Timeline and
Retrospective
A St. John’s Sweaties Production
Foreword
• The thesis of this presentation is to be a basic
understanding of the Kingdom Hearts series up to
the end of 2023, while poking some fun at the
series as a whole.
• To keep things simple (and clean), we’ll be going in
order of release rather than in chronological order
of events, both for simplicities sake, and to
somewhat preserve some of the impact some of
these moments may have within their respective
game.
• All images, characters, music and concepts from
this series are owned by Squaresoft/Square-Enix
and Disney. This was made as a laugh between
friends and is a non-profit work.
• Fan Art used in each section will be credited at the
end of their respective section.

Chronological Timeline
One sky, one destiny
Introducing our Heroes
• Kairi
• Personality: Girl
• Friends with Sora and Riku
• Riku
• Personality: Brooding Rival
• A bit of a snot in this game
• Sora
• Personality: Plucky Hero
• Ignore the Keyblade for now
Awakening
• The series begins with Sora having a
strange dream, falling from the sky
into the sea below
• He finds himself in a void full of
stained-glass pillars, the Dive to the
Heart
• As he progresses, the pillars begin to
descend into darkness and is soon
attacked by shadow-like creatures
• On the final pillar, his shadow grows
into a large monster called Darkside
• While he fights well, he falls into
darkness before reawakening on…
• Home of Kairi, Riku and Sora
• Kairi came from somewhere else, has little memory of it
• All three are very good friends
• Riku acts as a friendly rival for Sora
• Sora has a crush on Kairi
• Riku acts like a Disney Princess and “wants to find more”
• All three want to build a raft to try and find new worlds
beyond their islands
• Some Final Fantasy characters also present as friends to
the trio but are not overly significant
• Tidus (FFX)
• Wakka (FFX)
• Selphie (FFVIII)
• Also home to trees that grow Paopu fruit
• Star shaped fruit which, according to legend, tie two people
together if they share the same fruit
• Riku and Sora share one before leaving the island for the day
• The two boys later get into a competition over who gets to share
one with Kairi
Lore:
What is a
World?
• Long before the events of KH, during the “Age of Fairy Tales”, there was once a single world which was found
within the Realm of Light
• People fought over the Light within their world, causing Darkness to appear in their hearts, eventually
consuming the world
• Fragments of light remained within the hearts of children, allowing for the reconstruction of the world, only
spread within individual pieces that are completely separate from each other, waiting until true light returned.
• Each world is represented as individual levels in the game
• Rules of the Worlds:
• Worlds all have their own laws/order (physics/magic/etc.)
• Worlds are all separated by a place called the “Ocean Between”
• Worlds are traditionally cut off by barriers and don’t know about each other for the most part
• Important to keep the “world order”, basically the prime directive from Star Trek. The party changes appearance in some
worlds (courtesy of Donald’s magic) to fit in for this reason.
• “lol” said Sora. “lmao”
• When building the raft, Sora sees a
weird guy in a brown cloak near a
hidden door in the islands “secret
place”
• The door hidden in Destiny Islands
has always been there, but not one
knows how to open it
• The figure spouts some cryptic
words about darkness (get used to
this) before vanishing
This world has been connected.
Tied to the darkness … soon to be completely eclipsed.
Later that night…
• A big storm happens that night
• Concerned about the raft, Sora heads to the island to
make sure it doesn’t get destroyed
• Sora has a mom, who is never seen again
• He meets Riku on the island who starts mentions that
“the door has been opened”
• He wants to use the portal to travel off of Destiny Islands
with Sora
• Riku disappears in the dark portal, leaving Sora behind
• Small dark creatures start appearing
• Sora tries to beat them with his wooden sword, but it
does nothing
The Keyblade!
• Before he can be harmed by the dark creatures, a
mysterious weapon appears in Sora’s hand: the
Keyblade
• Only Sora can use it
• If anyone else picks it up, it warps back to him
• It can change appearance using different
keychains
• There’s more too it, but we’ll get there in
later games
• Sora finds Kairi, though she’s a bit out of it
• The door on the island opens up, and endless
expanse of darkness behind it
• Kairi is blown away, seeming to pass through Sora
before vanishing
• Sora is also blown away, and passes out as the
island is consumed by darkness
Meanwhile at:
• Goofy
• Captain of the Royal Guard
• Uses a shield in combat
• Donald Duck
• Court Magician
• Uses magic (#dosomethingdonald)
• “The King”
• Disappeared leaving a letter
behind with Pluto
• Stars are disappearing from the sky which the King
has left to investigate why
• He tasks Goofy and Donald to “find the key
bearer” and protect them
• Goofy and Donald leave on the Gummi Ship to find
them
• Chip and Dale are engineers apparently
• Jiminy Cricket is assigned as the chronicler to the
group, noting their adventure within his Journal
• The Gummi Ship: a craft made of a material
referred to as gummi blocks which allows for travel
between worlds through the Ocean Between
• Gummi blocks are made of the same material as the
barriers between worlds, allowing traversal
• When barriers between worlds are destroyed, they
appear as meteor showers
Next stop
• Sora awakens in Traverse Town
• A place which takes in people who have lost their
worlds
• Meets up with some Final Fantasy characters
who give him some important information about
the Keyblade and what happened to Sora’s world
• Squall (FFVIII, called Leon here for some reason)
• Aerith (FFVII)
• Yuffie (FFVII)
• Cid (FFVII)
• Moogles (synthesize items)
• Sora meets and teams up with Donald and Goofy
Waking up
• The enemies that appeared on Destiny Island, and are found throughout
all worlds
• People have hearts, which is a composition of memories, will, goals and
ambitions and allows a person to have emotions
• Each world also has a heart which keeps it in the Realm of Light
• Hearts have both Light and Darkness
• Light = Good, Darkness = Bad
• If a heart is overcome by darkness, it becomes a Heartless, leaving the
body and soul behind
• By instinct Heartless look for more light and convert hearts to darkness
• Major goal is to look for the heart of a world and have it “fall into the
Realm of Darkness”
• Can only be prevented by locking the heart of a world with the Keyblade
• Destroying a Heartless with the Keyblade frees the trapped heart within
• While Heartless can be killed through magic or weaponry, only the
Keyblade can free hearts from the Heartless and permanently destroy
them
Lore:
Types of Heartless
• Heartless comes in two varieties
• Emblem Heartless (top): Heartless with
logos are manufactured.
• Manufactured through experimentation (in
particular made by a man who goes by the
name of Ansem)
• If hearts are stolen by a Heartless, they
become an Emblem Heartless
• If an Emblem Heartless is destroyed, it
releases the stolen heart which leaves
• Pureblood Heartless (bottom): natural
Heartless which form when people’s hearts
are consumed by darkness
• When destroyed, they vanish and return to
the realm of darkness
• Heartless can be commanded by a powerful
enough force, though it requires a strong
will
SDG Goals:
1. Sora wants to find Riku and Kairi
2. Goofy and Donald want to find the King
3. Our trinity goes between worlds to look for
their friends and seal the keyholes that lead
to the heart of each world to prevent them
from falling to darkness
Meanwhile,
at the
Legion of
Doom
Villain Goals:
• Several Disney villains led by Maleficent plan on
co-opting the heartless for their own individual
schemes that follow closely with the original
movies
• Maleficent herself mentions that her long-time
goal has been to find the “7 Princesses of Heart”
to open the way to something called Kingdom
Hearts, said to be the heart of all worlds and an
object of great power
• Riku awakens at this unknown castle and is found
by the Legion of Doom
Lore: Ansem reports I
• As they progress and defeat various villains, SDG also pick up reports
written by a man named Ansem, a beloved sage from an unknown world
who wanted to understand the darkness within people’s hearts
• He is responsible for:
• Naming Heartless
• Identifying their affinity for the hearts of both people and worlds
• Identification and confirmation of the “hearts of worlds”
• Finding Gummi blocks and discussing inter-world travel with the King
• Development of Emblem Heartless through artificial means (and
inhumane experimentation)
• His reports mention discussions with a king with a vessel made of Gummi
blocks, where he learns of the story of the Keyblade, which can bring
either salvation or destruction of worlds as well
The Journey at a Glance
• The gang go through various Disney worlds, making friends with
various Disney characters (and Cloud from FFVII), defeating members
of Maleficent’s Legion of Doom and sealing the keyhole in each world.
• After the first batch of Disney worlds, Riku shows up in Traverse Town,
and Sora gives him the info about the Keyblade, and both agree to
find Kairi
• Maleficent manipulates Riku into using more darkness and stokes
jealousy in the boy by suggesting that Sora doesn’t care about him
and Kairi anymore, replacing them with Donald and Goofy
• Some Disney characters (Alice and Jasmine) have also been kidnapped
for an unknown purpose
• The group continues through various Disney Worlds, meeting Riku a
couple of times who begins acting hostile
• Riku has found Kairi’s body, but she in a comatose state
• The group continues through the remaining Disney worlds, until they
reach the mysterious castle Riku arrived in…
You can also go to the Winnie the Pooh
world! Would you like to go to the Winnie
the Pooh world?
• SDG arrive at Hollow Bastion, but are
stopped by Riku before entering the
castle
• Riku takes the Keyblade from Sora (and
keeps it), claiming that the Keyblade
was always meant to go to him, that
Sora was simply meant to deliver it, and
that there can’t be two Keyblade
masters (heh)
• Donald and Goofy, following the
instruction left by their King,
begrudgingly leave Sora behind
• Sora proceeds with a wooden sword and
help from Beast, who is here against all
conceivable logic due to his desire to
find Belle, who was also kidnapped
• Challenging a darkness powered Riku again, claiming that
his friends are his power, Sora reclaims both the Keyblade
and his friends
• Riku leaves, meeting again with the cloaked figure from
Destiny islands who encourages him to fully submit to
darkness
• Team SDG defeats Maleficent before a weirdly-behaving
Riku reappears wielding a weapon called the Keyblade of
Heart, which has the ability to unlock a person’s heart and
release the darkness within
• He does this to Maleficent and who is fought as a
dragon before she is seemingly killed
• This Keyblade is constructed from the hearts of the
other 6 Princesses of Heart
• The next room shows 6 Princesses in glass containers, alongside the
catatonic Kairi
• Maleficent was able to gather the 7 Princesses of Heart, which should
unlock the keyhole to Kingdom Hearts, but was unable to complete it
• Riku, now completely possessed by Ansem (who was the cloaked figure
on Destiny Islands), explains the following:
• Princesses of Heart are those with absolutely no darkness in their
hearts (i.e. they cannot form a Heartless under any circumstance)
• Kairi is the final Princess of Heart
• While her body is present, Kairi’s heart left her body and entered
Sora’s during the initial attack on Destiny Islands
• After defeating Riku-Ansem, Sora
takes his dropped Keyblade of Hearts
and seeing no other option to
release Kairi’s heart from his body,
uses it on himself
• This action has the following
immediate consequences:
• Kairi’s heart is released from
his body and put back into hers
• The Keyblade of Hearts breaks,
returning the hearts of the
other Princesses of Heart
• The way to Kingdom Hearts
becomes opened, summoning
a ton of heartless who are
attracted to it
• Sora himself becomes a
heartless
• (He’s just a little guy
though)
• Ansem himself appears, but is held off by Riku, who
finally pulled his head out of his ass and gives Kairi,
Goofy and Donald time to escape
• Sora’s Heartless, which maintained some sense of self,
heads to the entrance to help his friends
• Kairi recognizes Sora and presumably based on their
close connection and her status as a Princess of Heart,
restored Sora to a human form
• He was losing his sense of self, but the restoration
happened before any real damage could be done
• The group leave Hollow Bastion and regroup at
Traverse Town
Ansem
Seeker of Darkness
Preparing for the
Finale
• After catching their breath, the group resolves
to return to Hollow Bastion, and seal the open
Keyhole
• Kairi gives Sora a good luck charm to
represent their connection
• The Hollow Bastion keyhole is sealed, though
Ansem himself has retreated to the End of the
World, a place created from the remains of
worlds taken by the Heartless
• During this second visit to Hollow Bastion, the
group also encounter an Unknown Figure in a
black cloak who phases through Sora,
seemingly observing his memories of the
journey so far
• While familiar with Ansem, and remarking on
Sora’s similarity to him, he proceeds to briefly
battle the group before retreating – remarking
that he is merely a shell
Impressive.
This will be
enjoyable.
