Languages Abroad and AIESEC have teamed up to help post-secondary students acquire valuable
skills and gain workplace experience as they conclude their studies and look to begin their
careers on the global stage.
Backdrop:
Students in growing numbers are breaking the mold of traditional education to pursue
experiences and opportunities abroad. Because of ever-increasing post-secondary competition,
students are looking for a way to gain any type of advantage over their peers. In this light, many
young people are choosing to defer university and/or college (for either a semester or full aca-
demic year) to pursue unconventional opportunities overseas. A phenomenon, which is
occurring in unprecedented numbers as a means for students to not only build their personal
brand, but also to volunteer and make a difference in another part of the world (an experience
and asset that many employers consider to be of value).
One problem commonly faced by recent graduates is that most employers are seeking candidates
with workplace experience, and in turn find themselves asking the question: how can I gain
experience if nobody gives me a chance? Well, the answer, according to some experts is pursuing
opportunities abroad. As globalization and internationalization continue to become omnipresent
in our everyday lives, opportunities are becoming available for this demographic of young
thinkers who are after that increasingly important workplace experience.
A second problem being faced by recent graduates is that with the proliferation of globalization,
comes the need for multilingual employees. As international companies continue to break down
borders and operate on the global stage, the demand for candidates that speak multiple
languages is rapidly intensifying.
The two organizations then, which outwardly complement each other are teaming up to do just
that: provide university students and recent graduates with opportunities to become multi
lingual, experienced candidates within the global market. “Promoting internationalization as a
means for young people to enter the workforce in unprecedented numbers is the best way to
provide the leaders of tomorrow with the skills they need to make a meaningful impact”. What’s
more, the partnership is intended to show students that traditional education is best served when
complemented by other experiences. By delivering an innovative approach to educational op-
portunities, this partnership will allow young people to contribute to the global community in a
creative and evocative way.
About Languages Abroad:
Languages Abroad, along with its sister companies, Teenagers Abroad and The Learning Traveller
is an industry-leading language course provider, offering 19 languages and operating in over 90
locations around the world. Focusing on and promoting cultural diversity and integration through
immersive language courses and programmes, they are able to provide students with a
streamlined opportunity to become fluent in a particular language, not to mention more prepared
to interact with people from other cultures on an international level.
About AIESIC
AIESEC has positioned itself as a global platform for young people to assert themselves as the
leaders of tomorrow through myriad of cross-cultural work opportunities, including intern-
ships, volunteer programmes and paid placements within given fields and specializations. As
the world’s largest, student run non-profit organization, AIESEC is active in 126 countries and
present in 2600 universities worldwide. With global influence, AIESEC is able to match students
directly with their interests in order to meet their short-term and long-term goals.
About the Partnership:
With this partnership, students will be able to combine a standard (20 lessons per week) or
intensive (30 lessons per week) language course with a specific workplace opportunity in a field
or specialization of their choice.
Option 1: 6 or 8 weeks of language instruction supplemented with 6 or 8 weeks in the workplace
as part of an internship or volunteer programme.
Currently offered in the following countries and languages: Brazil (Portuguese), Peru (Spanish),
Mexico (Spanish), Taiwan (Chinese or Taiwanese) and Poland (Polish).
Option 2: 24 weeks of language instruction supplemented with 24 weeks in the workplace as
part of a paid placement opportunity.
Currently offered in specific specializations as follows:
Language and Teaching: Spain (Spanish) and China (Chinese or English)
Language and Marketing: China (Chinese or English), Mexico (Spanish)
Language and Information Technology: Brazil (Portuguese), Germany (German)
