Job og karriere –
hvad kan jeg blive?
Young professional, Nordic Consulting Group
Cand.polit., Kandidatår: 2011
I gymnasiet blev jeg klar over, at jeg ville arbejde med fattigdomsbe-
kæmpelse. Jeg var glad for matematik og samfundsfag, og økonomi-
studiet lå derfor lige for. Jeg har fået et solidt fundament for at analy-
sere problemstillinger i udviklingslande. Men det også vigtigt at få
jord under neglene.

virksomheder. Her får du rig lejlighed til at
bringe dine kompetencer inden for analyse og
problemløsning i spil.

hippe unge mennesker? Så læs polit.

Getting an
MSc degree
in Copehagen
A Master of Science degree in Economics offers you a wide range of
possibilities. The recent financial crisis has made it clear that society is
in need of skilled economists who can find solutions to contemporary
problems associated with national debt, unemployment, social benefits
and much more.
We expect our students to have majored in economics (not business
studies). To perform well, you require not only a strong academic back-
ground from your undergraduate studies, you also need to put in
significant effort. On the other hand, our MSc program has an open
structure and you will have a huge influence on the focus of your
master program because you have a wide range of elective courses to
choose from. You can decide upon a focus by selecting courses in areas
such as macroeconomics, behavioral economics, environmental
economics etc. Read more about our courses at www.kurser.ku.dk.

careers. You will learn to think in a structured manner
while keeping an analytic and critical approach.
To help you get settled in and understand the peculiarities
of Danes and the Danish education system, you will be
assigned a mentor, usually a student from the Department

If your university has an exchange agreement with
us, you can study Economics in Copenhagen as an
exchange student. Otherwise you are welcome as a
“guest student”. In the latter case we charge a
tuition fee. Either way, we expect you to work hard
and we encourage you to engage with your fellow
students both academically and socially.
As an exchange or guest student at the Department
of Economics, you can take many different courses
at either BSc or MSc level. However, it is always a
necessity to have a strong background in
Economics. We have courses ranging from
demography to dynamic programming, corporate
finance and many more. You can see all our offered
courses at www.kurser.ku.dk. Please note that the
selection of courses varies from spring to autumn.

Strategirapport og -folder
The SWOT analysis was selected because it describes CAS’ inter-
nal and external factors, thus enabling us to consider and analyse
these as well as to put initiatives in place to deal with these fac-
tors in the best possible way.
CAS’ strengths and CAS’ weaknesses are considered under the
heading of internal factors. Technical and financial factors affect-
ing CAS are also considered here, as well as – most importantly
of all – development opportunities for employees and managers
at CAS are discussed.
The opportunities and threats facing CAS are discussed under
external factors. This includes assessment of the organisation’s
competitors, suppliers, financial factors and social factors. The
external factors affect CAS, but CAS does not directly influence
them. Thus, the SWOT analysis provides a complete overview of
CAS’ circumstances.
The Boston matrix is a portfolio model where the buildings sector
is analysed and assessed as a business unit in terms of whether
the way we perform tasks makes a relevant contribution to
continued growth for UCPH. In the same way, the Boston matrix
shows what types of activities CAS undertakes and assesses the
potential of these activities.
stakeHolder analysis
The point of the stakeholder overview on page 13 is to help us
at CAS to consider our success criteria, our methods and how we
work with our stakeholders. The analysis is also useful in relation
to communication with stakeholders. Where can improvements
be made? And what should we retain as-is?
In the analysis phase, therefore, all stakeholders are assessed
in relation to where CAS enjoys positive, straightforward
collaboration, where common interests overlap and where
there is a shared understanding of the fact that we are working
well together on relevant matters. Consideration is also given
to where, in relation to our stakeholders, we may have a more
challenging relationship, and where perhaps we have conflicting
interests in relation to how things are done. In these situations,
CAS needs to focus particular attention on precise accurate
communication and coordination of agreements to ensure a
positive pathway for projects.
In order to be able to set the strategic direction for CAS, an
analysis was performed to identify our specific stakeholders,
specific primary tasks and development opportunities within the
department. There was broad representation of employees and
managers, as well as input from partners and users.
The following analyses were prepared:
• Stakeholder analysis
• SWOT analysis
(Strengths – Weaknesses – Opportunities – Threats)
• Boston matrix
The stakeholder analysis was selected to give CAS an overview of
the partners who are stakeholders in connection with construc-
tion at UCPH, as well as to make it possible to put measures in
place for appropriate further development of relationships with
these stakeholders.
In summary, the stakeholder analysis was
undertaken for the following reasons:
• To ensure that CAS’ purpose, deliverables, success criteria
and procedures are attractive to the key stakeholders.
• To identify resource partners.
• To identify and manage any conflicting interests and to an-
ticipate any signs of conflicts.
• To plan decision-making processes.
• To plan appropriate communication with and involvement
of stakeholders.

