Bible Study using book by Paul Little, "Know Why You Believe" with thought-provoking questions and colorful artful images for chapters 3 & 4. Created by Carmen Burns, who used it to teach a bible study class.
This document outlines the importance of Christ's resurrection from a Christian perspective. It discusses how Christ's resurrection was predicted, how his tomb was found empty, how he appeared and interacted with his followers after his death, and how the resurrection transformed some of Jesus' earliest doubters into believers. It argues that the resurrection validates Christianity and the Bible, and is the foundation for the existence of the Christian church today. The resurrection proves Jesus' identity as the son of God and gives believers hope of eternal life.
Part 2 of a series on the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This presentation looks at how we analyze the historical facts of the resurrection and compare how the biblical account compares to other resurrection theories.
The document examines evidence for the resurrection of Jesus by outlining 4 historical facts agreed upon by the majority of biblical scholars: 1) Jesus was buried in a tomb by Joseph of Arimathea after crucifixion. 2) On Sunday, the tomb was found empty by women followers. 3) Jesus appeared to individuals and groups on multiple occasions after death. 4) The original disciples preached the resurrection despite having little to gain and facing persecution. The document argues these facts are best explained by the resurrection of Jesus, as opposed to alternative theories. It promises to address common objections to the resurrection in a subsequent discussion.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is essential to Christianity and our salvation. His resurrection proves His deity and that His death atoned for our sins. There are many witnesses that testified to seeing the risen Jesus, including his disciples, women, angels, Paul, and over 500 people at once. We can have personal proof of the resurrection through experiencing Jesus' saving power and presence in our lives today. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared numerous times to His disciples and others over a period of 40 days, instructing them and preparing them for their mission.
This document summarizes and refutes five major theories that attempt to explain away the resurrection of Jesus Christ: the hallucination theory, the swoon theory, the myth theory, the conspiracy theory, and the idea that Jesus did not actually die on the cross. It provides arguments for why each theory fails to account for the historical facts and empirical evidence regarding the empty tomb, post-resurrection appearances, and life-changing impact of the early Christian message. The resurrection, the document concludes, has more credibility than any other well-documented event in ancient history and was a real historical event that proves Jesus' identity as the Son of God.
The Essentials of Apologetics - Why Jesus (Part 2)?Robin Schumacher
1. The document discusses the resurrection of Jesus and examines the evidence for it.
2. It outlines four key facts about Jesus' resurrection that are agreed upon by the majority of historians: that Jesus was murdered and buried, his body went missing three days later, he appeared to his disciples and others after his death, and his appearances transformed his followers.
3. It analyzes several proposed explanations for the resurrection and argues that the resurrection itself best explains the established facts about what happened after Jesus' death.
The Third Day - A Defense Of The Resurrection Part 2Robin Schumacher
This document examines evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ and refutes alternative explanations. It notes four undisputed facts about the resurrection accepted by most scholars: 1) Jesus was killed and buried, 2) His body went missing three days later, 3) He appeared to followers over 40 days, and 4) His followers' lives were transformed. It considers theories like the body was stolen or Jesus survived crucifixion, but finds they do not adequately explain the facts. The document concludes the resurrection best explains the undisputed facts and evidence, and that spiritual blindness is why some reject it despite compelling historical support.

The Essentials of Apologetics - Why Jesus (Part 1)?Robin Schumacher
This document discusses the historical evidence for Jesus' existence and the claims that he was a myth. It addresses arguments that Jesus was copied from pagan gods and evaluates the reliability of the New Testament as a historical source. The document concludes that there is strong evidence that Jesus was a real historical figure based on multiple ancient sources, and most scholars accept certain facts about his life are beyond reasonable doubt, such as that he was baptized, taught in Galilee, and was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
The document provides a history of Christianity from its beginnings to the 3rd century CE. It discusses evidence that Jesus died and was resurrected based on historical sources. It then summarizes the Apostolic era when the disciples spread Christianity and faced persecution. Finally, it discusses the post-Apostolic period when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.

