• What: Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro (Leadership) is an extensive program designed to inform, develop,
connect, and engage committed and emerging leaders in Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
• Why: Leadership participants broaden their understanding of issues and opportunities facing the region, refine
their leadership skills, establish lasting relationships, and deepen their influence through ongoing networking
and service opportunities.
• Who: The cohort is made up of committed and emerging leaders who live and/or work in the region and
share a desire “For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.”
• When: The program features ten sessions over five months (summer, May-September). Most sessions are on
the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
• Where: Programming takes place throughout Orange, southwest Durham, and northern Chatham Counties and
in the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough.
• How: Leadership is a cohort-based learning experience that combines presentations, tours, experiential learning
activities, and facilitated dialogue.
• Topics: Sessions cover key community issues such as history and governance, the economy, education and
workforce development, economic and community development, health and human services, university
relations, safety and equity, arts, tourism, and the environment.

• Deep dive into the data and discussions with decision-makers on important community issues.
• Guided bus tour through the region and tours of significant places, such as the IFC Community House in Chapel Hill, Riverwalk
and the historic courthouse in Hillsborough, OWASA Water treatment facility in Carrboro.
• Critical experiences, such as a police patrol ride along and other community passport activities.
Developed: Refine your leadership skills
• Professional development workshops with experts such as Bell Leadership Institute (leadership development), Sharon Hill
International (business etiquette), Zemo Trevathan (communication), and Aaron Nelson (parliamentary procedures).
• Experiential learning activities, including high ropes course.
• Intention-setting at the start of the program and goal setting at the conclusion to maximize and continue your learning journey.
• Session word/concept of the day to stir reflection and deeper growth.
Connected: Establish meaningful and lasting relationships
• Programming that fosters connections with dozens of elected officials and community leaders.
• Learning teams and activities that create connections among cohort peers.
• Receptions and events with chamber members and Leadership alumni.
Engaged: Deepen your influence through ongoing networking and service opportunities.
• Regular invitations at the conclusion of each session to take action and get involved in the community.
• Opportunities to participate in Chamber networking events and programs.
• Small Miracle activity (community-based team project).

To successfully complete the program, earn a certificate, and become a Leadership Fellow,
Leadership participants must do three things:
1) Attend all sessions. Up to two excused absences permitted with completion of make-up assignments. Given the time
commitment, all applicants must verify the full support of their employers.
2) Complete the Community Passport, which is an individual checklist of community activities, such as taking public
transportation, attending a public meeting, participating in a patrol ride-along, and hosting a dinner prepared with local
ingredients.
3) Complete Small Miracles, which is a team-based project through which the cohort collectively selects an area nonprofit
organization and implements a fundraising plan to meet relevant organizational needs.

community, then apply now for Leadership 2023!
• Fee: The program fee is $1,750 (Chamber member) and $1,950 (non-member). This fee covers programming, session
materials, and meals.
• Discounts: Major Investors of the Chamber are entitled to discounts. Community Champions and Community Investors receive
50% off; Community Builders and Community Leaders receive 25% off.
• Partial Scholarships: A limited number of partial scholarships are available. To be considered for scholarship funding, you
must complete the Partial Scholarship Application Form.
Registration is an online, two-part process (should take no more than 10 minutes of your time), and is now open
(will close on Friday, April 14, 2023).
• Part 1: Enter your information: Name/org, short bio which will be shared with your cohort, how you heard of Leadership,
why you want to participate, your emergency contact, allergies/dietary restrictions, any additional relevant such as any
necessary accommodations, and then an attestation that your employer is supportive.
• Part 2: Enter payment information: The system is set-up for credit card payment or invoice. Once payment is received, you
are registered and enrolled in Leadership 2023. Partial Scholarship applicants should register and select “invoice.” If we can offer
scholarship funds and you accept, then you must remit payment for the adjusted amount before the start of the program.