Strategic activities 29
Reason for the focus area:
There are multiple buildings sector tasks and activities in progress
at UCPH and in the university sector. It is important for these
activities to result in better management of the buildings sector
and to meet the objective of UCPH’s 2016 strategy for improved
internal cohesion. On the one hand, CAS wants to contribute
technical knowledge about the buildings sector, and on the
other, it wants to facilitate transparency and more effective provi-
sion of information to management.
In connection with the extensive construction activity at UCPH
in recent years, various factors will be discussed in relation to
detailed planning. CAS can contribute to this process by compil-
ing and describing the best solutions with a view to general use
and optimising operating conditions. The solutions can also be
included in a directory of best practice for future reference.
New activities and initiatives to be dealt with in collabora-
tion between FAC and the CS department:
Investment finance for construction. CAS intends to expand its
activities in relation to working with funds: to systematise knowl-
edge about funds and to serve the management in terms of
building relationships with funds.
CAS currently possesses strong technical knowledge of buildings,
and we want to be able to bring this into play even more for
the benefit of UCPH in our deliverables to FAC, the CS units and
users. The deliverables CAS provides include, for example, total
buildings expenditure and analysis of the suitability of buildings
in the short and long term.
In connection with the increased IT support discussed above, it
will also be relevant to use more of the new technology, such as
apps (smartphone applications) for UCPH’s buildings sector (op-
erations app, buildings app for students, rooms app for teaching,
etc.).
CAS wishes to raise its profile within the DK-UNI construction
group (e.g. fume cupboards in laboratories), in NUAS (the Nordic
Association of University Administrators) and in IARU (the Inter-
national Alliance of Research Universities) (e.g. the current sus-
tainable campus project as well as a stronger focus on research,
teaching and construction technologies). Inherent in this, too, is
a desire for CAS to make even greater use of, and to contribute
to the development of, international networks.
Cas wishes to
bring our
strong technical
knowledge of
buildings into play

16. University of Copenhagen (UCPH) has launched a
new five year PhD programme University of
Copenhagen Graduate Talent Programme
(UCPH-GTP) to attract highly talented Danish
and international students with a BA/BSc degree.
UCPH invites the most excellent research
environments to join.
3
The five year PhD programme starts from
September 2014. Due to Danish law, the
student must be enrolled both as a MSc
Student and as a PhD Student when he/she
starts at UCPH the 1 September, but he/she
will start at his/hers PhD-project from day one.
During the first three years of the
programme the student completes a MSc
programme, but as many optional elements
of the MSc programme as possible and the
writing of the master thesis should be
integrated in the PhD project. This gives you
and your student more time for the PhD
programme's research element.
You will be assigned as a principal supervisor
to the project, according to the requirements
for supervisors in the PhD programme at
each faculty
During the five year PhD programme, the
student will obtain a MSc degree, complete
the PhD plan in accordance with the
requirements and guidelines of both the
MSc and PhD programme.
If the student wants to discontinue the PhD
he/she can complete the MSc programme.
Graduate Talent Programme
(3+5 scheme)
• To attract talented ambitious
candidates who otherwise would be
looking for PhD positions e.g.in the
US.
• Longer affiliation with a research
group. The student is affiliated with a
research environment from the beginning
of the five year programme, which gives
more research time and conformity.
• Financial benefits for grant holders.
The student will receive PhD salary only in
the last two years of the programme.
During the first three years of the student
will receive a smaller stipend.
Why recruit a student?
• The student must be a part of a minimum
five year research project
Below are the expenses that your research
group or department has to allocate in order
to have a UCPH-GTP student (excluding
overhead, course and travelling expenses,
etc.).
• MSc tuition fee for students outside EU
• Scholarship for the first part of the
program
• PhD tuition fee
MSc tuition fees (for students from outside
the EU) cannot be covered by the university
funds. They can be paid via UCPH-GTP-
earmarked Governmental Scholarships
(“statsstipendier”), external funding or
income-generating activities.
The scholarship for the first part of the
program (3 years) can be funded by
university funds or external funding.
The PhD salary for the last two years can be
funded by the university funds or external
funding, and, to some extent, through
university’s PhD stipends (when available).
Please contact your faculty for more specific
expenses.
Requirements for having a student
How much does a student cost?
• There has to be funding through the
whole five year programme, and this has
to be documented before the programme
commence.
4
Use your best international research network to get in contact directly
with potential students, e.g. exchange or visiting students. It is not
intended that the programme will be broadly promoted as this will result
in a too large pool of general applicants. The program is extremely
attractive for international students because of the high salary. Besides
the student will be offered a service package including practical help with
social authorities intensive help for housing, introduction to Danish
culture, and language, career counselling and social events.
How to recruit a student
5
4
Financial support
throughout the programme
For the first three years, you will be paid a
stipend of total 276.000 DKK (49.900
USD/36.987 EURO).
In addition, you will have the opportunity to
work and earn an extra income at the
department where you are affiliated.
During the last two years , you will be
employed as a PhD Fellow, and your annual
income will follow the relevant collective
agreements for employed PhD students,
approx. 400,000 DKK (73,200 USD/53.600
EURO) pr. year.
Accommodation
UCPH will help you find accommodation in
Copenhagen through the University of
Copenhagen Housing Foundation.
Check this website for further information:
http://housingfoundation.ku.dk/.
Introduction to
Danish culture, and language
A few weeks before you start, you will take
part in an orientation programme to
acquaint you with other students in this
programme, the University student rights,
Danish culture and much more. The Faculty/
School in which you are enrolled, will also
provide an introduction programme specific
to your MSc and PhD programme.
Career counselling
During your PhD project you will have access
to career counselling, workshops that focus
on Danish working conditions and, the
employment market, writing CV, and other
activities.