Seventh Day Adventism: A power point on the history and teachings of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. See notes below. Taught by John Oakes in Jakarta 1/07/2010.
Dr. John Oakes taught a class on the commonly-held doctrine known as “Once Saved, Always Saved”, also known as Perseverance of the Saints. The class was taught in San Diego Nov. 6, 2014 at the Mission Center of Hope. The outline of the class was: I. Where did this doctrine come from? II. What proof-texts will the believer in this doctrine use? and III. What does the Bible teach on perseverance/falling away?
This document presents evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It discusses how skeptical historians and legal scholars carefully examined the evidence and became convinced of the truth of the resurrection. The religious leaders who opposed Jesus had the tomb secured with a Roman guard and seal to prevent his body from being stolen. However, when the women went to the tomb on the third day, they found it empty with the stone rolled away and the guards afraid. The resurrection proves that Jesus conquered death and that his message of salvation is true.
The Resurrection of Jesus - A Miracle in One of Three WaysRobin Schumacher
The resurrection of Jesus is considered a miracle that can be explained in one of three ways: as a biological miracle, psychological miracle, or theological miracle. The biological and psychological explanations are seen as unlikely due to issues like Jesus' clear death by crucifixion, the empty tomb, and appearances to believers and skeptics. The theological miracle explanation of a divine resurrection aligns best with the historical evidence, including the core undisputed facts accepted by scholars, eyewitness testimony that transformed lives, and the foundation this provides for Christianity. Most rational evidence-based analyses find the theological miracle option to be the best supported.
Christian Apologetics: Answering the Hard Questions: Notes and Power Pointevidenceforchristianity
Here are 3 key passages that show Jesus is fully God:
1. Jesus is called God. In Hebrews 1:8, God says to the Son, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever."
2. Jesus possesses the divine attributes. In John 1:1-3, Jesus is identified as the eternal Word who was with God in the beginning and through whom all things were created. This shows Jesus shares in God's divine nature and attributes.
3. Jesus claims full equality with God. In John 10:30, Jesus declares, "I and the Father are one." His Jewish opponents understood this as a claim to full deity, which is why they tried to stone Him for bl
The document discusses the formation of the gospel tradition regarding Jesus' death and passion narratives. It notes that the gospel tradition formed "backwards" from Jesus' resurrection to his birth. Early Christians focused on the crucifixion and resurrection. The passion narratives came to include a narrative plot and characters like Peter, Judas, Pilate, and the Roman soldier who recognized Jesus. Debate continues around Jewish and Roman involvement in Jesus' death and how Jesus may have viewed his own death. The gospels each provide distinctive perspectives on the passion, with Mark portraying Jesus' resignation and loneliness.
This document discusses arguments against and for the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It presents the stolen body theory, swoon theory, and mass hallucination theory as alternatives to resurrection. However, it argues that these fail due to lack of evidence and eyewitnesses reporting the empty tomb and seeing the risen Jesus. The document also notes that the resurrection was prophesied in the Old Testament and historical sources like Josephus record Jesus' death and the emergence of the Christian faith. In the end, the document concludes that resurrection is supported by prophecy and history, not a hoax, but a real event central to Christianity.
1) Critical events in Paul's life such as his vision of the risen Christ, his brush with death in Ephesus, and encounters with false apostles and Jewish Christians over the law, influenced the development of his theology.
2) Paul drew on both his Jewish and Hellenistic backgrounds, using the Septuagint and Greek terms while defending Jewish doctrines like resurrection.
3) His revelation of Jesus radically changed Paul from a persecutor of Christians to an apostle, calling him to preach Christ to Gentiles and defend his authority despite a later conversion.

