The late X once did a study on 45 matches that England played at the
World Cup between 1966 to 2010, and came to numerous interesting
conclusions: a) they should wear red kits to intimidate their opponents,
b) they should play a 4-3-3, and c) a European referee would increase
their chances of winning, as “European referees are more sympathetic
to the English game and less sympathetic to ballerinas like Suarez”.
Who?
*15
This team has one of the best competitive match records against FC
Barcelona, enjoying a H2H of 4-0 against the Spanish giants.
Though fans of this team will proudly tell you of this record, they might
fail to mention the 2008 friendly where they were trounced 5-1 by
Barca, with Messi coming off the bench to net 3.
This was not Barca’s first win against them though; in 2007, Thierry
Henry (making his debut, btw) scored in the 90th minute off a rebound
from his own penalty, to win 1-0. After the match, Barcelona manager
Frank Rijkaard said “It was more than a friendly”.
Which team, who famously quote “played four, won four”.

The answer isn’t another team as you may expect, but is in fact ‘Trevor
Brooking’. For Brooking scored the winning goal in the 1980 FA Cup
Final for West Ham, much like Alan Sunderland did for Arsenal in 1979
and Ricky Villa did for Tottenham in 1981.

If I had to choose between dribbling past 5 players and scoring from 40
yards out at Anfield, and shagging Miss World, I think it would’ve been
a tough choice.
Thankfully, I’ve done both.

Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes, and at

X on Andrea Pirlo: “You see Pirlo, honestly he's a son of a bitch. One
day I left my phone on the table and he sent a text to AC Milan's vice-
president offering him my sister."
6
I used to love playing at Anfield, 90 minutes worth of insults about my
appearance, mainly from blokes who looked like the extras off Planet of
the Apes. I remember one game, a chubby little lad shouted “Oi Gary,
my Dad says you’re a wanker!”. I turned round and said “Yeah? I’ve got
8 Premier League medals, what’ve you got except diabetes? You fat
little twat”. He was in floods of tears, that’s what the rivalry is all about.
Good natured ribbing.
