A 2017 ESPN article reads, “X manager Paulo Fonseca was thrilled following his team's
2-1 win over Manchester City that booked their passage to the Round of 16 in the
Champions League.”
How thrilled you ask? Well not only did the Portuguese manager call it “the most joyful
press conference of his career,” he turned up to the post match meeting with journalists
dressed as the swashbuckling fictional character Y to live up to a promise he made to his
team if they topped Napoli and Feyenoord to advance.

● X, honorary president at Real Madrid, and Y terrorised opposing defences
from when the former joined in 1958, until both players retired in 1967.
During that time they collected six league titles and conquered Europe.
● In the 1960 European Cup final, widely regarded as the greatest game of
club football ever played, Y scored four and X three as Real beat Eintracht
Frankfurt 7-3.

● This spirited squad was formed by Sadam Hanjabam when he attended

strikers in his career. But his greatest partner in crime was the Y.
● Alongside the maddening drone of vuvuzelas, the Y quickly became one of the
biggest talking points of the 2010 World Cup. Players from all over the world
were increasingly frustrated as their passes went astray and their free kicks
disappeared into Row Z.
● While most players were busy throwing their toys out of the pram and
complaining in the media, X was relaxing at his national team’s base camp as
he was one step ahead of everybody else.
● X spent months taming and mastering the Y, working tirelessly until he was
able to bring it under his spell, before the World Cup.
