 requests for dev devices
 10,000 dispersed
• 600,000 devices ready to ship
What’s hot?
Big name apps moving to platform
Partner ships announced:
• ASUS
“They, like us, believe this will
revolutionize interaction on the PC
platform” – Michael Buckwald.
• HP laptops with Leap Motion
$1049.99
Secret Sauce
A new frontier of interaction
Story
• Started with co-founder David and 3D
modeling.
• Why was it HARDER to do modeling on
the computer vs. paper?
• Figured out accurate natural movement
tracking
• “Mold pixels as easily as clay”
Competition
• Kinect – Microsoft
• AirStrike – LM3LABS
 Senses up to 3 meters away
Prediction
• If they continue to innovate and
improve the mechanics it will
succeed
• Need to get rid of the “novelty”
and start focusing on utility
• Markets: entertainment, control,
biometrics, security, …?

Editor's Notes

  • #3 The Leap Motion Controller doesn't actually do any real processing within the device; instead, it shifts all of that to the PC, relaying data directly from the sensors to the softwarea bit more complicated than plugging in a mouse, requiring a software download and install.
  • #4  “The main reason [for increased funding] was to support a very dramatic ramping up in our manufacturing” – Michael Buckwald
  • #5 $1.3M seed financing round in June 2011May 2012, Leap Motion announced a $12.75M Series A funding round “first significant round of funding”Announced the new controller in 2012
  • #6 these apps let you navigate your laptop using gesture controls. The two separate apps, Touchless for Windows and Touchless for Mac, run in your notebook’s system tray and can be enabled by right-clicking the corresponding icon. Reviews preferred it for windows b/c of easy touch interface but would likely work for ipad type interface wellWe preferred Touchless for Windows simply because the Windows 8 interface is better optimized for gesture controls, but both apps were equally responsive.

  • #8 It all started when one of our founders, David, was 3D modeling. What took 10 seconds by hand often took 30 minutes with a computer. Technology was actually getting in the way of technology. Fortunately, he’s a super-smart mathematician who figured out a remarkably accurate way of tracking natural movement down to the fingertip. So now we really can mold pixels as easily as clay.
  • #10 People are even using it for secret handshakes at checkout