The document provides an overview and outline of the book of Hebrews. It discusses the purpose of Hebrews, which was to encourage early Christians experiencing persecution. It examines key themes in Hebrews like the superiority of Jesus and exhortations to remain faithful. The document also explores the concept of predestination and whether believers can fall away from faith. It analyzes passages in Hebrews about falling away and God's assurances of salvation. Overall, the document summarizes the major topics and themes discussed in the book of Hebrews.
Who Is Jesus Christ for Us Today?
To say that Jesus Christ is the truth of the Christian story calls for further examination. It is one thing to assert that the New Testament describes Jesus as the Oppressed One who came to liberate the poor and the weak (Chap. 4); but it is quite another to ask, Who is Jesus Christ for us today? If twentieth-century Christians are to speak the truth for their sociohistorical situation, they cannot merely repeat the story of what Jesus did and said in Palestine, as if it were selfinterpreting for us today. Truth is more than the retelling of the biblical story. Truth is the divine happening that invades our contemporary situation, revealing the meaning of the past for the present so that we
are made new creatures for the future. It is therefore our commitment to the divine truth, as witnessed to in the biblical story, that requires us to investigate the connection between Jesus' words and deeds in firstcentury Palestine and our existence today. This is the crux of the christological issue that no Christian theology can avoid.
This is a presentation given by Dr. John Oakes in Hong Kong 1/11/2012. This document discusses several key aspects of Christianity:
1. It summarizes the two birth narratives of Jesus in Matthew and Luke and approaches to harmonizing them. It also discusses doctrines like the incarnation.
2. It analyzes different views on the resurrection of Jesus from scholars like Bultmann and Wright and what it implies about the afterlife.
3. It outlines how the Bible is viewed as a source of wisdom, moral authority, meaning/purpose, comfort, and encouragement from passages in Psalms, Genesis, and Ecclesiastes.
4. It briefly discusses the formation of the Old and New Testament canons and views on the inspiration of scripture.
The document examines evidence for the reliability of the gospels and the historicity of Jesus and his resurrection. It finds that the gospels were written early and by eyewitnesses, and are more reliable than other ancient texts. Extra-biblical sources like Josephus support Jesus' existence. Archeology confirms biblical accounts. Objections that Jesus was a lunatic, liar or merely a teacher are refuted. The resurrection is supported by the empty tomb and eyewitness accounts too consistent to be hallucinations. In conclusion, the document finds the New Testament reliable and that Jesus was the Son of God who was resurrected.

070408 David The Abandoned Grave (Psalm 16)Dale Wells
Psalm 16 discusses David taking refuge in God and finding delight in God's people. It references God assigning David's portion and making his inheritance secure. David expresses confidence that God will not abandon him to the grave. Acts 2 quotes the psalm and Peter's sermon connects it to Jesus' resurrection, saying God raised Jesus from the dead as prophesied. The documentary claims to have found Jesus' tomb but most scholars reject this claim based on historical evidence about Jewish burial practices. Polls find most Christians and even non-Christians believe in the literal resurrection of Jesus.

The document provides a summary of the history of Christianity from its founding to the 4th century CE. It discusses evidence that Jesus died and was resurrected based on historical sources. It then summarizes the Apostolic era when the disciples spread Christianity and faced persecution. Finally, it discusses the legalization of Christianity in the Roman Empire and the Council of Nicaea which addressed heresies about Jesus' nature.