Lore: Ansem reports II
• Documentation found at Hollow Bastion, alongside reports gathered through optional
encounters reveal additional aspects of Ansem’s research
• The appearance of Heartless cause collapse of the Gummi Barriers between worlds
• Worlds have some period between the arrival of Heartless, finding the door to a world’s
heart and stealing the heart of a world
• There is a relationship between the Princesses of Heart and the Keyblade
• He selected a girl who might qualify for such a title and sent her off into the Ocean Between
to land on another world
• He was once a person, but willingly became a Heartless. Unlike others, he retained his
memories and kept form of a person
• To enter the Realm of Darkness, he believed he had to go beyond the door to Kingdom
Hearts, the heart of all worlds
• Makes mention of Realms of Light, Darkness and that of In-Between
• Briefly postulates where the body goes when a Heartless is formed
• Heart and soul are not the same thing. When the heart forms a Heartless, the soul stays with
the body, and both disappear
• Considers that without the existence of the dark or light of a heart, the remains exist in-
between the two forming what he refers to as “non-existent ones”
Finale:
Seeking
Darkness
• Upon arriving at the end of the world, team SDG
speculate that since this is a “Heartless world” it
should disappear upon Ansem’s defeat, though
their fates are uncertain
• After fighting through several rounds of Heartless
they encounter a chamber containing a strange
machine, before eventually coming upon the ruins
of Destiny Islands
• Ansem appears in his true form, informing Sora
that Riku can no longer hear him or resist Ansem
• He goes on to explain that all worlds and hearts
begin and end in darkness, that all worlds are the
same, and that darkness is the true essence of the
heart
• Sora counters by saying that he believes that there
is always a light that never expires, even in the
deepest darkness
END of the World
• The fight begins, Ansem summons a
plethora of darkness alongside a strange
guardian Heartless called the Dark
Figure which appears connected to him
• Upon an initial defeat by Sora, he brings
the group down further into darkness,
fusing himself with a large heartless
known as the World of Chaos for the
final phase
• With a lot of effort, the team manage to
defeat the World of Chaos and Ansem
END of the World
• On his last legs and seeking the power of darkness,
Ansem opens the Door to Darkness, where Kingdom
Hearts, and the Realm of Darkness just beyond it, laid
• However, Kingdom Hearts was not darkness as
Ansem thought, but light. The light of Kingdom
Hearts overwhelms Ansem, killing him.
• Even with his defeat, the darkness surrounding
Kingdom Hearts threatened to overwhelm the realm
of light, and the door had to be closed.
• Sora, Donald and Goofy, together with the reformed
Riku whose body was restored on the other side of
the door work to close the Door to Darkness.
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom
Hearts
• Unfortunately, it isn’t enough as the door must be sealed from both sides to be
properly closed
• The King appears wielding the Kingdom Key D, the Keyblade representative of the
Realm of Darkness and is the counterpart to Sora’s Kingdom Key from the Realm of
Light
• The door is sealed, with SDG in the Realm of Light, and Riku and King Mickey in the
Realm of Darkness
• As the parts of the End of the World return to where they belong, Sora finds Kairi, who
is returning to Destiny Islands
• Sora promises to return, but not before finding Riku and bringing him home
• SDG are left on a lone road on a grassy field, where they find Pluto with another letter
from the King.
• The three chase after the dog, ending the events of Kingdom Hearts 1

The Key to Memory
&
TheRoadto Dawn
Part 1:
The Key to Memory
Sora’s Story
• Immediately after the events
of KH1, SDG are still searching
for Riku and the King before
being led astray by a
mysterious figure in a black
cloak; similar to the one met in
Hollow Bastion
• The group arrive at a
mysterious place called Castle
Oblivion, which serves as the
setting for the entirety of this
game.
• Shortly after entering the
castle, we meet our first of
many anime villains–
He (cryptically) explains that
Castle Oblivion has two rules:
The deeper you travel into the castle, the
more memories you’ll lose.
Everything within the castle operates on
cards.
Why cards? Because it used to be a GBA game. ->
There isn’t really much of a lore reason as far as
we know
• Cutting through his flowery language, our mystery villain
insinuates that Riku and (by extension) Mickey are
somewhere within the castle.
• With no other options, SDG (and Jiminy) head further
inside, and begin their ascent throughout the castle’s
many floors
“Walk the avenues of latent memory and you
shall meet someone dear to you.”
Say
less.

Ascending the Castle
Lore: Worlds within
Castle Oblivion
• Unlike the previous game, the worlds you visit in CoM are not real.
• The “law” of Castle Oblivion requires Sora to physically traverse his
memories of the first game to progress further into the castle
• These worlds are Sora’s memories (extracted into card form)
made manifest by Castle Oblivion
• The essentially speed through the Disney plots touched on in the
first game (just swap out the word “Heart” for “Memory” and it’s
quite similar)
• The group figure this out upon arrival to the reconstruction of
Traverse Town, where Leon and his friends don’t recognize the
group, but still know their names
• Upon clearing Traverse Town, the group arrive on the next floor,
before being accosted by another cloaked figure…
There’s even memories of
the Winnie the Pooh world!
ORGANIZATION XIII: AXEL
Attribute: Fire
Weapon: Eternal Flames
VIII
The Flurry of Dancing Flames おどる火の風
• IT’S HIM, IT’S MR. ANIME HIMSELF!!
• The internet is so horny for him that he literally
cannot die
• The first member of a group simply called “the
Organization” in CoM, which will be elaborated
on further in KH2
• Sarcastic, aloof personality, and is constantly
asking if people have “Got it memorized?”
• His motives are seemingly unclear at this point,
but get expanded upon in future installments…
● After their confrontation, he tells Sora that he is
prepared to venture further into he castle, and that
he needs to trust his memories to find the person
“most important to him”
● Sora asks if he means Riku or the King, but Axel says
that Sora needs to give it more thought
● Axel warns Sora that if he discovers his buried
memories, he may no longer be the same person he
is now
● The group forge onward, but not before showing
signs of forgetting the end of their last journey
● Notably, Jiminy’s Journal (thus the chronicled
adventures of KH1) is soon rendered completely
blank as well…
Ascending the Castle
● Continuing onward, Sora reminisces
about his promise to return Kairi’s
good luck charm to her
● However, when recalling the
memory, Kairi is seemingly replaced
by a young blonde girl instead
● As he ventures upward, Sora begins
remembering her living on the
islands alongside himself, Kairi and
Riku
● The group concludes that Sora must
be remembering new things instead
of just forgetting, putting the first
cloaked figure’s words into
perspective
● Things continue as normal until…
Ascending
the Castle
ORGANIZATION XIII: LARXENE
Attribute: Lightning
Weapon: Foudre
XII
The Savage Nymph 非情の妖姫
• She’s such a bitch, I’m in love
• The lone female member of the Organization
• Sadistic and sharp-witted, she revels in
taunting both allies and enemies alike
• Incites a fight with Sora by mocking the fact
that he can’t even remember the mysterious
blonde girls’ name
• Before Larxene left to fight Sora, it is revealed that she is
conspiring to take over the Organization, with Axel supposedly
helping her
• She tells Axel to remain quiet about the plan before vanishing,
with Axel saying she should have done the same, implying that
he is a double agent
• Before starting the fight, Larxene confirms that the blonde girl
Sora has been remembering is in Castle Oblivion
• Sora drops Kairi’s charm in the ensuing scuffle (which now
looks quite different), but can’t remember what it is; Larxene
taunting him about his forgetfulness
• Upon urging Sora to remember a promise he made to the
owner of the charm, Sora finally recalls the name of his friend:
NaminĂŠ
• Sora defeats Larxene, who flees the scene, leaving a furious
Sora behind
• Larxene reports back to Axel who mocks her for losing to Sora
• Suddenly, another Organization member arrives…
Ascending the Castle
ORGANIZATION XIII: VEXEN
Attribute: Ice
Weapon: Frozen Pride
IV
The Chilly Academic いてつく学究
• “I’m a scientist, experiments are what I do,
yes >:)”
• Essentially a (relatively) saner Hojo from
FFVII
• A loner in the Organization. Would prefer to
perform his unethical science in peace
• He chastises Larxene for letting herself lose
to Sora, and isn’t confident that Sora is worth
the effort
• He is, however, willing to test a “new subject”
that we wishes to try out; which appears to
be Riku
• As Sora continues to climb floors, he is surprised to see
none other than Riku, and asks why he is in Castle Oblivion
• Insulted, Riku asks if he was looking for someone more
important, stating that Sora had probably forgotten about
him
• Riku claims to only care about finding Naminé now, before
transforming into his Dark Mode and attacking Sora
• Upon defeat, Riku leaves, with the group wondering if Riku
has potentially fallen into darkness again, expressing
concern for the King who was with Riku when the Door to
Darkness closed
• Jiminy assures Sora that the memory altering effects of the
castle may be changing Riku’s memories too, and the group
press on, determined to find answers
Ascending
the Castle
Ascending
the Castle
• Shortly, Sora meets with Riku again, who insists on saving both Riku and Naminé and reminds him that
Kairi is waiting for them all back at Destiny Islands
• Riku scolds Sora for staying behind to take care of Kairi like he asked when closing the Door to Darkness,
and refuses to return to Destiny Islands, claiming that protecting NaminĂŠ is all that matters to him
• The two clash again, with Sora emerging victorious
• Riku once again refuses help from Sora in finding Naminé and flees
• As Sora once again begins to chase after Riku, he wonders why they can’t all be friends since they share
the same goal
• The group realizes that they have now forgotten the name of Sora’s friend remaining on Destiny Islands,
with Jiminy urging them to hurry before Sora loses his remaining memories
• Sora recalls a promise he made to protect Naminé when he was young, only just remembering it. With
no option to turn back, the group continue their trek through Castle Oblivion
Lore: Nobodies
• Back with the Organization, Axel approaches Naminé and taunts her,
saying he offers his sympathies “from the heart”
• It is revealed that both the Organization members, and Naminé herself,
are Nobodies
• This was briefly mentioned in the final Ansem report from KH1, with
Nobodies referred to as the “non-existent ones” the are in-between light
and darkness
• Nobodies are formed from the leftover body and soul of a person that
remains when a heart is taken by the Heartless
• Nobodies lack hearts entirely and supposedly don’t have any true
emotions
• Axel expresses some pity for Naminé as he states that Nobodies can
never hope to be real people
• The Organization members reconvene while Sora makes his way up the
Castle, and the figure who brought SDG to Castle Oblivion is revealed…
ORGANIZATION XIII: MARLUXIA
Attribute: Flower
Weapon: Graceful Dahlia
XI
The Graceful Assasin 優雅なる凶刃
• The Lord of Castle Oblivion and the main antagonist
for Sora in CoM
• ♪♫ I feel pretty, oh so pretty ♫♪
• Begins taunting Vexen along with Axel and
Larxene over the failure of “his” Riku
• Despite Vexen’s higher rank in the
organization, Maluxia’s been given reign
both of Castle Oblivion and NaminĂŠ by their
“Superior”, and defiance of him would be tantamount
to treason
• Axel agrees that traitors of the Organization must be
eliminated
• Vexen is given one more chance to eliminate Sora
• Marluxia asks Naminé if Sora made a promise to
her, which NaminĂŠ hesitantly confirms
Ascending the Castle
• SDG soon meet Vexen for the first time, who tells Sora that he is
responsible for their reunion with Riku
• Sora believes that Vexen is responsible for Riku’s strange state and
demands his location
• Vexen engages the trio in combat, but reveals that it was only a test
to look into Sora’s memories
• Vexen gives the group a World Card, stating that it is derived from
memories on the “other side” of his heart, before fleeing
• Axel and Marluxia recognize that Vexen is a threat if he eliminates
Sora, who is required for their plans
• Marluxia gives Axel the order to “eliminate the traitor” which Axel
responds, “No taking that back later”, implying that there is more
than one traitor to eliminate
• SDG use the new World Card and enter a place none of
them recognize; a place called Twilight Town
• Sora recalls some memories with Naminé from when
they were children
• During a meteor shower, she became frightened and
asked what they would do if one fell to the island, with
Sora promising to knock it out of the sky if it did
• Naminé then gave him her charm, and Sora promised
to become her protector
• Sora feels guilty for forgetting about her and his
promise
• The group continues to the gates of an old mansion
which they don’t recognize
• Vexen reappears asking Sora if he trusts his memories
and encourages him to listen to his heart rather than
the warped memories in his head, comparing Sora to
“his” Riku
• With Sora emerging the victor, he demands Vexen return Riku to normal, to
which Vexen retorts that it is Riku’s fate to be swallowed by darkness
• He warns Sora to stop chasing Naminé, lest he become a pawn of Marluxia
• Before Sora can get any more answers, Vexen is struck by Axel’s chakram, who
explains that he needs to eliminate Vexen before he tells Sora the truth
• Despite Vexen begging to be spared, Axel proceeds to eliminate Vexen, making
him the first of the Organization to fall
• Axel returns to meet with Marluxia and Larxene, leaving a shocked Sora behind…
A Grander Scheme
• It is soon revealed that Marluxia and Larxene are
working together as part of a coup to overthrow the
leader of the Organization
• Larxene explains that killing Vexen was a final test for
Axel to join the traitors, to prove he had the ability to
destroy an Organization member if required
• The group decide it’s time for Naminé to meet with
Sora, telling the girl to manipulate his memories to
lead him closer before vanishing with Larxene
• Axel is left to guard Naminé, but lets her know that he
won’t stop her from leaving
• A grateful Naminé leaves, with Axel hoping that Sora
continues to make things interesting
• Axel is enjoying himself enough that he begins to
laugh, much to his surprise
A Phantom
Promise
• Sora soon finds Riku again, expecting him to return to normal
with the defeat of Vexen, only to find him just as insistent on
keeping Sora from meeting NaminĂŠ
• Riku goes on to explain his promise to Naminé, which is word-
for-word identical to Sora’s earlier promise
• Sora explains that he made the same promise and the charm,
with Riku showing an identical charm after a sudden flash of
light.
