Kiva was founded in 2005 to provide entrepreneurs in developing countries access to capital through micro-loans. By connecting individuals in developed countries with entrepreneurs seeking small business loans in developing areas, Kiva is able to fund over 150 million businesses launched each year. Kiva's peer-to-peer lending model allows individuals to lend amounts as small as $25 to help entrepreneurs start or expand businesses, with borrowers repaying loans at an interest rate of 1% of profits going to Kiva to fund additional loans.
