This document discusses the creative choices made in filming a horror movie project. It analyzes how certain shots, lighting, music and other elements were used to fit genre conventions and set the proper mood. While most horror films do not show the killer until later, this film revealed the killer at the 2 minute mark for story purposes. Phone calls from the killer were also included as they have become a common convention, especially in the film Scream. Overall, the document examines how adhering to and challenging horror film norms impacted directorial decisions for this student project.

1. This is the first shots that we see. I feel like this
suits the conventions, as it does yes show a girl,
looking a bit vulnerable, which happens in most
horror movies. Next is the colour and the
brightness of the picture as you can see that is a
dark picture, which represents the darkness and
creepiness that is horror movies. Even the title that
we have used, as you can see that it does suit the
actual genre as if you look at it other horror credits
they tend to use things such as this, as you need to
be able to set the mood which I feel that this does

2. Here you can see that here is too different
shots from our film and you can see that we
have used the view of the killer for more
added effect as it will make the person
watching be on the edge of their seat, this is
a thing that now horror films do. As it does
help with setting the mood and the films now
do start to use this, as if it is in our sub
genre as well now.
If I use an example that does this, is
scream as they have used shots
from where their point of view as it
keep the audience waiting for them
to come out and where they are.

3. We have used many close ups on our
film, as I feel like that when doing our
research that we did find out that lots of
these films did actually use these close
up so I felt like that we needed to use
something like this as it is something
that is needed
I feel like this did match the
conventions used as this is used in
lots of these as it can be used to
either keep the pace at what it is, or it
is their to slow the pace down and
make it feel like nothing will happen
when it will.

4. One thing that I think that we challenged was that we
showed the killer at about 2 minutes, as I haven't
seen many films do this, as they leave them guessing
for a while and they make it so that they have to wait
and they are nervous to see what they look like. But
we felt like this was the moment that he should get
showed as we think that it was the right moment that
we should but him here as it fits with the story that we
have made and it fits to the ending!

becoming a convention in the sub-genre of the film
we did. As they have used many phone calls in
these, an example of this is in scream, where the
phone call is actually used quite a lot. So we felt like
that we should the phone call in there, as it was a
main convention in films like ours.