1. Jesus was crucified under Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem and was unanimously claimed by the early church to have been resurrected from the dead.
2. Multiple ancient sources such as Josephus and Tacitus corroborate the crucifixion of Jesus, and the early growth of the Christian church supports the resurrection claim.
3. The empty tomb, post-mortem appearances, and eyewitness testimony further indicate that Jesus was bodily resurrected on the third day after his death, fulfilling prophecies.
The document provides evidence from biblical scripture and history to support the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It notes that Jesus prophesied his death and resurrection, and that the resurrection is the earliest creed of the Christian church dating to just years after Jesus' death. It also discusses the empty tomb, appearances of the risen Jesus to many witnesses, the explosive growth of the church following the resurrection, and analyses why alternatives like theft of the body or hallucinations cannot account for the facts. The document concludes the resurrection has self-authenticating beauty that points to its truthfulness.
1) The document discusses a Sunday school lesson about the resurrection of Jesus Christ based on the biblical account in Luke 24:1-8.
2) It explains that the resurrection guarantees that believers will be raised from the dead to eternal life, just as Jesus defeated death.
3) The resurrection is supported by direct evidence of people encountering the risen Jesus, and indirect evidence of the disciples' transformed boldness in preaching after believing he rose from the dead.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is crucially important for Christianity for three key reasons:
1) It validates Jesus' identity as the Son of God and his sacrificial death on the cross for humanity's sins. Without the resurrection, Christianity has no foundation.
2) Multiple historical evidences point to the resurrection actually occurring, including Jesus' burial in a known location, the empty tomb discovered by women before the disciples, and numerous reported appearances of the risen Jesus to individuals and groups.
3) The lives and martyrdoms of Jesus' disciples, who went from fearful men to bold proclaimers of the gospel despite facing severe persecution, can only reasonably be explained by them experiencing the risen
This document makes the case for the resurrection of Jesus based on 4 historical facts:
1) Jesus was buried in a known location by Joseph of Arimathea, making it impossible to claim he wasn't dead.
2) The tomb was found empty by women on Easter morning, the earliest testimony in the Bible, despite women's low legal status.
3) Multiple people and groups experienced appearances of Jesus alive after his death, including his brother James who was previously unbelieving.
4) The disciples were willing to die for preaching the resurrection despite having little worldly gain, as resurrection went against all Jewish beliefs at the time. These facts provide strong evidence that God raised Jesus from the dead

This document provides information about an upcoming church series on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It discusses the evidence for the resurrection in 3 points - the empty tomb, the lack of alternative explanations for what happened to Jesus' body, and the transformed lives of Jesus' disciples and early believers. It also lists some common objections to the resurrection and provides counterpoints. The document aims to convince readers of the truth of the resurrection and invites them to accept Jesus as their savior.
1) The document discusses the stages in the formation of the Gospels, beginning with the life of Jesus, followed by an oral tradition, and concluding with the written Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John between 65-100 CE.
2) It explains that the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the "Synoptic Gospels" because they include many of the same stories and sequences.
3) The document emphasizes that while each Gospel presents a particular image of Jesus, they all converge to provide a common picture of who Jesus is and convey the truth that he is the Messiah.
This document provides an overview of the Triduum - the three-day period commemorating the last days of Jesus' life. It discusses the events that occur on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil. These include Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, being crucified, and resurrecting on Easter. The document aims to deepen understanding of the historical religious events of Holy Week and overview the single liturgical service that takes place over the three holy days of the Triduum.

Introduction to the Gospels
Based on material from:
Capitol Hill Baptist Church
525 A Street, NE
Washington, DC 20002
The document discusses Jesus Christ and God's revelation through various means such as creation, prophets, and Jesus himself. It summarizes the formation of the gospels through oral tradition and their written accounts. The four gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John - provide information about Jesus' life and teachings. While each gospel has its own emphasis, they converge to provide a unified picture of who Jesus is.
This document discusses the centrality of the resurrection of Jesus Christ to the Christian worldview and faith. It provides biblical quotes emphasizing how the resurrection is the lynchpin or central element that holds Christianity together. The document also outlines some of the historical evidence for the resurrection, including the empty tomb, eyewitness testimony of Jesus' appearances, and the transformation and martyrdom of the disciples. It argues that Christianity is falsifiable based on historical testing of these resurrection facts.
The document is a sermon given at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi on March 6, 2016. It summarizes and comments on Acts 1:1-11. The sermon discusses how Jesus, after his resurrection, appeared to the apostles over 40 days, convincing them of his resurrection. He commanded them to remain in Jerusalem until receiving power from the Holy Spirit. The sermon argues the apostles needed the Holy Spirit's power and guidance to carry out Jesus' mission and spread the gospel message.
The document discusses theories about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and arguments against those theories. It describes five main theories: Christianity, hallucination, myth, conspiracy, and swoon. It then provides arguments against the swoon theory and the conspiracy theory. For the conspiracy theory, it lists six arguments against the idea that the disciples made up the story of the resurrection, including that their character argues against them conspiring, they had no motive to invent such an elaborate story, and they willingly died for their beliefs.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1

