Gyeongbokgung is a royal palace located in northern Seoul, South Korea. It was constructed in 1394 as the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty but was destroyed during the Japanese invasions in the late 16th century and again during the Korean War. It underwent major reconstruction in 1867. The palace features walls, gates, and main buildings including the Throne Hall, official quarters, living quarters, and the Crown Prince's Compound. After years of restoration efforts, around 40% of the original palace structures have been rebuilt as of 2009.