• The two fight again, with Riku fleeing upon defeat and dropping
the charm, which turns into the World Card for Destiny Islands
• Goofy and Donald, concerned that something is wrong, question
if Sora is being blinded by his memories and becoming obsessed
with NaminĂŠ
• Sora, upset at the accusation, runs ahead into the memory of
Destiny Islands
A Phantom Promise
• Sora searches through the memory of Destiny Islands searching for “the
girl” the memories of his friends keep referring to
• Assuming this is Naminé, Sora tries to search for her before a storm arrives
and darkness begins to engulf the island
• Sora finds Naminé, who explains that in her loneliness, she drew Sora to
Castle Oblivion and feels guilty for deceiving him
• Sora claims that he only cares about keeping his promise to her, but a
second, transparent Naminé appears, saying that she shouldn’t be the
person he sees
• As she tells Sora to reach deep within his memories, Sora briefly recalls
Kairi, but can’t remember her name
• Sora moves on to the next floor of Castle Oblivion, encountering both Riku
and NaminĂŠ, with the two boys fighting again and Sora emerging the victor
• As he approaches the downed Riku, Sora is struck by him and gets knocked
down
• As he prepares to finish off Sora, Naminé begs Riku to stop, and another
white flash occurs and Riku collapses to the ground, completely
unresponsive…
Lore:
The Replica
Program
• Larxene appears again and reveals
that the Riku Sora has met during
his journey is in fact a Replica
• The Replica Program was an
experiment performed by Vexen in
Castle Oblivion
• The Riku Replica (Repliku) was a
copy of Riku developed by Vexen
and given fake memories by
NaminĂŠ
Malleable Memories
• Sora also learns that Naminé has the unique
ability to alter the memories of anyone
connected to Sora, including Sora himself
• This memory manipulation ability is the
reason why the group lost memories as they
went up the castle and got closer to NaminĂŠ
• The memories Sora has of Naminé on Destiny
Islands are also fake, with NaminĂŠ simply
replacing Kairi in his mind
Master Plan
• Marluxia and Larxene had Naminé place
these memories into Sora’s heart to
manipulate him and use his power as a tool
to use against the Organization as part of
their coup
• Larxene realizes that Axel let Naminé escape
and is acting as a double agent sent to
eliminate the actual traitors
• Larxene engages the group, with Sora
defending NaminĂŠ; even if the memory is
false, the promise he made is still real to him
• Donald and Goofy arrive, and the three work
together to finally defeat Larxene
• Naminé explains to the
group that she can restore
their memories if they
reach the 13th floor, but
they’ll have to deal with
Marluxia before then
• She also admits that while
Marluxia forced her to
alter their memories, part
of her wanted someone
to finally care for her
• Touched, Sora promises to
help the girl and asks her
to watch over Repliku and
stay safe
Malleable Memories
• Meanwhile, Axel confronts Marluxia,
reminding him of the order he gave
before fighting: “Eliminate the traitor”
• The two seem to be at a stalemate until
Marluxia teleports NaminĂŠ to his side,
intending to use her as a shield
• Axel states that he has no qualms with
harming NaminĂŠ, and it is at this
moment that Sora enters the room
• Axel calls Sora Marluxia’s puppet, but
the boy says that Marluxia is next in line
after defeating Axel
• While reluctant to fight Sora, Axel begins
to fight, with Sora emerging the winner
• As he fades away, Axel mentions that he
is glad he “saved him” to Sora’s
confusion
Castle Cleared
Floral Fury
• The group catches up to Marluxia, who
explains to Sora his ambition to gain the
power of the Keyblade for his own end
• He orders Naminé to erase Sora’s memory
and destroy his heart
• While this would damage Sora, Marluxia
would mold the mindless boy into his puppet
• Naminé refuses, but Sora tells her to proceed
and spare her from Marluxia: even with his
memories gone, he has Donald and Goofy to
help him once they defeat Marluxia
• Before any action can be taken, Repliku
reappears, attacks Marluxia and manages to
get NaminĂŠ away from him, intending to
honour his promise (even if it was fake)
• Marluxia summons his weapon and attacks
the group
Floral Fury
• Marluxia is seemingly defeated, but it is
revealed to be an illusion
• The real Marluxia is beyond a final door and
before entering, Sora tells Repliku to look
after NaminĂŠ while he, Donald and Goofy
face Marluxia one final time
• Inside a world of nothingness, Marluxia
appears in a fearsome final form and the two
clash
• Despite Marluxia’s power, Sora wins their
fight, and the Lord of Castle Oblivion fades
away; screaming in rage
• The three leave; Sora sealing the door
behind him
Re-chaining Memories
• After Marluxia’s defeat, Sora asks “Riku” if he’s alright, with the Replica
replying that he isn’t really Riku and only has the fake memories
provided by NaminĂŠ
• Sora insists that Repliku is his own person with his own heart and
identity, and the Replica thanks Sora for his kind words before leaving
• Naminé explains that Sora’s memories were never truly erased, simply
taken apart and rearranged
• In order to put them back, Naminé has to undo the chain of memories
she made, and put the real ones back in the correct order
• To do this, Sora and co. must slumber within specialized pods for one
year, and will not recall the events of Castle Oblivion
• Naminé asks Sora if he wants to regain his memories,
forgetting Castle Oblivion, or if he wants to keep his
current memories and forget what happened before
• Sora chooses to regain his memories, and while
saddened, NaminĂŠ accepts his decision
• To ensure the group know to thank her for her hard
work, Jiminy ensures to write “Thank Naminé” in his
journal to ensure they remember her, even when
they wake up
• Q: Why doesn’t he write down all of what happened
instead of just two words?
• A: Shut up, that’s why
• Before entering the pod, Sora promises to be friends
with her for real when he regains his memories and
that even if he forgets, she will be in his heart
• As the pod closes, Sora finally recalls Kairi after
glancing after the now restored good luck charm,
saying her name as he drifts into slumber
• A little while after entering the pod, a lone figure
enters the room…
Re-chaining
Memories
Part 2:
The Road to Dawn
Reverse/Rebirth:Riku’s Story
Facing Darkness
• Riku’s tale begins shortly after closing the Door to
Darkness in KH1
• Having fallen unconscious, Riku soon awakens in a
gray void, separated from the King
• A voice calls to him, telling him to stay asleep in
the void between light and darkness, and that he
fell asleep due to his failure to overcome darkness
• The voice offers him a chance if he wishes to
leave, and presents him with a card, telling Riku it
will lead him to the truth
• Riku takes the card, and soon finds himself in the
basement of Castle Oblivion
Facing Darkness
• Riku enters a memory of Hollow Bastion, with the voice taunting him as he makes his way through the
abandoned castle
• Both the voice and the memory of Maleficent in Hollow Bastion tell Riku that his heat is corrupted by
darkness and that he can only meet those in his memories who also served darkness (i.e. Disney Villains)
• Riku declares that he will destroy the darkness within his memories and fights Maleficent
• Victorious, Riku returns to Castle Oblivion and hears the voice again, revealing itself to be Ansem
• Ansem wants Riku to embrace darkness so that he can possess the boy again
• Before Ansem can do any real harm, a glowing ball of light appears and flies into Riku. This ball is King
Mickey, who tells Riku he can always find light no matter how deep the darkness
Facing Darkness
• Riku and Ansem briefly fight before Ansem
gives Riku a World Card, telling Riku that if he
keeps looking through his memories, he will
eventually fall to darkness
• Riku, determined to overcome Ansem, states
that he’ll work through his memories without
falling to darkness
• Ansem also empowers the darkness in Riku’s
heart before vanishing, telling him that while
he can’t force Riku to use it, it will remain to
tempt him
• Though the presence of darkness is
overwhelming, Mickey uses his power to
project into the room and tells Riku he is
working to reach to boy and reunite in person
• Riku continues upward through Castle Oblivion
unaware that others may soon be aware of his
presence…

• Also, the most boring
• A strong chin for a strong boy
• Likely the physically strongest member of
Organization XIII, and doesn’t talk unless
needed
• Will absolutely, 100% beat the shit out of a
child
• Doesn’t trust other members of the
Organization, with the exception of…
ORGANIZATION XIII: ZEXION
Attribute: Illusion
Weapon: Book of
Retribution
VI
The Cloaked Schemer 影歩む策士
• “He’s got a cloak! You idiots, we all have
cloaks!!!”
• The brains of the basement duo, and an
eloquent speaker, especially compared to his
partner
• Calm, collected and intelligent, he prefers to
trap his enemies in illusions to wear them
down
• He’ll really make his enemies “hit the books”
(I’m sorry, please don’t go)
Rising from
Darkness
• Zexion notes the presence of someone who
possesses a similar aura to their Superior and is
soon able to confirm Riku’s presence within the
castle, identifying the boy based on his aura
(translated as smell/scent for some reason)
• Vexen arrives and concludes that Riku escaped
the Realm of Darkness using his own dark
powers and emerged in the Castle due to his
connection to Sora
• Zexion and Lexaeus are upset to know that
Marluxia has already begun to enact the plan
without informing the two that Sora was within
the castle
• Vexen agrees that his plan is foolish, but takes a
special interest in Riku due to his ability to
overcome darkness
• Vexen briefly engages Riku in combat to sate his
curiosity, telling the boy that his Superior is
Ansem’s Nobody, who exists between light and
darkness
• Before fleeing, Vexen reveals that his true
purpose was to collect data from RIku
• Zexion shows concerns about Marluxia and Larxene, while Lexaeus is more
concerned with Axel’s “wild card” nature: both hoping the Vexen’s replica
will solve their issues
• As Riku continues up Castle Oblivion, he soon comes face to face with the
Riku Replica, who is acting much more antagonistic compared to the one
shown in Sora’s story
• The Replica insists that he’s better than the original as he isn’t afraid to use
darkness, though the real Riku defeats him regardless
• Vexen sends his Replica upstairs to fight Sora, while the Riku Replica
proudly insists that he’s far superior to both Sora and the real Riku before
leaving
• Ansem reappears, telling Riku that the Replica is what he should strive to
be, as he doesn’t fear darkness
• Riku attacks Ansem, but is pushed back before being given another set of
World Cards
Rising from Darkness
RE-Write
• An expanded scene from Sora’s story plays out, with Vexen
introducing his Replica to Larxene and Axel
• Larxene tells the Replica that by giving him the real Riku’s
memories with Naminé’s power, he can be just like the real
one
• The Replica isn’t pleased with this, viewing the real Riku as a
weakling who fears darkness
• However, none of the Organization members really care
about his dissent, and after a brief struggle with Larxene, the
Replica is forced to submit as a horrified NaminĂŠ looks on
• This changes his attitudes and feelings to match with what
we see in Sora’s story, including his memories of Naminé and
his oath to protect her
Rising from Darkness
• Some time later, Lexaeus returns and informs Zexion
that Vexen was killed by Axel
• While Lexaeus fears Sora, they can’t eliminate him, as
the Superior requires the boy for his own plans
• To combat Sora’s light in the event Marluxia gets total
control of him, they decide to use Riku’s darkness
• Riku soon meets Lexaeus who tries to tempt him into
using darkness, to no avail
• After a grueling duel, Lexaeus hits Riku hard enough to
knock him unconscious
• A dark aura overcomes the boy, and as he stands back
up in Dark Mode, Riku defeats Lexeaus in a single blow
• Speaking in the same dual voice as he did in Hollow
Bastion, Riku is once again possessed by Ansem
• As Lexaeus fades away, he realizes that the aura they
sensed that was similar to their Superior was Ansem,
lurking in Riku’s heart
Rising from Darkness
• Riku, trapped within his own heart, is taunted by
Ansem and is nearly overcome before Mickey is able
to save him and regain control of his body
• Riku reawakens in Castle Oblivion, and while Mickey is
gone, he feels the King connected to his heart
• Meanwhile, Zexion and Axel, who faked his death in
front of Sora, are recounting the dead Organization
members, both believing Marluxia will be the next to
fall
• The two agree that Riku is no longer needed to
destroy the traitors, and is a threat to any future plans
• Zexion, taking a Destiny Island card from Axel, goes to
confront Riku
Rising from Darkness
• As Riku ascends to the next floor, a large quake
reverberates throughout the castle
• Zexion arrives, informing Riku that Marluxia has been
destroyed by Sora and that he can reunite the two
• He warns that since Riku has the still has the darkness of
Ansem within him, Sora may fight him to fulfill his duty
of eradicating darkness
• Riku proceeds through the memory of Destiny Islands
until he meets Kairi, who fades away
• Zexion confronts Riku, reminding him that he can only
meet beings of darkness within his memories, and that
he forgot his friends when he destroyed the worlds
• They find themselves on the night of the storm, and see
the memory of Riku opening the world’s Keyhole
allowing the Heartless to invade and destroy it
Rising from Darkness
• After fighting a Darkside, Riku sees Sora at the
edge of the island
• Riku meets his friend, but Sora attacks him,
telling Riku that as a servant of darkness, he
must be destroyed
• Sora fires a beam from his Keyblade, blinding
Riku in light
• As Riku falls into the light, a vision of Kairi
appears, telling Riku that neither darkness or
light can destroy him, and that he should
embrace the powers of both
• Visions of Naminé and Kairi ask if he wants to
run, and Riku resolves to use the powers of
both light and darkness
Rising from
Darkness
• Using the power of darkness to break
through the illusion, Riku attacks “Sora”
who is revealed to be Zexion
• Zexion tries to defend himself, but Riku
forces him to flee
• An injured Zexion returns to Castle
Oblivion, turning to see Axel and “Riku”
• Zexion is initially frightened, before
realising that Axel found Repliku (after
Sora’s story) and they can use him to
defeat the real Riku
• Axel asks Repliku if he wants to become
real, telling him that by gaining more
power he can become a real person
• Repliku grabs Zexion and begins to drain
his power, with Axel looking on as Zexion
fades away
Rising from Darkness
• Back in Castle Oblivion, Riku encounters Ansem
again who says that since Riku has chosen to
embrace darkness, it will soon consume him
• Ansem puts Riku in a T-pose, until another ball of
light from the King appears and flies into Riku’s
heart, keeping Ansem at bay a little longer
• The real Mickey soon appears, with Riku releaved
to see a friendly face
• Mickey managed to escape the Realm of Darkness
using a card; a card which depicts Twilight Town
Final Preparations
• Riku appears in Twilight Town alone before soon
meeting Ansem, who tells Riku to fight him one
on one
• Riku realizes that this is not the real Ansem, as
he doesn’t have the same dark aura that Ansem
does, and this Ansem is the one who initially
guided Riku out of the void
• Ansem transforms, introducing himself as as DiZ
(Darkness in Zero)
• DiZ tells Riku that he must first find Naminé and
then make a choice
Final
Preparations
• Riku makes his way to an old mansion,
where he is confronted by his Replica
• Repliku notes that the real Riku has
changed, no longer afraid of darkness
• Repliku expresses his desire to become
a real person, and feels that he can’t be
his own person as long as the real Riku
exists
• Repliku attacks, and they battle for one
final time, with Riku coming out on top
• The Replica begins to fade away into
darkness, and as he does, wonders
what happens to a Replica when it dies
• Riku hopes that his heart will go to the
same place Riku’s would
• Repliku accepts himself for who he is,
and fades away into the darkness
Final
Preparations • Riku continues his way back into Castle Oblivion, finally meeting
NaminĂŠ and Sora, now within the pod to regain his memories
• Naminé explains to Riku why Sora is sleeping in the pod, and gives
Riku a choice whether or not he wants to do the same thing to seal
the darkness in his heart
• If he accepts, Ansem will no longer have power over him, but he will
also lose his memories up until the moment he embraced darkness
for the first time
• Riku refuses the offer, deciding to face Ansem in one final
confrontation
• Naminé is pleased that he declined the offer, and Riku reveals that
he knew that the Kairi he met in the memory Destiny Islands was
her, as the two have the same aura
I knew when I met you.
