Leap Motion
Leap Motion produces the Leap Motion Controller, a $79 device that uses cameras and infrared lights to track hand and finger motions within a hemispherical area about 1 meter in front of it. The company has raised $44.1 million in funding and released their product in July 2013 after several delays. Leap Motion aims to create a new way of interacting with computers by allowing natural hand motions to control applications, and has partnered with ASUS and HP to integrate their technology into laptops. For the company to succeed, they will need to improve their technology beyond a novelty and focus on providing useful applications.

- #8 It all started when one of our founders, David, was 3D modeling. What took 10 seconds by hand often took 30 minutes with a computer. Technology was actually getting in the way of technology. Fortunately, he’s a super-smart mathematician who figured out a remarkably accurate way of tracking natural movement down to the fingertip. So now we really can mold pixels as easily as clay.