  • 4. • What: Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro (Leadership) is an extensive program designed to inform, develop, connect, and engage committed and emerging leaders in Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro. • Why: Leadership participants broaden their understanding of issues and opportunities facing the region, refine their leadership skills, establish lasting relationships, and deepen their influence through ongoing networking and service opportunities. • Who: The cohort is made up of committed and emerging leaders who live and/or work in the region and share a desire “For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.” • When: The program features ten sessions over five months (summer, May-September). Most sessions are on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. • Where: Programming takes place throughout Orange, southwest Durham, and northern Chatham Counties and in the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough. • How: Leadership is a cohort-based learning experience that combines presentations, tours, experiential learning activities, and facilitated dialogue. • Topics: Sessions cover key community issues such as history and governance, the economy, education and workforce development, economic and community development, health and human services, university relations, safety and equity, arts, tourism, and the environment. Informed: Broaden your understanding of issues and opportunities facing the region • Deep dive into the data and discussions with decision-makers on important community issues. • Guided bus tour through the region and tours of significant places, such as the IFC Community House in Chapel Hill, Riverwalk and the historic courthouse in Hillsborough, OWASA Water treatment facility in Carrboro. • Critical experiences, such as a police patrol ride along and other community passport activities. Developed: Refine your leadership skills • Professional development workshops with experts such as Bell Leadership Institute (leadership development), Sharon Hill International (business etiquette), Zemo Trevathan (communication), and Aaron Nelson (parliamentary procedures). • Experiential learning activities, including high ropes course. • Intention-setting at the start of the program and goal setting at the conclusion to maximize and continue your learning journey. • Session word/concept of the day to stir reflection and deeper growth. Connected: Establish meaningful and lasting relationships • Programming that fosters connections with dozens of elected officials and community leaders. • Learning teams and activities that create connections among cohort peers. • Receptions and events with chamber members and Leadership alumni. Engaged: Deepen your influence through ongoing networking and service opportunities. • Regular invitations at the conclusion of each session to take action and get involved in the community. • Opportunities to participate in Chamber networking events and programs. • Small Miracle activity (community-based team project).   • 20. To successfully complete the program, earn a certificate, and become a Leadership Fellow, Leadership participants must do three things: 1) Attend all sessions. Up to two excused absences permitted with completion of make-up assignments. Given the time commitment, all applicants must verify the full support of their employers. 2) Complete the Community Passport, which is an individual checklist of community activities, such as taking public transportation, attending a public meeting, participating in a patrol ride-along, and hosting a dinner prepared with local ingredients. 3) Complete Small Miracles, which is a team-based project through which the cohort collectively selects an area nonprofit organization and implements a fundraising plan to meet relevant organizational needs. Requirements

If you committed to personal and professional growth, have a passion for learning, and a desire to serve our community, then apply now for Leadership 2023! • Fee: The program fee is $1,750 (Chamber member) and $1,950 (non-member). This fee covers programming, session materials, and meals. • Discounts: Major Investors of the Chamber are entitled to discounts. Community Champions and Community Investors receive 50% off; Community Builders and Community Leaders receive 25% off. • Partial Scholarships: A limited number of partial scholarships are available. To be considered for scholarship funding, you must complete the Partial Scholarship Application Form. Registration is an online, two-part process (should take no more than 10 minutes of your time), and is now open (will close on Friday, April 14, 2023). • Part 1: Enter your information: Name/org, short bio which will be shared with your cohort, how you heard of Leadership, why you want to participate, your emergency contact, allergies/dietary restrictions, any additional relevant such as any necessary accommodations, and then an attestation that your employer is supportive. • Part 2: Enter payment information: The system is set-up for credit card payment or invoice. Once payment is received, you are registered and enrolled in Leadership 2023. Partial Scholarship applicants should register and select “invoice.” If we can offer scholarship funds and you accept, then you must remit payment for the adjusted amount before the start of the program.