You and Kairi smell the same.
• Riku proceeds to the next floor, meeting with
Mickey and DiZ
• While Mickey doesn’t recognize DiZ, he feels like
they’ve met before
• DiZ gifts the two the same black cloaks as the
Organization, both to help conceal their identities
from the Nobodies and to protect them from
darkness, which the Nobodies can’t control
• Riku proceeds to face Ansem alone, telling Mickey
that if he loses, he wants Mickey to destroy him
• Mickey refuses, telling the boy that he knows Riku
will win, and even if he doesn’t, Mickey would try
to save him
• With his preparations made, Riku proceeds to
confront Ansem for a final time
Final

Figure) engages Riku in battle
• After a difficult fight, Riku defeats Ansem,
though he warns the boy that this is far
from over
• Ansem says that as long as darkness exists
within Riku, he can and will return, before
the Heartless explodes in a burst of
darkness
• With Ansem defeated, Riku and Mickey leave Castle Oblivion
• While Riku feels he can’t return home yet due to Ansem’s lingering
presence, Mickey reassures him, saying that due to Riku’s example,
he believes that darkness is not inherently evil and can be used for
good
• Riku calls him “Your Majesty”, but the experience has convinced
the King that he and Riku are now friends, and tells the boy to
simply call him Mickey
• The two find themselves in the grassy field where SDG were at the
start, and reach a crossroads with DiZ awaiting them
• The man asks Riku if he is choosing the road to darkness or light,
with Riku choosing the middle road instead
• DiZ asks if it is the twilight road to nightfall, with Riku simply
responding that it’s the road to dawn

The story is not over…
Summer Vacation,
Day 1
• One year after the end of CoM, we begin KH2 as a boy
named Roxas living in Twilight Town, who has been
having dreams of Sora’s previous adventure
• He hangs out with his friends Hayner, Pence and
Olette at their usual spot, as the group makes plans
on how to spend their last week of summer vacation
• The group explains to Roxas that someone has been
stealing things all over town, and the leader of the
towns unofficial “Disciplinary Committee”, Seifer
Almasy (of FFVIII fame) believes that they are to
blame
• The four soon discover that the theft even
extends to words of the stolen items, before
Roxas gets dizzy and passes out, hearing a voice
saying that “his” heart is returning and will
awaken soon
• After Roxas recovers, the group confronts Seifer
and his gang
• Fuu (FFVIII)
• Rai (FFVIII y’know)
• Vivi (FFIX)
• After a brief tussle with Seifer, Roxas sees the
thief, a strange white figure that steals Pence’s
camera, and chases after it
Summer Vacation,
Day 1
Summer
Vacation, Day 1
• Roxas pursues the creature to a nearby forest,
reaching the gates of a strange manor
• The white creature says that he has come to
retrieve Roxas, referring to him as “his liege”.
• Roxas tries to fight it off, but to no avail
• The Keyblade suddenly appears in his hand,
allowing him to destroy the thief, recovering both
the photos it stole, as well as the word itself
• With their names cleared, the three return to
their usual spot eating Sea Salt Ice Cream,
noticing that all of the stolen photos have Roxas in
them
• As Roxas heads home, he hears Sora’s voice
Restoration
at 12%
• Meanwhile in a computer room, two
figures continue to observe Roxas
• DiZ, the man who helped Riku and
Mickey in CoM, explains to another
figure in a Black Cloak that the white
creature was a lesser Nobody (a Dusk),
and a servant of Organization XIII
• Lesser Nobodies can’t tell the
difference between data and the real
thing, so it confused the photos with
Roxas himself
• DiZ notes that time is running out and
that NaminĂŠ needs to hurry and finish
restoring Sora’s memories
Summer
Vacation, Day 2
• After another dream of Sora, Roxas runs into
the black cloaked figure shown with DiZ, who
walks away without a word
• Hayner suggests the group go to the beach, and
the group take on part-time jobs to get some
munny,
• Hayner and Roxas also agree to participate in a
sports tournament, called Struggle, in two days
time, planning on splitting the prize if either of
them win
• Once gathered, Olette hands the munny pouch
to Roxas before the black-cloaked figure
appears, whispers something to Roxas, and
steals the money
• Roxas recalls that the figure, who none of them
saw, asked him “Can you feel Sora?” before
vanishing
Restoration
at 28%
• Back in the computer room, DiZ reveals to
the robed figure (who has the munny in
hand), that the Twilight Town Roxas is inside
is a simulation that DiZ created
• DiZ had the robed man steal the munny he
did not design a beach in the digital world,
fearing that it would give the Organization
another point to access the simulated world
• DiZ tells the man to delete the digital munny
pouch, saying that objects from the virtual
world should not be used in the real world
Think about it DiZ, infinite munny!
Diamond hands to Kingdom Hearts itself!
Summer
Vacation,
Day 3
• Roxas dreams of Naminé watching over Sora in
his pod, and while asking who she is, he gets
no answer
• When running into Olette and Pence in town,
they and the rest of the world freeze in place
before NaminĂŠ appears
• She greets Roxas, saying she wanted to meet
him at least once, but before he can get any
answers, she vanishes
• Roxas wonders if she went to the mansion, and
tries to head there before being chased out by
some Nobodies
• While luring them into a fight with Seifer and
his gang, Roxas is unable to do anything
• Naminé calls to Roxas, telling him to use the
Keyblade as a bright flash appears
Restoration
at 48%
• As Sora did in the last game, Roxas finds himself in a
Dive to the Heart
• Along one of the Stations of Awakening, Roxas
encounters a giant Nobody called the Twilight Thorn
• While he manages to defeat it, darkness begins to
consume the area
• Fortunately, Naminé is able to drag Roxas out,
introducing herself to the boy
• She asks Roxas if he remembers his “true name” but
the cloaked figure seen with DiZ stops her, saying that
Roxas shouldn’t learn the truth
• Roxas is forcibly sent back to the virtual Twilight Town
• DiZ confirms that the Naminé the figure stopped was
the real one, and while upset, states that as long as
Naminé restores Sora’s memory, is doesn’t matter what
happens to Roxas
Summer
Vacation,
Day 4
• Roxas, his friends and Seifer’s gang participate in a local Struggle tournament, with the
final match set between Roxas and, unexpectedly, Vivi
• After defeating Vivi, the world freezes again, with Vivi revealing he was a Nobody
• After defeating the Nobodies with the Keyblade, more appear and another black-
cloaked figure appears
• The man lowers his hood, revealing himself as Axel
• Axel speaks as though he knows Roxas, and remarks that the lesser Nobodies, called
Dusks, seemingly won’t be able to do the job
• Axel says that he’ll explain everything once he takes Roxas, but the world distorts again
• Frustrated, Roxas throws the Keyblade (though it returns to his hand), and before
engaging, Axel refers to Roxas as “No. XIII” implying he had a role in the Organization
• DiZ soon interrupts, and after a brief struggle, the world returns to normal, with Roxas
declared the champion after another brief match
Summer Vacation, Day 4
• Roxas receives a trophy with four orbs attached, splitting them off and
giving one to each of his friends when they meet on top of the clock
tower
• The group holds them against the setting sun, and as Roxas reaches for
some ice cream, he slips and falls from the tower, calling out for
NaminĂŠ
• Meanwhile, on Destiny Islands, Kairi reminisces about her
childhood, and while she can recall Riku, she has forgotten about
Sora, vowing not to return to their island until he can remember his
name
• She hears Roxas call for Naminé, telling the boy that her name is
Kairi
• Roxas notes that she is the one “he” likes, telling her his name
• Kairi asks for the name of her forgotten friend, when she hears
Sora’s voice chastising her for forgetting his name, simply giving a
hint that it “starts with an S”
• Kairi heads to the beach, sending away a message in a bottle telling
the boy that she will find him someday, finally recalling Sora’s name
Restoration at 79%
• The hooded figure returns to the computer room with Roxa’s
blue trophy orb in tow
• Placing it in the munny pouch, DiZ explains that meeting
Naminé has connected Roxas and Kairi, which sped up Sora’s
recovery
• DiZ elaborates that Naminé was created differently from other
Nobodies, and as we know from CoM, has the power to
manipulate the memories of Sora and those he knows
• The figure asks whose Nobody she is, with DiZ refusing, asking
for his companion’s name instead
• The cloaked man removes his hood and introduces himself as
Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness from KH1, seemingly alive and
well despite his earlier defeats
• DiZ laughs, saying that it is an honour to meet him
Where Nothing Gathers
• In a meeting with the Organization, Axel has just
been given the order to eliminate Roxas
• Axel protests, but the group’s No. III reminds him that
he has no problem with eliminating traitors (as
several of the room’s empty thrones can attest to)
• Axel insists that Roxas didn’t betray them out of his
own free will, with No. III threatening him further,
explaining that there are consequences for
disobeying
• The group's leader, No. I (aka the Superior mentioned
in CoM) wordlessly threatens Axel with the possibility
of turning into a Dusk for failure
• Axel reluctantly complies, leaving for his mission
Summer
Vacation,
Day 5
• Roxas reawakens the next day, and he and his
friends try to investigate the “Seven Wonders of
Twilight Town”
• The majority of the leads seem to be false, except
for a mysterious train that appears, and a seventh
one at the mansion in the woods
• Roxas heads in alone, after seeing Naminé there,
and finds the girl’s room, covered in drawings of
Sora’s adventures
• She informs Roxas that he and Axel used to be best
friends, and explains how she is putting Sora’s
memories back together
• She also tells Roxas that he holds half of Sora’s
memories, and he needs them to awaken, gently
telling the boy that he “wasn’t supposed to exist”
• Roxas leaves, returning to the usual spot with his
friends…
Restoration

are returning, with Ansem confirming that
the same phenomenon appears to be
happening to all connected to the boy
• Ansem asks DiZ what his motivation is, with
DiZ replying that he is seeking revenge
• DiZ also tells Ansem that once Naminé has
served her purpose, she is to be disposed
of
Dreams of the Past
• Roxas has dreams about the end of KH1 and the start of CoM,
fading away as SDG enters Castle Oblivion
• Roxas continues to dream of a strange beach, wearing one of

someone who looks a lot like Roxas
• When he asks the man for his name the dream stops,
continuing onto another scene in a rainy city
• Roxas, wielding two Keyblades (Oathkeeper and Oblivion),
fights several Neoshadow Heartless
• He looks up to see an older, blindfolded Riku on a skyscraper
• The two fight, with Roxas seemingly the victor; the dream
fading as Riku asks why he has the Keyblade
Summer Vacation,
Day 5
• Roxas wakes up the next day, and when returning
to his friends, find that they don’t notice him; his
hand even phasing through as they run by
• He is soon confronted by Axel and some Dusks. He
pretends to remember Axel, but after failing to
remember their Superior’s name, Axel reluctantly
sends the Dusks after him
• The world, including Axel, soon freezes, and DiZ
appears telling Roxas to go to the mansion
• After Roxas leaves, Axel gets free and accepts that
the Roxas he knew is gone; the Flurry of Dancing
Flames now committed to his mission
Summer Vacation,
Day 6
• Roxas heads to the mansion, returning to Naminé’s
drawing room
• He begins to regain more memories, seeing himself in the
rainy city again, leaving the Organization behind
• Axel wanted him to stay, but Roxas wanted to know why
the Keyblade chose him
• Naminé explains that Organization XIII is comprised of
incomplete people trying to use the power of Kingdom
Hearts to maek them whole
• Before Roxas can inquire further, she vanishes and DiZ
appears, telling Roxas that he is a Nobody
• Ansem returns telling DiZ that they need to leave, but
NaminĂŠ reappears, telling Roxas that Nobodies are half a
person, and that he won’t disappear, but will be made
whole
• Before being taken away by DiZ, Naminé promises Roxas
that the two will meet again, even if they don’t recognize
each other
Roxas! We will meet again.
