2. In retail display there are shelves that can be moved and there
are shelves that can’t. Some light up and some don’t.
And the ones that do, are usually hampered by cables and
connectors, or by poor quality lights – or both.

moment it’s put in place.
3. KONTAKT In retail, you need to be able to frequently refresh your product display
areas. And whether it’s by season, collection or promotion, you want to be
ready to change things quickly, easily and effectively
4. PERFECTLY LIT PRODUCTS
We’ve made Kontakt as easy as picking up a shelf and moving it.
There are no wires, no connectors and no need to get any electrical installation specialists
involved. Even better, with LED lighting already built in, you know that your products are
going to be perfectly lit wherever you move the shelf.

5. HOW DOES IT WORK?
As with most clever design, Kontakt makes it look easy.
The shelf locates into the wall channels and the integrated LED
luminaires instantly respond.
However, despite its joyful ease of use, Kontakt is the culmination
of some creative electrical engineering and lighting ingenuity.
6. Flexible
Electricity can only flow in one direction, i.e. positive to
negative. This law dictated where our shelves had to be
in relation to one another. So to create more flexibility,
we used something called a bridge rectifier, which allows
power to flow in either direction across the LEDs. This means
shelves can now be moved and merchandised in a far less
regimented way.
Elegant
Health and safety regulations state the channel which
supplies the power to the shelf lighting must be adequately
insulated. Fair enough. But we were determined to find a
better solution than bulky plastic extrusion. After consulting
a specialist supplier, we developed a powder coat based
technology that gives the perfect level of insulation and is
virtually undetectable.
Strong
We already knew the conductivity values for the channel
because we’d calculated the cross section that would carry
the current to each shelf. All we had to do was design a
bespoke extrusion for the job. We used a specialist alloy
bracket designed to allow maximum current into the
electrical cables and the luminaires. But crucially, as well as
being super conductive, the bracket’s outstanding strength
can support really heavy products.
Perfect Distribution
We calculated how many diodes we would need and
then worked out the optimum pitch (distance) between
them. The result is perfectly lit products with little or no
shadows.
Colour Rendering
The higher the Colour Rendering Index (CRI) the better.
So we maintained high levels whilst balancing the colour
temperatures of the diodes to keep products looking
exactly as they should. We chose 3000 Kelvin for warmth,
3500 Kelvin for mid tones and 4000 Kelvin for neutral or
white tones.
Overall Effect
We opted for what we consider to be the best luminaires
on the market. Linear luminaires by Lumenal are perfect
for customising with our choice of diodes, and when
doubled up, installed and angled correctly, the results are
impressive.
