Simple but Not Easy!
 Leadership is all about “Leading to a new destination”
 Lead oneself to new destination
(or)
 Lead a group or an organisation to a new destination
 Simply, it is an act to move from current state to a
better state of excellence
1. Know what differentiates you and your strengths, but
more importantly, what you are “not good at”
2. Build, Buy or Lease Capabilities to supplement what
one is “not good at”
3. Continuously evaluate through the journey and
ensure the improvements
 Open up fully and truly to become Self-aware
 This is the most difficult step, because you or your
organisation would have built a projection over time
 The projection, if not true needs to be broken
 Find things that make you different and better from
others and also things that you are not good at
 Once you acknowledge what you are NOT good at and
only when you acknowledge your weaknesses - go to
step 2
 Compare the "not good at" with best practises or with
another leader in your field or wider industry
 The best option is to build the capability over time, but
this takes time
 So you could decide to buy or lease the capability
 But use the leased capability as an accelerator to build
strengths in short-term
 One can never be a true leader until one makes the
required strengths as a part of self
 Build these strengths relentlessly and sustain them
 Just keep doing it in manageable cycles - you can never
build a city in a day
 Plan and consciously build every cycle with an effort to
minimise the weaknesses one by one
 Some weaknesses are inherent and cannot be removed
- hence the suggestion to minimise
 Take time to evaluate and focus on cycles of
improvements
This has to be part of all 3 steps