Summer
Vacation, Day 6
• Roxas finds the digital version of the DiZ’s computer room in
the basement, and more memories come flooding back
• He recalls sitting in Organization XIII’s meeting room, along
with all of the members killed at Castle Oblivion present as
well
• He remembers more of his escape and battle with Riku,
revealing that Riku got a second wind and somehow
defeated Roxas
• The last thing Roxas recalls is DiZ and Ansem putting him in
the simulated Twilight Town with a fake personality while
NaminĂŠ worked on restoring Sora
• While Ansem felt guilty about this, DiZ acted indifferent,
saying that he is merely a Nobody and it is his fate
• Roxas smashes the computer in a rage, proceeding to the
next room
Summer Vacation,
Day 6
• In the next room, Roxas
encounters Axel
• While he reveals that he has
recovered his memories for real,
Axel says that it’s too late
• Roxas summons Oathkeeper and
Oblivion, and the two face off
• Roxas defeats his friend and
recalls that the reason Axel told
him not to leave or he would be
destroyed
• Axel fades away, promising to
see his friend in the next life
Summer Vacation,
Day 6
• In the next hallway Roxas sees pods containing Donald
and Goofy
• He soon finds DiZ standing in front of a giant pod
• DiZ explains that he needs to restore Sora’s memories as
he requires an inhabitant of the Realm of Light to
destroy Organization XIII for him
• DiZ calls himself a servant of the world, and when Roxas
tries to attack him, reveals that he is a digital projection
of the real thing
• Roxas expresses his hatred for DiZ, who tells him that he
should share that hatred with Sora, who is too nice
• Roxas reaffirms that his heart belongs to him, but DiZ
vanishes
• The large pod opens, revealing Sora
• As he is reabsorbed into Sora’s heart, Roxas accepts that
his summer vacation is over…
Restoration
Complete!
• Sora reawakens, having grown older and taller during his slumber
• After reuniting with Donald, Goofy and Jiminy, the group recall what happened
previously; the defeat of Ansem, the return of Kairi to Destiny Islands and their
continued search for Riku and King Mickey
• As Naminé stated in CoM, the group has entirely forgotten about the events in Castle
Oblivion, including the girl herself; the only trace left being a note in Jiminy’s Journal
• The group ventures out to find out what strange new place they’ve ended up in, and
resume their goal of finding Riku and the King
• The group, in the real Twilight Town, meet Hayner, Pence
and Olette who tell him that they saw a hooded figure
matching the King’s description heading towards the train
station
• SDG head to the station, only to be ambushed by a group
of Dusks
• They are soon saved by King Mickey, who defeats the
creatures, give Sora the munny pouch that Ansem took
from Roxas in the data world, and instructs them to board
the train to the Mysterious Tower
• SDG bid farewell to Hayner’s group and although Sora has
just met the three, he feels like he has known them for a
long time and sheds a tear before boarding the train…
• Meanwhile, it is soon revealed that Axel
survived his battle with Roxas, but he was
apprehended by Ansem soon afterwards
• Naminé, who was also captured, learns that
DiZ wants the two of them eliminated due to
their nature as Nobodies, but Ansem decides
to let them live
• He explains that the two helped him at Castle
Oblivion, and while they aren’t sure what he
means, they take their leave using a Corridor
of Darkness
• Once the train stops, SDG are met by Pete, a
troublemaker from Donald and Goofy’s
home who was banished years ago
• Pete unwittingly explains that he is a servant
of Maleficent, and is currently seeking to
turn the owner of the tower, Mickey’s
former Master Yen Sid into a Heartless
• Sora reveals that they were the ones who
defeated Maleficent
• The group scales the tower to meet the old
master, leaving Pete in the dust
Oh Maleficent? She’s toast! Gonna cry?
• The group ascend the tower,
defeating Heartless as they go
• Eventually, the group finally
meet Yen Sid himself who asks
if King Mickey had given them
their most recent instructions,
explaining that they have
another long journey ahead of
them
• Sora explains that he’s trying to
simply find Riku and go home
• Yen Sid cryptically says that
everything in his journey is
connected, with Sora himself
as the key to it all: the key that
will open the door to light
You are the key that will open the door to light.
Chosen wielder of the Keyblade!
Lore:
Organization XIII
• Yen Sid explains that while Sora’s previous efforts prevented a lot
of Heartless from entering the Realm of Light, darkness lurks
within most hearts, preventing them from ever truly going away
• Yen Sid further elaborates on the enemies the group will
encounter on their journey
• As before, both Pureblood and Emblem Heatless exist, and arise
from the darkness within people’s hearts
• Nobodies form if a person with a strong will becomes a Heartless;
the empty body and soul left behind act with a will of its own; they
“do not exist”
• While Nobodies may seem to have emotions, they are apparently
faking it, since they lack hearts
• The strongest of the Nobodies, which take a human shape,
formed Organization XIII (more like Organization VII at this point)
and command lesser Nobodies
• They seem to be working towards a common goal, but Yen Sid
isn’t sure what that is
• Mickey went off to fight against the Organization, and has been
on the run ever since the events of CoM
If the heart succumbs to Darkness
The heart always
becomes a heartless
If the user had a strong will, the
body and soul left behind may form
a Nobody
Real strong Nobodies keep a human
shape, get nifty powers and join
Organization XIII
• Yen Sid directs Sora into a room with three fairies
who give Sora magical garments to aid him on his
journey through the use of Drive Forms
• Flora, Fauna and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty
• These forms give Sora a boost to his abilities based
on his friends or past experiences
Valor Wisdom Master Limit ANTI
• With his new clothes in tow, Yen Sid
returns the group’s Gummi Ship and
informs them of an additional change to
the worlds
• With the events of KH1 returning the
worlds to their initial states, the barriers
once keeping the worlds separate are also
restored, eliminating the Gummi Ship
pathways between them
• In response, worlds now have Gates,
acting as connections between the worlds
which may form paths to allow for travel
from world to world when unlocked with
the Keyblade
• With this information, Sora, Donald and
Goofy leave for their first world in their
new adventure
• As the trio and Yen Sid leave, the three fairies notice a
raven on the window
• The raven drops off a set of familiar looking robes,
with the fairies remembering that they belonged to
Maleficent
• In the act of remembering her, Maleficent is able to
seemingly resurrect herself
• (we’ll get to the how and why wayyyyyy later)
• She proceeds to cackle madly, accomplish nothing,
and leave, which she will continue to do for the
majority of the rest of series
• SDG soon arrive in Hollow Bastion once again, this time
finding that a town has been built
• The trio soon encounters the Traverse Town group, now
working to restore their former home world as the Hollow
Bastion Restoration Committee
• To help control threats in the town, the committee has been
able to make use of a computer-based security system able to
defeat Heartless and Nobodies that enter the town
• After making Sora an honourary member, Leon explains that
they need Sora’s help both to take care of the lesser
Nobodies, and a vast sea of Heartless within the valley below,
near Maleficent’s current base of operations, Villain’s Vale
• The remaining members of Organization XIII (except Axel)
appear to taunt the group, hinting at his connection to Roxas
before vanishing
• Back in their meeting room, the Organization muse on the
Keyblade wielder’s new adventure before moving out to
pursue their unknown objective…
I’m in the committee too! Me! Merlin! I
even have a new volume of the Winnie
the Pooh world Sora!!
The Journey Finally Begins
• As the group sets out from Hollow Bastion, SDG moves along
through a series of Disney Worlds to accomplish their goals:
1. Find King Mickey and Riku
2. Open the Gates to travel between worlds
3. Find out what Organization XIII is planning and stop them
• The group encounters a few members of the Organization on
their early travels including…
ORGANIZATION XIII: XALDIN
Attribute: Wind
Weapon: Lindworm
III
The Whirlwind Lancer 旋風の六槍
• Probably tied with Lexaeus
for “most boring
Organization member”
• Cool fight later though
• Super into Beauty and the
Beast
• Grand plan to gaslight the
Beast into becoming a
Heartless so he can add his
respective Nobody to their
ranks
• Can’t even take a hostage
correctly, smh
ORGANIZATION XIII: DEMYX
Attribute: Water
Weapon: Arpeggio
IX
The Melodious Nocturne 夜想のしらべ
• “Dance magic water dance!”
• A lazy slacker who would rather play his sitar
than do any actual work for the Organization
• Initially sent to Olympus Coliseum to find
Sora and try to awaken Roxas, but failed and
fled after a brief battle
• Definitely the odd man out of the still living
Organization members by KH2, and has the
most obvious personality aside from Axel
• As SDG continues their journey, Pete has
informed Maleficent that none of her Legion
of Doom are interested in joining her for a
second round, while also informing her of
everything that happened since she died
• The group briefly stops at Disney Castle upon
the request of the Queen who tells them that
they are under attack by Heartless
• The Queen, escorted to the throne room,
shows Sora an object called the Cornerstone
of Light, a large orb with the power to repel
darkness
• The room is covered in thorns and Maleficent
appears, letting the group know of her
resurrection and her intent to corrupt the
Cornerstone of Light and take the castle for
herself
• The group seek Merlin’s help who is able to create a door
to the past, allowing them to head to the point in time
where they can prevent the corruption of the castle,
telling them to find the matching door that the enemy is
using and close it
• The group is transported to the past (now in black and
white) and after a brief encounter with past Pete,
continue to track down the Pete from their time
• A series of flashbacks show how Pete, wishing to go back
in time after being berated by Maleficent, found a door
to Timeless River and was instructed to destroy the
Cornerstone of Light
• With the corruption gone, group continue on the next leg
of their journey, while strange things begin to happen
back on Destiny Islands…
• We open on a scene of Pluto following Axel in the same city as Roxas’s
flashbacks
• While the dog is unable to follow, a second Corridor of Darkness appears
after someone whistles to him
• Kairi is beginning to wonder if she should try to find Sora herself, when
Axel appears claiming to be an acquaintance of Sora’s and offers to take
her to him
• Pluto soon arrives and leads Kairi away; the two vanishing through
another Corridor of Darkness before Axel can send his Dusks after them
• While in a strange tunnel, the whistle is heard again and a bright light
appears
• While Kairi sees someone in an Organization cloak, the portal closed
behind her before she can approach them
• The two arrive in Twilight Town, encountering Hayner, Pence and Olette
at their usual spot
• Soon afterwards, SDG return to Twilight Town for more leads, but are
soon attacked by more Nobodies led by…
ORGANIZATION XIII: SAÏX
Attribute: Moon
Weapon: Lunatic
VII
The Lunar Diviner 月に舞う魔人
• Speaks softly, carries a big stick
• Seems to have a particular interest in Axel
• He informs SDG that Axel has betrayed the
organization and is planning on turning Sora
into a Heartless
• Also says that the Organization doesn’t want
Sora hurt, encouraging him to keep fighting
the Heartless
• Before leaving, Saïx also hints at Riku’s
whereabouts, but Sora is unable to ask for
more
• As thanks for fending off the Nobodies, Seifer gives Sora
the real version of the struggle trophy before Hayner and
Olette arrive
• They inform Sora that a little while after Kairi arrived, Axel
appeared and kidnapped her, despite the trios best efforts
• Angered, Sora vows to get his friend back, and the group
move on with their journey
• At the Organization’s headquarters, Saïx reports to his
Superior, confirming that he told Sora to keep fighting the
Heartless
• The Superior explains that he wanted this message
delivered to make Sora doubt himself, as if one of the
Organization told him to keep doing it, it would make the
boy hesitate, become upset and drive him to continue his
goal as fast as possible
Not my wrist, that’s my one weakness!
