The emergence of telemedicine allows the possibility that 75 percent of visits to
primary care doctors may be done remotely through videoconferencing. As a
vast majority of the masses are introduced to the technology of telemedicine,
challenges in regulations and policies and patient acceptance are setting the
stage for the future or telemedicine.
The online magazine business.com surveyed its readers to identify their
preferences in adopting telemedicine. The survey was done between June 2015
and August 2019. Based on the results of the survey, the majority of the
respondents prefer adopting telemedicine technology for mental health cases.
Statistics have revealed that nearly half (46.4 percent) of American adults are
likely to experience a certain type of mental illness during their lifetime.
However, only 41 percent of these people receive medical care. With
telemedicine, barriers to mental health services can be addressed while patient
access will be improved. Telemedicine will significantly reduce time travel for
physician visits while mental health patients receive medical attention within
the comforts of their homes.
