I am so good at entertaining myself No one laughs at my jokes as much as I do! Plus sometimes the clock just moves incredibly slowly when I’m at work – what else is a girl to do? - 4. Set Your Ground Rules Are you a Perez Hilton? How controversial are you willing to be? Can you handle it? How thick is your skin? Drama brings in the eyeballs, but also controversy, too. How much personal stuff are you willing to share? Have you discussed where the line is with your spouse, kids, friends, and parents? Are they all OK with it? Because, ha. Haha. HAHAHA – they will find it. They always do. Will your kids have catchy little codenames? Schnookums and Bitsy-Boodle? Because if so, I will hunt you down and hurt you. Consider self-deprecating humor; they won’t know if your really, really dumb or possibly brilliant! Will you be a foul-mouthed humor writer or clean and shiny, like me? - Introduce self. Blogging for over 5 years. I know at least one of you is thinking “I read her blog. She ain’t that funny. Ain’t funny at all.” I’ll have you know, my MOM thinks my blog is funny! Actually, no she doesn’t. She read it and said “I just don’t understand you kids. Your generation is so different from mine.” You kids? I said “Mom, I’m 45 and it’s not like I’m buying tickets to see an Elivs concert because I’m so entralled with his lewd, beguiling pelvic thrusts.” (I mean, I probably would have but Elvis was before my time.) In fact, I INVENTED social networking back in the mid-80s. All I needed was for Al Gore to invent the Internets and – voila’ …. Here we are!
- TWENTY MINUTES?? That’s all I get??? Pure torture. It’s like giving a hungry person one mini muffin. Or giving an alcoholic a child’s dose of Niquil. It’s just not enough! OK, this poor girl… see, this is why I blog. I first saw this picture about 6 years ago on a message board. I look at it now and think “This chick got drunk on spring break ONE time and did a hand-stand and it’s gone viral and now she’s probably a 5th grade teacher at a Catholic school and the boys in her class will never EVER take her seriously. And then I giggle uncontrollably and think “I should write a blog post about that shit!”
- Just got back from a trip to India. In the plane, the main navigation monitor had a flight-path film and Phuket kept coming up on the path. Phuket! Sometimes stuff just falls into my lap. I kept looking around wanting to catch the eye of some other traveler who might, like me, have the mentality of a 12 year old boy. No one did. I sighed and thought THIS is why I have a blog! They’ll understand – blog readers will get it. And if they don’t? Well… Phuket. What do I care. I got a great laugh from it. And THAT’S why I write a humor blog.