• SDG return to Hollow Bastion, briefly encountering
Cloud who is after Sephiroth, and asks the group to let
him know if they encounter the swordsman
• They note how more Heartless and Nobodies seem to
be present in the area
• Meeting up with the Restoration Committee, Cid and
Aerith reveal that King Mickey is meeting with Leon,
and the two have found Ansem’s lab and computer
within the castle
• Hopeful that they can get more information on the
Organization, Sora and co. rush off to meet them,
briefly encountering three strange fairies who work for
Maleficent
I’ll get him.
• Sora, Donald and Goofy head
inside the lab, with no signs of
Leon or Mickey, but briefly
encounter Tifa, who is looking for
Cloud
• The group also see a portrait of a
young silver-haired man, who they
assume is Ansem before he
became the Heartless they are
familiar with
• Leon soon appears from a secret
passage, bringing Sora to the
computer, warning them not to
damage it
• Due to an interruption by Stitch,
the group end up hitting the
computer, and a voice announces
that they are under arrest
• Leon warns them of a laser on the
other side of the room, which then
fires at the three, who disappear.
• Sora regains consciousness in a strange world, now
wearing armour and seeing Donald and Goofy being
taken away by several Heartless, led by Commander
Sark, who captures Sora as well
• The three are placed in a cell alongside Tron, who
explains that the three are inside the computer itself,
and the MCP has taken over
• Tron helps the three escape through the use of a
terminal, offering to help Tron defeat the MCP by
finding his user and getting the password to
something called the dataspace, referred to as the
DTD
• This would allow Tron to regain his functions, and the
group may be able to access sensitive information
relating to Ansem, the Heartless and Organization XIII
• Tron reveals that his User is none other than Ansem
the Wise
• Before Sora can explain that Ansem is dead, the MCP
finds them, forcing the trios hasty escape from the
data world
Say, fellas, did somebody mention the
Door to Darkness?
• Back outside the computer, the group discuss with Leon how to get
the password if Ansem has died
• While searching the lab, Tifa moves the portrait of Ansem revealing
information which shows that the DTD Tron mentioned stands for
“Door to Darkness”, though they still don’t have the password
• Mickey arrives, telling them to keep quiet as the Organization may be
listening
• He believes that since the seven Princesses of Heart were required to
open the real Door to Darkness, their names may be the password
• Mickey tells them that they can use the information to find out where
Ansem is, but before he can elaborate further, SDG head back into the
datascape to help Tron
• After escaping from Sark’s game grid, SDG reunite with Tron and explain that they returned to give
him the password, with Tron asking why they didn’t just enter it from outside the computer
• Regardless, the four make their way to the main security tower, and Tron enters the names of the
seven Princesses of Heart
• With access to the DTD, Tron’s full functions are restored, but also gave the MCP full access to the
system
• The MCP prepares to activate a self-destruct program for all of Hollow Bastion, but Tron is able to
stall for time and the four are avert the destruction of the town by destroying a hostile program
deployed by the MCP
• Tron is pleased to have a fighting chance against the MCP, as it is what Ansem would want
• Sora confesses that Ansem was their enemy, with Tron surprisingly saying that the man is his
enemy as well, as he is the one who restored the MCP to the DTD system
• He explains that there was a time when Ansem would never do such a thing, confusing Sora
further
• Tron tells the three that their names are the new password, wishing them well before returning
them to the real world
Mistaken
Identity
• SDG access the computer, searching for Riku, Kairi, Nobodies
and Organization XIII, all yielding no results
• Frustrated, Sora starts hitting random keys until a picture of
an unknown man with blonde hair and orange eyes appears
• Mickey enters the room, congratulating them, and tells
them that the man in the photo is Ansem the Wise, much to
the group’s confusion
• Sora drags Mickey to the portrait of the silver-haired man,
insisting that this in Ansem
• Mickey proceeds to explain that their old foe was not the
real Ansem, but merely an imposter who stole the identity
of Ansem the Wise
• The silver-haired man wrote most of the “Ansem” reports
from KH1 under that name, before unleashing the Heartless
on Hollow Bastion, and turning himself into the Heartless
the trio fought and defeated in KH1
• While dismayed that all of that effort was put into defeating
a fake, Mickey assures them that Ansem Seeker of Darkness
(SoD) needed to be stopped regardless
Lore: Secret Ansem report I
• As SDG have progressed, they have found several reports written by the Ansem the
Wise
• The reports go into detail of how he was the leader of a place called Radiant Garden,
who wanted to understand the nature of light and darkness to preserve the
happiness of his people
• He began with a psychological experiment with Xehanort, who has served Ansem
ever since the latter found the amnesiac young man several years prior, hoping to
recover the young man’s memories
• Ansem soon grew concerned with Xehanort’s well-being and potentially superhuman
abilities
• His reports soon detail that it was a grave mistake, the project snowballing with the
construction of a lab in the basement of his castle, while his apprentices began
collecting subjects for experiments on the “darkness of the heart” without his
permission or knowledge
• Ansem demanded that his six apprentices cease their operations and destroy their
research, falling into despair
• He soon met with King Mickey, who told him of the Keyblade and found a friend and
confidant in the King
• Mickey suggested that Ansem review the data obtained in the basement lab, where
Ansem soon discovered the “Ansem’s Reports” found by Sora and friends in KH1
• Ansem notes that the only one written by him was the very first, with all others
written by Xehanort
Mistaken Identity
• Goofy asks that if the Ansem SoD was who they defeated, what happened
to Ansem the Wise
• Mickey explains that he was hoping the computer would give him a clue,
believing that he might have information on Organization XIII
• Goofy realizes that if Ansem SoD was the Heartless of this fake Ansem,
then he must have also created a Nobody
• Mickey confirms that he does have a Nobody, who is actually the Superior
of Organization XIII briefly encountered in KH1
• All of Sora’s work so far has been dedicating to fighting two halves of the
same person
• Mickey recalls meeting the false Ansem before his split into Heartless and
Nobody, but can’t remember the specifics such as his real name, or where
he met the fake Ansem
• Sora asks Mickey if he knows where Riku is, and while he clearly knows
something, the King refuses to answer
• Upon being informed of Kairi’s capture by the Organization, Mickey says
that the they should work on finding Riku and Kairi together, and can hold
off in finding Ansem the Wise
• As he says this, a huge quake reverberates throughout the castle…
The false Ansem
His Heartless
Ansem, Seeker of Darkness
His Nobody
The Superior of Organization XIII
Battle of 1000 Heartless
• The party rushes outside, seeing a huge army of Heartless led by Maleficent and Pete doing battle
with several Nobodies
• With the Nobodies having the upper hand, Pete flees while Maleficent remains, ordering the
Heartless to attack Sora when she spots him
• Sora, Donald and Goofy fight a mix of both Heartless and Nobodies on their way out of the castle,
running into and convincing Maleficent’s fairy minions to change sides
• The group continue battling their way through Hollow Bastion, with all members of the Restoration
Committee doing their part
• Sora briefly runs into Sephiroth, who is searching for Cloud to make him give into his own darkness
• Mickey tries to order get Sora and co. to leave and search for Riku and Kairi, but the three ignore the
order and remain to help their friends
Think you can handle this many?
I see... He wants to meet me again. Then I should
give him what he wants. That last bit of light is
always the hardest to snuff out.
No Heart
• As the battle rages outside, the Superior of
Organization XIII enters Ansem’s lab
• While spotted by security, he makes short work of
the system, entering a disc into the computer and
inputs a series of passwords
• A secret passage opens within the castle, and begins
a very long walk down to a secluded room
• As he walks, he recalls his time as one of Ansem the
Wise’s apprentices, asking for permission to perform
an experiment on Hollow Bastion’s Keyhole and the
Heart of the world
• Ansem forbade it, referring to this apprentice by his
real name; Xehanort
• Finally reaching his destination, Xehanort’s Nobody
sits within a chair in the hidden chamber, looking
upon a suit of armour that he addresses as “friend”;
a worn Keyblade beside it
It has been far too long,
“friend”.
No Heart
• In a flashback scene set before/during KH1, we see Vexen asking
Zexion where the Superior is, referring to him as Xemnas
• Zexion informs Vexen that Xemnas is located within the Chamber of
Repose, Vexen storming off in response
• Zexion is stopped again by the Organization’s No. II, telling the
Illusionist that he has just recruited “Mar-something” to their cause
• No. II asks about the Chamber of Repose, explaining that before
becoming an apprentice under Ansem, Xehanort was involved in a
fearsome battle between Keyblade wielders
• The outcome of the battle caused Xehanort to lose his memories,
working under Ansem until his betrayal
• The Chamber of Repose was initially used to study darkness, and
was initially sealed by Ansem the Wise until Xehanort opened it up
again
• Xemnas, giving strict orders to never be disturbed within this
chamber, occasionally leaves to talk to someone in the chamber,
though there should be no one there
• Zexion tells his cohort that they need to focus on finishing the
Castle Oblivion project, with No. II telling Zexion about an
additional goal Xemnas has not informed the group about
• The Chamber of Repose has a counterpart called the Chamber of
Waking somewhere within Castle Oblivion which Xemnas wishes to
find, as his other “friend” is contained within
• Continuing through the valley, Sora, Donald and Goofy are
confronted by Demyx, who is still reluctant to fight
• While they insult Demyx’s lack of heart, he says that Nobodies do
have hearts, but the group don’t buy it
• Demyx refers to Sora as a traitor and attacks, with SDG destroying
the Nobody in this encounter
• Mickey catches up with the group, as a battle above knocks a
boulder in his direcition
• Goody pushes him away, getting hit in the head, knocking the knight
down
• Sora, Donald, and Mickey (discarding his cloak), enraged at the
seeming death of their friend, race onward to aid Restoration
Committee in their fight
• After regrouping in a nearby cave they are rejoined by Goofy, who
explains that he was merely knocked unconscious
• Making their way to the bottom of the canyon, the four see the
Superior, who finally reveals his face…
Battle of 1000
Heartless
They’ll pay for this.
