LaughTrack is a new website launched by Ben Webster and Nathan Sampimon that tracks and analyzes sentiment in tweets about comedy shows and performers. It uses Ruby on Rails with additional tools like CouchDB, Machinist and Formtastic. Sentiment analysis is difficult due to ambiguities from sarcasm, typos and slang, but the site aims to filter irrelevant tweets and identify only the important parts about reviews through techniques like identifying key words, emoticons and common misspellings. The code is open source on GitHub for others to contribute to improving the sentiment analysis.
