telemedicine, and disaster response divisions. In addition, Dr.
Peter Killcommons is committed to supporting a variety of
nonprofit organizations, including Laughs for the Troops.
Laughs for the Troops hosts a range of events and programs
focused on helping military service members heal emotionally
with the help of laughter. One of these programs is a traveling
comedy show called The Funniest Night in America, which is a
family-friendly event intended to lighten the burden that many
current and former service members bear.

The event is always free for service members and their families,
and the community is encouraged to purchase tickets to show
their support.
Medical research backs up the idea that laughter can have a
positive, immediate impact on the mental health and resiliency
of someone living with post-traumatic stress disorder or
traumatic brain injury. In fact, laughter is “unquestionably the
universal intervention for calming the hypervigilant right-brain,”
according to a 2003 study called “Humor modulates the
mesolimbic reward centers.” Laughter is especially useful
because it can be used to dispel fear and danger signals in the
brain and help build social relationships.