ORGANIZATION XIII: XEMNAS
Attribute: Nothingness
Weapon: Interdiction
I
The Superior of the In-Between 狭間の指導者
• The Nobody of Xehanort and leader of
Organization XIII
• “M A N S E X. Got it memorized? Wait, that’s
not right…”
• Once Mickey sees his face, he is able to recall
a meeting he once had with Ansem the Wise
• During the meeting Xehanort, still an apprentice
under Ansem, enters and asks about an
experiment which Ansem deemed too
dangerous
• Mickey finally recalls Xehanort’s name, to his
Nobody’s amusement
• The group tries to follow Xemnas, but are
interrupted by a large army of Heartless
Battle of 1000 Heartless
• Sora, alone against an army of 1000 Heartless, proceeds to
destroy them all after a taxing battle
• As the group confronts Xemnas, Sora demands to know
where Riku and Kairi are
• Xemnas claims not to know about Kairi’s whereabouts, but
tells Sora that the King knows about Riku’s whereabouts
before vanishing, Mickey following behind the Superior
• Axel soon appears telling Sora that the Organization’s goal
is to keep destroying Heartless with the Keyblade to free
the hearts within
• While ordinarily a good thing, Organization XIII has found a
way to gather these hearts
• Before Sora can ask more of Axel, Saïx appears, forcing the
redhead to flee and telling Sora that they will punish Axel
for his betrayal
• Saïx tells the boy that they have Kairi captive at their
headquarters, and refuses to let the boy see his friend,
despite his begging
• Saïx tells the now furious Sora to direct his rage at the
Heartless, saying that the hearts Sora has freed will come
together to form Kingdom Hearts, and allow the Nobodies
to become whole
Battle of 1000
Heartless
• Maleficent appears claiming that the right to Kingdom Hearts is
hers alone, summoning Heartless to attack SaĂŻx
• Saïx, in turn, summons Dusks which defeat the Heartless and try to
attack Sora, who is saved by Maleficent
• She intends to use the boy to eliminate the remaining Organization
members, fading away as the Dusks overcome her
• Saïx summons more Heartless (who follow the strongest side, now
clearly the Organization), letting Sora defeat them to collect the
freed hearts
• Sora, in despair over being used for the Organization’s plans,
refuses to fight but is soon sent into a portal of darkness by
Maleficent
• In the portal, a hooded figure leaves SDG a box containing the
photo from the digital Twilight Town (with Roxas included), and
some sea-salt ice cream which served to open the next gate
• SDG returned to the Gummy Ship, with Sora feeling as though Riku
was the one who gave him the box
• Despite being backed into a corner, the group resolves to fight
more Heartless and re-visit the worlds they’ve seen for more clues
about the location of Organization XIII’s headquarters
• After the battle, the Organization meets again with Saïx wondering if it will be
harder to control Sora now that he knows about the plan
• No. II assures Saïx that Sora is too much of a goody-two shoes, and that his
desire to help others will keep him in conflict with the Heartless
• After wondering if they should keep Sora alive until the plan is complete, Xemnas
tells the group that if Sora is weak enough to be beaten by them, he is of no use
to them
• From here on, the Organization directly interferes with the order of each Disney
world
• The only Organization member to die during this part of the game is Xaldin who
is killed in Beast’s Castle (down to IV now guys, maybe start getting a little
worried)
• Sora also briefly re-encounters the hooded figure who gave the three the photo
and ice-cream, who also possesses Riku’s Soul Eater sword
• We are also formally introduced to the remaining Organization members…
World Tour Take Two
ORGANIZATION XIII: XIGBAR
Attribute: Space
Weapon: Sharpshooters
II
The Freeshooter 魔弾の射手
• “Oopsy daisy!”
• Speaks in a confident, laid-back surfer
accent, dismissing any concerns with a
simple “As if.”
• Despite this attitude, he is very cunning and
as his past knowledge of Xehanort shows,
clearly knows more than he lets on
• Briefly encountered Sora in Hollow Bastion’s
first visit, but formally reveals himself in the
Land of Dragons, being mistaken for Riku
(who Sora thinks may be the hooded figure
that keeps helping SDG) by the boy
ORGANIZATION XIII: LUXORD
Attribute: Time
Weapon: Fair Game
X
The Gambler of Fate 運命を賭す者
• The only person who would by hyped by a
Kingdom Hearts pachinko game
• A man of games and luck, Luxord is a
gambler at his core, able to read others
quite well
• Sora encounters him in Port Royal, where
he uses the curse of the Aztec gold to
enhance a Heartless, a game which he
loses
• Despite his loss, Luxord is not a sore
loser, deeming such things as part of the
hand fate deals
• Despite their vast travels, Sora and co. haven’t
been able to find the location of Organization
XIII’s hideout, returning to Hollow Bastion once
again
• They find it overrun with Heartless from Space
Paranoids, Merlin claiming that the MCP has
been generating more Emblem Heartless the
same way that Xehanort did in the past
• Using a program developed by Cid, Sora, Tron
and the others are able to defeat the MCP for
good, putting Tron in control of the security
system
• Tron shows the Restoration Committee an
image of Hollow Bastion in its prime, before the
damage caused by Xehanort and Maleficent,
with everyone recalling the worlds original
name: Radiant Garden
Loose Ends:
One-Winged Angel
• After dealing with the MCP, Sora encounters Sephiroth
once again, who takes an interest in the Keyblade,
proceeding to duel Sora to try and claim it
• After a difficult battle, Sora manages to seemingly
triumph, though the one-winged angel is not harmed,
stating that while an impressive effort, Cloud is the
only one who can destroy him, requesting Sora find
his nemesis
• Sora, telling Cloud about Sephiroth, witnesses a clash
between the two
• During the battle, Tifa finally manages to find Cloud,
telling him that she is his light, briefly fighting off
Sephiroth herself
• Cloud and Sephiroth soon vanish in a flash of light,
with Tifa continuing her search for her friend all over
again…
Loose Ends:
Rage Awakened
• Before heading back to Twilight Town, Sora makes a
quick stop to Disney Castle, finding a strange portal
near the throne room
• On the other side, Sora, Donald and Goofy find
themselves in a wasteland, standing before a kneeling
armoured figure with a large Keyblade
• The armour, referred to as the Lingering Will, recalls
“Aqua” and “Ven”, before noticing Sora’s Keyblade
• The figure seems to recall meeting Sora before, but
noting that the boy was “not the one he chose way
back when”
• Mistaking Sora for Xehanort, the figure rises, draws
his Keyblade and proceeds to put the three through
the most difficult battle they will face for a very long
time
• After some time, the Lingering Will realizes that it was
wrong in its assumption that Sora was Xehanort
• Going dormant once again, the Lingering Will awaits
the real Xehanort, promising to have its revenge
• With no clues to the location of Organization XIII’s hideout, the group decide to check the
Twilight Town mansion in the photo given to them by the robed figure
• The three run into Hayner, Pence and Olette, who went to the mansion to try and find Kairi
• The kids know that strange visitors have come and gone from the mansion, and with clues such
as the duplicate trophy orb and munny pouch, they believe that there may be a gateway to an
alternate Twilight Town inside
• Some Nobodies appear to attack them, but Mickey reappears to help them out
• Mickey tells them that he has learned that the Ansem the Wise has infiltrated Organization
XIII’s world
• Sora tells him about the photo that he believes Riku have him, asking the King what he knows
about his friend
• Mickey is hesitant to answer, but lets it slip that he made Riku a promise
• Sora, ecstatic that his friend is alright and that he might be able to see him soon, heads into the
mansion with the others
• Inside the mansion, they find DiZ’s computer
room, but require a password to enter
• Guessing that it has something to do with the sea-
salt ice cream they received in the box (Ansem’s
favourite flavour) they use it as the password
which grants them access to the Twilight Town
simulation
• Entering the simulation, Sora see’s the computer
smashed by Roxas and a portal, presumably left
behind by Axel when he entered the data-based
town
• Inside the portal, they find themselves in a field of
emptiness known as Betwixt and Between where
they encounter an army of lesser Nobodies

Kingdom Hearts: A series summary and "quick" guide

  • 1. Timeline and Retrospective A St. John’s Sweaties Production
  • 2. Foreword • The thesis of this presentation is to be a basic understanding of the Kingdom Hearts series up to the end of 2023, while poking some fun at the series as a whole. • To keep things simple (and clean), we’ll be going in order of release rather than in chronological order of events, both for simplicities sake, and to somewhat preserve some of the impact some of these moments may have within their respective game. • All images, characters, music and concepts from this series are owned by Squaresoft/Square-Enix and Disney. This was made as a laugh between friends and is a non-profit work. • Fan Art used in each section will be credited at the end of their respective section.
  • 3. Commonly Used Resources • A lot of the resources used to construct this presentation are available publicly, with some of the most used ones listed below: • TV Tropes Kingdom Hearts Recap Page • Kingdom Hearts Insider • Kingdom Hearts Wiki • Everglow (YouTube) • GamersLittlePlayground (Youtube) for cutscene clips
  • 5. One sky, one destiny
  • 7. • Kairi • Personality: Girl • Friends with Sora and Riku • Riku • Personality: Brooding Rival • A bit of a snot in this game • Sora • Personality: Plucky Hero • Ignore the Keyblade for now
  • 8. Awakening • The series begins with Sora having a strange dream, falling from the sky into the sea below • He finds himself in a void full of stained-glass pillars, the Dive to the Heart • As he progresses, the pillars begin to descend into darkness and is soon attacked by shadow-like creatures • On the final pillar, his shadow grows into a large monster called Darkside • While he fights well, he falls into darkness before reawakening on…
  • 9. • Home of Kairi, Riku and Sora • Kairi came from somewhere else, has little memory of it • All three are very good friends • Riku acts as a friendly rival for Sora • Sora has a crush on Kairi • Riku acts like a Disney Princess and “wants to find more” • All three want to build a raft to try and find new worlds beyond their islands • Some Final Fantasy characters also present as friends to the trio but are not overly significant • Tidus (FFX) • Wakka (FFX) • Selphie (FFVIII) • Also home to trees that grow Paopu fruit • Star shaped fruit which, according to legend, tie two people together if they share the same fruit • Riku and Sora share one before leaving the island for the day • The two boys later get into a competition over who gets to share one with Kairi
  • 10. Lore: What is a World? • Long before the events of KH, during the “Age of Fairy Tales”, there was once a single world which was found within the Realm of Light • People fought over the Light within their world, causing Darkness to appear in their hearts, eventually consuming the world • Fragments of light remained within the hearts of children, allowing for the reconstruction of the world, only spread within individual pieces that are completely separate from each other, waiting until true light returned. • Each world is represented as individual levels in the game • Rules of the Worlds: • Worlds all have their own laws/order (physics/magic/etc.) • Worlds are all separated by a place called the “Ocean Between” • Worlds are traditionally cut off by barriers and don’t know about each other for the most part • Important to keep the “world order”, basically the prime directive from Star Trek. The party changes appearance in some worlds (courtesy of Donald’s magic) to fit in for this reason. • “lol” said Sora. “lmao”
  • 11. • When building the raft, Sora sees a weird guy in a brown cloak near a hidden door in the islands “secret place” • The door hidden in Destiny Islands has always been there, but not one knows how to open it • The figure spouts some cryptic words about darkness (get used to this) before vanishing This world has been connected. Tied to the darkness … soon to be completely eclipsed.
  • 12. Later that night… • A big storm happens that night • Concerned about the raft, Sora heads to the island to make sure it doesn’t get destroyed • Sora has a mom, who is never seen again • He meets Riku on the island who starts mentions that “the door has been opened” • He wants to use the portal to travel off of Destiny Islands with Sora • Riku disappears in the dark portal, leaving Sora behind • Small dark creatures start appearing • Sora tries to beat them with his wooden sword, but it does nothing
  • 13. The Keyblade! • Before he can be harmed by the dark creatures, a mysterious weapon appears in Sora’s hand: the Keyblade • Only Sora can use it • If anyone else picks it up, it warps back to him • It can change appearance using different keychains • There’s more too it, but we’ll get there in later games • Sora finds Kairi, though she’s a bit out of it • The door on the island opens up, and endless expanse of darkness behind it • Kairi is blown away, seeming to pass through Sora before vanishing • Sora is also blown away, and passes out as the island is consumed by darkness
  • 15. • Goofy • Captain of the Royal Guard • Uses a shield in combat • Donald Duck • Court Magician • Uses magic (#dosomethingdonald) • “The King” • Disappeared leaving a letter behind with Pluto
  • 16. • Stars are disappearing from the sky which the King has left to investigate why • He tasks Goofy and Donald to “find the key bearer” and protect them • Goofy and Donald leave on the Gummi Ship to find them • Chip and Dale are engineers apparently • Jiminy Cricket is assigned as the chronicler to the group, noting their adventure within his Journal • The Gummi Ship: a craft made of a material referred to as gummi blocks which allows for travel between worlds through the Ocean Between • Gummi blocks are made of the same material as the barriers between worlds, allowing traversal • When barriers between worlds are destroyed, they appear as meteor showers
  • 18. • Sora awakens in Traverse Town • A place which takes in people who have lost their worlds • Meets up with some Final Fantasy characters who give him some important information about the Keyblade and what happened to Sora’s world • Squall (FFVIII, called Leon here for some reason) • Aerith (FFVII) • Yuffie (FFVII) • Cid (FFVII) • Moogles (synthesize items) • Sora meets and teams up with Donald and Goofy Waking up
  • 19. • The enemies that appeared on Destiny Island, and are found throughout all worlds • People have hearts, which is a composition of memories, will, goals and ambitions and allows a person to have emotions • Each world also has a heart which keeps it in the Realm of Light • Hearts have both Light and Darkness • Light = Good, Darkness = Bad • If a heart is overcome by darkness, it becomes a Heartless, leaving the body and soul behind • By instinct Heartless look for more light and convert hearts to darkness • Major goal is to look for the heart of a world and have it “fall into the Realm of Darkness” • Can only be prevented by locking the heart of a world with the Keyblade • Destroying a Heartless with the Keyblade frees the trapped heart within • While Heartless can be killed through magic or weaponry, only the Keyblade can free hearts from the Heartless and permanently destroy them
  • 20. Lore: Types of Heartless • Heartless comes in two varieties • Emblem Heartless (top): Heartless with logos are manufactured. • Manufactured through experimentation (in particular made by a man who goes by the name of Ansem) • If hearts are stolen by a Heartless, they become an Emblem Heartless • If an Emblem Heartless is destroyed, it releases the stolen heart which leaves • Pureblood Heartless (bottom): natural Heartless which form when people’s hearts are consumed by darkness • When destroyed, they vanish and return to the realm of darkness • Heartless can be commanded by a powerful enough force, though it requires a strong will
  • 21. SDG Goals: 1. Sora wants to find Riku and Kairi 2. Goofy and Donald want to find the King 3. Our trinity goes between worlds to look for their friends and seal the keyholes that lead to the heart of each world to prevent them from falling to darkness
  • 23. Villain Goals: • Several Disney villains led by Maleficent plan on co-opting the heartless for their own individual schemes that follow closely with the original movies • Maleficent herself mentions that her long-time goal has been to find the “7 Princesses of Heart” to open the way to something called Kingdom Hearts, said to be the heart of all worlds and an object of great power • Riku awakens at this unknown castle and is found by the Legion of Doom
  • 24. Lore: Ansem reports I • As they progress and defeat various villains, SDG also pick up reports written by a man named Ansem, a beloved sage from an unknown world who wanted to understand the darkness within people’s hearts • He is responsible for: • Naming Heartless • Identifying their affinity for the hearts of both people and worlds • Identification and confirmation of the “hearts of worlds” • Finding Gummi blocks and discussing inter-world travel with the King • Development of Emblem Heartless through artificial means (and inhumane experimentation) • His reports mention discussions with a king with a vessel made of Gummi blocks, where he learns of the story of the Keyblade, which can bring either salvation or destruction of worlds as well
  • 25. The Journey at a Glance • The gang go through various Disney worlds, making friends with various Disney characters (and Cloud from FFVII), defeating members of Maleficent’s Legion of Doom and sealing the keyhole in each world. • After the first batch of Disney worlds, Riku shows up in Traverse Town, and Sora gives him the info about the Keyblade, and both agree to find Kairi • Maleficent manipulates Riku into using more darkness and stokes jealousy in the boy by suggesting that Sora doesn’t care about him and Kairi anymore, replacing them with Donald and Goofy • Some Disney characters (Alice and Jasmine) have also been kidnapped for an unknown purpose • The group continues through various Disney Worlds, meeting Riku a couple of times who begins acting hostile • Riku has found Kairi’s body, but she in a comatose state • The group continues through the remaining Disney worlds, until they reach the mysterious castle Riku arrived in… You can also go to the Winnie the Pooh world! Would you like to go to the Winnie the Pooh world?
