2013
Together, our small team, and our epic
community of thousands of users,
have achieved a lot in 2013.
In this holiday season we wanted to
take a moment to celebrate some
of these collective successes.
In 2013,

15,558 people

Crowdfunded

$1,663,705 of loans
410

To
financially excluded U.S.
entrepreneurs looking to make a
positive social impact in our world.
Entrepreneurs
like Gerald…

Kyle…

Robert…

and Chris.
Gerald is the proud owner of Young
G’s Barbecue Sauce, based out of
Waterloo, Iowa.
During his time in Afghanistan, he
told four of his fellow soldiers that if
he made it back home, he would
start his own business using his
family’s secret recipe.
With the help of his trustee, the
Institute for Veterans and Military
Families, Gerald took out a $2,000
Kiva Zip loan…
…to purchase a new computer and
new parts and labor for his service
truck.
He has now repaid 67% of his loan
to his 32 lenders, on time.
Kyle is the entrepreneur behind
Indosole, based in San Francisco.
Indosole saves tires from landfill
sites in Indonesia, and turns them
into shoes and sandals.
To-date, they have saved over 8,000
tires, and provided jobs to over 40
Balinese artisans.
Kyle took out a $5,000 Kiva Zip loan
in 2012, paid it back on time, and
then took out a $10,000 loan in
October.
Kyle was endorsed by his trustee,
long-time Kiva lender, Justin Curzi…
…and crowdfunded by 349 lenders
from around the world.
Robert’s business, Paper Clouds
Apparel, raises funds for special
needs schools, while showcasing the
creative minds and artistic abilities of
individuals with special needs.
Robert takes artwork created by
individuals with special needs, and
transfers it to a shirt. 50% of the
profit from every shirt sold goes to
the special needs school or organization that gave him the art.
Robert’s Kiva Zip loan was endorsed
by his trustee SEED SPOT, a social
enterprise incubator located in
Phoenix.
Over the last year, SEED SPOT
have endorsed 11 Kiva Zip loans for
$50,000 with a 98% repayment rate.
For Chris, organic
farming started as
a hobby, became
a passion, and has
been an obsession
ever since.

Little Rock Urban Farming
has a new vision for agriculture in Arkansas. They are
actively engaging their community about the need to
address public health with
sustainable agriculture.

Chris’ $10,000 Kiva
Zip loan was
funded by 126
lenders, as part of
our Little Rock Kiva

March.
These 368 loans were endorsed by

270 trustees
