Camp Kesem is a network of free summer camps and support groups for children ages 6-16 whose parents have or have had cancer. The camps are run by college students who dedicate 10-15 hours per week to planning every aspect of the camp. The annual Camp Kesem National Leadership Summit brings together over 400 student leaders from across the country to receive training and develop leadership skills to help their local Camp Kesem chapters. Camp Kesem – Changing the Lives of Children Affected by a Parent’s Cancer
Camp Kesem (CK) is a network of free, college-student led summer camps and support
circles for children ages 6-16 whose parents have or have had cancer.
At CK, kids find a critical support circle to manage this frightening and stressful period,
while college students develop critical life and leadership skills as they plan and manage
every aspect of their campus program.

CK College Student Leadership Summit
Camp Kesem chapters are founded by the iniSaSve, commitment and entrepreneurial spirit of volunteer college students with a passion for helping
others and a desire to acquire the leadership skills creaSng Camp Kesem provides. In addiSon to demanding academic, work and social schedules,
students dedicate on average 10‐15 hours/week to Camp Kesem as they commit to a year‐long posiSon managing every aspect of their camp – and
then give one full week during their busy summers to create the Camp Kesem experience for the children of cancer paSents. To date, CK has
engaged over 3,800 student leaders, and will have another 500 by the 2013 Summit.

Camp Kesem Impact
Camp Kesem is a network of free, sleep away summer camps and social circles for kids 6‐16 whose
parent has passed away from cancer, or is being treated for cancer. Run enSrely by college student
volunteers at 41 campuses naSonwide, our programs allow kids to find a life‐long network of support
from kids “just like them” and also allow college students to develop criScal job and life skills as they
plan every aspect of camp.

very important: put aside life for a while and act like a kid. Camp is silly, emo@onal,
rejuvena@ng and a million other things that words can hardly begin to describe. In short,
CAMP IS MAGIC.”

Camp Kesem empowers a generaSon of student‐leaders at colleges across America by allowing allow college students to channel their
passion for making a difference. Each of our camps is organized and operated by a talented group of student‐leaders who develop
criScal leadership skills and a passion for long term social impact….and loyalty to those who helped them along the way!
Camp Kesem student leaders are full‐Sme undergraduate students at universiSes around the country. In addiSon to their academic
workload, these students each take different aspects of the Camp Kesem planning process in order to make Camp Kesem happen. Each
year, on every Camp Kesem campus, our student leaders:
‐ Raise at least $20,000
‐ Create, track, and manage a budget
‐ Market and publicize Camp Kesem to their local community
‐ Develop community partnerships for camper recruitment (with healthcare providers, nonprofit organizaSons, a0erschool programs
and the like)
‐ Recruit and train at least 20 counselors
Students gain invaluable experience in project management, community relaSons, markeSng, human resources, accounSng, and
fundraising. They go on to careers in healthcare, sales, markeSng, law and philanthropy, among other fields.
