This document discusses two potential methods for calibrating a laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) using an in-house flywheel standard. The first method uses a spinning wire flywheel that would provide calibration at multiple speeds up to 40 m/s with an uncertainty of 0.48%. The second method uses a spinning disk with surface irregularities that could provide higher calibration point counts and work up to 45 m/s. Either flywheel could be manufactured for around $600, allowing LDV calibration to be done in-house rather than outsourcing at a cost of $2693. The overall potential cost of implementing this LDV calibration system is estimated to be $3900.