Four Possibilities
1. Did Jesus lie by saying he was God when he was not God?
Jesus could not be a great moral teacher, if on a crucial
point of his teaching – his identity – he was a deliberate liar.
2. Was he a lunatic? If we look at the life of Christ , we see no
evidence of the abnormality and imbalance common to a
deranged person.
3. Was he a Legend? The four biographies were proven -
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Archaeological evidence.
4. Jesus spoke the truth – he was God come to earth. What
credentials did Jesus bring to substantiate his claim?
Believe the miracles, so you may understand – John

Jesus Credentials: Moral Character
He was sinless:
• He was able to challenge his enemies –
John 8:46.
• The temptations of Jesus by satan –
Matthew 4.
Jesus Christ moral character coincided with his
claims.

Jesus Credentials: Perfection

be like
– The forerunners of piety in the New
Testament
– Christ showed us perfect humanity
– He showed us the fruitage of the spirit –
Galatians 5:22-24
In Jesus Christ we find the perfect personality.

– Turned water into wine.
– Fed 5000 people with five loaves of bread and two
fish.
– Brought back a grieving widow her son.
– Raised Lazarus from the dead.
– These miracles could not be denied by his enemies;
they sought to kill him and tried to stop others from

Jesus Credentials: Power (con’t)
– He made the lame walk
– Dumb speak
– Blind to see – John 9. I was blind and now I
can see - John 9:25
Jesus demonstrated the Creator’s power over
sickness and disease.
12. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Jesus Credentials: Resurrection
– Five times he predicted that he would die and
three days later he would rise from the dead, and
appear to his disciples (Matthew 16:21, 17:22-
23;Mark 8:31; 10:32-33; Luke 9:22). This claim
was easy to verify.
– The resurrection itself.
– He conquered more than all the prophets
Jesus supreme credential to authenticate his claim
to deity was his resurrection from the dead.

We know that Christ is God.
We know that Christ is God because we
can experience him in the twentieth
century. John 14:15-18; Acts 2:2-4
It is obvious that Jesus is God the Son. All
the evidence makes it clear.

The greatest favor we can do for people, is
to introduce them to Jesus Christ.

Did Christ Rise from the Dead?
Paul at Corinth states “ If Christ has not been
raised, our preaching is useless and so is your
faith “ - 1 Corinth 15:14.
16. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Jesus rose from the dead or not?
If he did, it was the most sensational event
in all of history and gives us conclusive
answers to the most profound questions of
our existence:
– Where have we come from?
– Why are we here?
– What is our future destiny?
17. Saturday, January 29, 2011
If Christ rose, God exists
If Christ rose, we know for certainty that God
exists, what he is like and that he cares for
each of us individually. The universe, then,
takes on meaning and purpose, and we can
experience the living God in contemporary
life. These and many other life-expanding
things are true if Jesus of Nazareth rose
from the dead. And 33 Pentecost would be
true. Many miracles today are true - Acts 2.
18. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Data to consider: Christian church
What are some of the pieces of data to be considered in
answering the question, “Did Christ rise from the dead?”
First, there is the fact of the Christian church.
– The history of the church can be traced back to Palestine
around AD 32.
– The book of Acts includes numerous stories relating to
whole communities stirred by Jesus Christ and his
resurrection.
– The believers were first called Christians in the city of
Antioch.
– Acts 17:6 – The message “turned the world of their time
upside down. They constantly referred to the
resurrection as the basis for their teaching, preaching,
living and – significant – dying.
19. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Data to consider: Christian day
The there is the fact of the Christian day,
Sunday is the day of worship for Christians.
– Acts 20:7 states: “On the first day of
the week we came together,” an
established pattern. The shift came
because of their desire to celebrate
the day Jesus rose from the dead.
20. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Data to consider: New Testament
There is the Christian book, the New
Testament.
– Eye witness accounts by John, Peter,
Matthew. Luke’s gospel gives evidence of
a historian with a background known to
travel with Paul and heard him preach the
resurrection (2 Timothy 4:11)

