It states in the bib record that the Cuckson Family papers have some zippers in the boxes. I am in Tasmania, and I am working on a project on "Zippers" for a Library Technician's course at the Polytechnic (formerly known as TAFE). I would like to know how many zippers are in the collection, what brands are written on the packets. Is it possible to provide manufacturing dates. I have 2 zips in packets labelled Rondo, and 2 Rondo zips in Embassy branded packets. Did the Cucksons package zips for any other brands. Our response: Dear Mrs Terts Thank you for your enquiry. I have had a look at the zippers listed in the holdings for the Cuckson Family Papers, which are held in the Library's Manuscript Collection at MS Acc08/75. There are five zippers in a small plastic container labelled 'Tapes and zippers (selection) from W.E. Cuckson & Son P/L'. None of the zippers are in packets. Two of them have hand written labels pinned to them. One label says 'Concealed covered first cast' and the other label says 'Made for Fletcher Jones (endless)'. There is no indication of brand or manufacture date on any of the zippers. I am unable to advise whether Cuckson's packaged zippers for any other brands. 15. Conclusion I could spend much more time on this subject. It appears that not many other people are researching zipper manufacturers in Australia at the moment which made finding relevant RSS feeds and moving images a challenge. There is a reasonable amount of printed and electronic data available on zippers in general. There are many aspects to the subject: history, culture, technology. I wanted to find information about items I have in my collection. The Cuckson papers at the National Library would be interesting to view as I have several packaged zippers made by that company.