The Empty Tomb Theories
The Empty tomb – Hypothesis 1:
The earliest explanation circulated was that the
disciples stole the body.
– Matthew 28:11-15 – the chief priests and elders
stated the body was gone. These religious leaders
paid the soldiers money to say the disciples stole the
body, while they were sleep. It was so false Matthew
didn’t even refute it. This was so foreign to the
disciples character and even more obvious how would
we explain the appearances of Jesus?
22. Saturday, January 29, 2011
The Empty Tomb Theories (con’t)
The Empty tomb – Hypothesis 2:
The authorities, Jewish or Roman, moved the body.
• But why? They placed Roman guards at the tomb, what
would the Romans gain by moving the body?
• The ecclesiastical leaders were angry and tried to prevent
the spread of the message – Acts 4.
• They even arrested and beat Peter and John as an attempt
to close their mouths.
• The body was not stolen and if so they would have used it
to try and disprove Christianity.
23. Saturday, January 29, 2011
The Wrong Tomb Theory
Another popular theory, called the wrong tomb
theory, suggests the distraught women, overcome
with grief, missed their way in the dimness of the
morning.
• Did the women go to the wrong tomb? If so,
why did the high priests and enemies of faith not
go to the right tomb and produce the body?
• And it is unlikely that all of Jesus’ followers
succumb to the same mistake.
• Also, this was a private burial ground; no other
tombs were around.
24. Saturday, January 29, 2011
The Swoon Theory
The swoon theory has also been advanced to
explain the empty tomb.
This theory is that Christ did not actually die, he was mistakenly reported
to be dead but had swooned from exhaustion, pain and loss of blood.
When he was laid in the tomb, he revived. He came out of the tomb and
the disciples mistakenly thought he had risen from the dead.
How would he survive 3 days without food or water?
He was wound up in 75 lbs of grave clothes, with no strength how could
he remove the clothes, push the tomb away, overcome the Roman
guards, and walk on feet that had been pierced with spikes.
If this were true, Christ was involved in flagrant lies.
25. Saturday, January 29, 2011
The Only Possible Theory
The only theory that explains the empty tomb is
the resurrection of Jesus Christ (John 11:25).
Jesus Christ’s life, death and
resurrection assure us:
- His purpose is to rescue us
from sin
- His power will give us eternal
life
- His suffering demonstrates the
extent of his love for us.
26. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Jesus Appearances after burial
Ten distinct appearances were recorded. These occurred
from the morning of his resurrection to his ascension forty
days later. Various sightings of Jesus in different places and
by different people.
Lies nor legend cannot explain the empty tomb, nor can it
dismiss the appearances of Christ on this kind basis.
The eye-witnesses interacted with Christ and recognized him.
Were they hallucinating? All of them? No. Hallucinations are
subjective and individual. No two people have the same
experience.
Christ appeared to groups and individuals – 1 Corinthians 15.
These sightings happened for a period of 40 days and then
stopped.
27. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Persuaded against their wills
Were they persuaded against their wills? No.
• The disciples actually saw Jesus.
• Peter, was afraid the night before the crucifixion
and publicly denied Christ 3 times. And then 50
days later strong. Leader in Acts. He preached at
Pentecost in Jerusalem. His life was in danger.
• Thomas, the doubter began to worship – John
20:28. All the disciples changed from being
frightened and cowardly to be men of courage and
conviction. Only a bodily resurrection can create
this type of change.
28. Saturday, January 29, 2011
Jesus Christ is alive today
• Jesus Christ is alive today. And ready to
change those who invite him into their
lives. Taste and see that the Lord is good!
(Psalms 34:8)
• God showed his love among us;…that we
might live through him (1 John 4:9)