  • 26. • SDG arrive at Hollow Bastion, but are stopped by Riku before entering the castle • Riku takes the Keyblade from Sora (and keeps it), claiming that the Keyblade was always meant to go to him, that Sora was simply meant to deliver it, and that there can’t be two Keyblade masters (heh) • Donald and Goofy, following the instruction left by their King, begrudgingly leave Sora behind • Sora proceeds with a wooden sword and help from Beast, who is here against all conceivable logic due to his desire to find Belle, who was also kidnapped
  • 27. • Challenging a darkness powered Riku again, claiming that his friends are his power, Sora reclaims both the Keyblade and his friends • Riku leaves, meeting again with the cloaked figure from Destiny islands who encourages him to fully submit to darkness • Team SDG defeats Maleficent before a weirdly-behaving Riku reappears wielding a weapon called the Keyblade of Heart, which has the ability to unlock a person’s heart and release the darkness within • He does this to Maleficent and who is fought as a dragon before she is seemingly killed • This Keyblade is constructed from the hearts of the other 6 Princesses of Heart
  • 28. • The next room shows 6 Princesses in glass containers, alongside the catatonic Kairi • Maleficent was able to gather the 7 Princesses of Heart, which should unlock the keyhole to Kingdom Hearts, but was unable to complete it • Riku, now completely possessed by Ansem (who was the cloaked figure on Destiny Islands), explains the following: • Princesses of Heart are those with absolutely no darkness in their hearts (i.e. they cannot form a Heartless under any circumstance) • Kairi is the final Princess of Heart • While her body is present, Kairi’s heart left her body and entered Sora’s during the initial attack on Destiny Islands
  • 29. • After defeating Riku-Ansem, Sora takes his dropped Keyblade of Hearts and seeing no other option to release Kairi’s heart from his body, uses it on himself • This action has the following immediate consequences: • Kairi’s heart is released from his body and put back into hers • The Keyblade of Hearts breaks, returning the hearts of the other Princesses of Heart • The way to Kingdom Hearts becomes opened, summoning a ton of heartless who are attracted to it • Sora himself becomes a heartless • (He’s just a little guy though)
  • 30. • Ansem himself appears, but is held off by Riku, who finally pulled his head out of his ass and gives Kairi, Goofy and Donald time to escape • Sora’s Heartless, which maintained some sense of self, heads to the entrance to help his friends • Kairi recognizes Sora and presumably based on their close connection and her status as a Princess of Heart, restored Sora to a human form • He was losing his sense of self, but the restoration happened before any real damage could be done • The group leave Hollow Bastion and regroup at Traverse Town Ansem Seeker of Darkness
  • 31. Preparing for the Finale • After catching their breath, the group resolves to return to Hollow Bastion, and seal the open Keyhole • Kairi gives Sora a good luck charm to represent their connection • The Hollow Bastion keyhole is sealed, though Ansem himself has retreated to the End of the World, a place created from the remains of worlds taken by the Heartless • During this second visit to Hollow Bastion, the group also encounter an Unknown Figure in a black cloak who phases through Sora, seemingly observing his memories of the journey so far • While familiar with Ansem, and remarking on Sora’s similarity to him, he proceeds to briefly battle the group before retreating – remarking that he is merely a shell Impressive. This will be enjoyable.
  • 32. Lore: Ansem reports II • Documentation found at Hollow Bastion, alongside reports gathered through optional encounters reveal additional aspects of Ansem’s research • The appearance of Heartless cause collapse of the Gummi Barriers between worlds • Worlds have some period between the arrival of Heartless, finding the door to a world’s heart and stealing the heart of a world • There is a relationship between the Princesses of Heart and the Keyblade • He selected a girl who might qualify for such a title and sent her off into the Ocean Between to land on another world • He was once a person, but willingly became a Heartless. Unlike others, he retained his memories and kept form of a person • To enter the Realm of Darkness, he believed he had to go beyond the door to Kingdom Hearts, the heart of all worlds • Makes mention of Realms of Light, Darkness and that of In-Between • Briefly postulates where the body goes when a Heartless is formed • Heart and soul are not the same thing. When the heart forms a Heartless, the soul stays with the body, and both disappear • Considers that without the existence of the dark or light of a heart, the remains exist in- between the two forming what he refers to as “non-existent ones”
  • 34. • Upon arriving at the end of the world, team SDG speculate that since this is a “Heartless world” it should disappear upon Ansem’s defeat, though their fates are uncertain • After fighting through several rounds of Heartless they encounter a chamber containing a strange machine, before eventually coming upon the ruins of Destiny Islands • Ansem appears in his true form, informing Sora that Riku can no longer hear him or resist Ansem • He goes on to explain that all worlds and hearts begin and end in darkness, that all worlds are the same, and that darkness is the true essence of the heart • Sora counters by saying that he believes that there is always a light that never expires, even in the deepest darkness END of the World
  • 35. • The fight begins, Ansem summons a plethora of darkness alongside a strange guardian Heartless called the Dark Figure which appears connected to him • Upon an initial defeat by Sora, he brings the group down further into darkness, fusing himself with a large heartless known as the World of Chaos for the final phase • With a lot of effort, the team manage to defeat the World of Chaos and Ansem END of the World
  • 36. • On his last legs and seeking the power of darkness, Ansem opens the Door to Darkness, where Kingdom Hearts, and the Realm of Darkness just beyond it, laid • However, Kingdom Hearts was not darkness as Ansem thought, but light. The light of Kingdom Hearts overwhelms Ansem, killing him. • Even with his defeat, the darkness surrounding Kingdom Hearts threatened to overwhelm the realm of light, and the door had to be closed. • Sora, Donald and Goofy, together with the reformed Riku whose body was restored on the other side of the door work to close the Door to Darkness. Kingdom Hearts
  • 37. Kingdom Hearts • Unfortunately, it isn’t enough as the door must be sealed from both sides to be properly closed • The King appears wielding the Kingdom Key D, the Keyblade representative of the Realm of Darkness and is the counterpart to Sora’s Kingdom Key from the Realm of Light • The door is sealed, with SDG in the Realm of Light, and Riku and King Mickey in the Realm of Darkness • As the parts of the End of the World return to where they belong, Sora finds Kairi, who is returning to Destiny Islands • Sora promises to return, but not before finding Riku and bringing him home • SDG are left on a lone road on a grassy field, where they find Pluto with another letter from the King. • The three chase after the dog, ending the events of Kingdom Hearts 1

  • 40. The Key to Memory & TheRoadto Dawn
  • 41. Part 1: The Key to Memory Sora’s Story
  • 42. • Immediately after the events of KH1, SDG are still searching for Riku and the King before being led astray by a mysterious figure in a black cloak; similar to the one met in Hollow Bastion • The group arrive at a mysterious place called Castle Oblivion, which serves as the setting for the entirety of this game. • Shortly after entering the castle, we meet our first of many anime villains–
  • 43. He (cryptically) explains that Castle Oblivion has two rules: The deeper you travel into the castle, the more memories you’ll lose. Everything within the castle operates on cards. Why cards? Because it used to be a GBA game. -> There isn’t really much of a lore reason as far as we know
  • 44. • Cutting through his flowery language, our mystery villain insinuates that Riku and (by extension) Mickey are somewhere within the castle. • With no other options, SDG (and Jiminy) head further inside, and begin their ascent throughout the castle’s many floors “Walk the avenues of latent memory and you shall meet someone dear to you.” Say less. ? ? Ascending the Castle
  • 45. Lore: Worlds within Castle Oblivion • Unlike the previous game, the worlds you visit in CoM are not real. • The “law” of Castle Oblivion requires Sora to physically traverse his memories of the first game to progress further into the castle • These worlds are Sora’s memories (extracted into card form) made manifest by Castle Oblivion • The essentially speed through the Disney plots touched on in the first game (just swap out the word “Heart” for “Memory” and it’s quite similar) • The group figure this out upon arrival to the reconstruction of Traverse Town, where Leon and his friends don’t recognize the group, but still know their names • Upon clearing Traverse Town, the group arrive on the next floor, before being accosted by another cloaked figure… There’s even memories of the Winnie the Pooh world!
  • 46. ORGANIZATION XIII: AXEL Attribute: Fire Weapon: Eternal Flames VIII The Flurry of Dancing Flames おどる火の風 • IT’S HIM, IT’S MR. ANIME HIMSELF!! • The internet is so horny for him that he literally cannot die • The first member of a group simply called “the Organization” in CoM, which will be elaborated on further in KH2 • Sarcastic, aloof personality, and is constantly asking if people have “Got it memorized?” • His motives are seemingly unclear at this point, but get expanded upon in future installments…
  • 47. ● After their confrontation, he tells Sora that he is prepared to venture further into he castle, and that he needs to trust his memories to find the person “most important to him” ● Sora asks if he means Riku or the King, but Axel says that Sora needs to give it more thought ● Axel warns Sora that if he discovers his buried memories, he may no longer be the same person he is now ● The group forge onward, but not before showing signs of forgetting the end of their last journey ● Notably, Jiminy’s Journal (thus the chronicled adventures of KH1) is soon rendered completely blank as well… Ascending the Castle
  • 48. ● Continuing onward, Sora reminisces about his promise to return Kairi’s good luck charm to her ● However, when recalling the memory, Kairi is seemingly replaced by a young blonde girl instead ● As he ventures upward, Sora begins remembering her living on the islands alongside himself, Kairi and Riku ● The group concludes that Sora must be remembering new things instead of just forgetting, putting the first cloaked figure’s words into perspective ● Things continue as normal until… Ascending the Castle
  • 49. ORGANIZATION XIII: LARXENE Attribute: Lightning Weapon: Foudre XII The Savage Nymph 非情の妖姫 • She’s such a bitch, I’m in love • The lone female member of the Organization • Sadistic and sharp-witted, she revels in taunting both allies and enemies alike • Incites a fight with Sora by mocking the fact that he can’t even remember the mysterious blonde girls’ name
  • 50. • Before Larxene left to fight Sora, it is revealed that she is conspiring to take over the Organization, with Axel supposedly helping her • She tells Axel to remain quiet about the plan before vanishing, with Axel saying she should have done the same, implying that he is a double agent • Before starting the fight, Larxene confirms that the blonde girl Sora has been remembering is in Castle Oblivion • Sora drops Kairi’s charm in the ensuing scuffle (which now looks quite different), but can’t remember what it is; Larxene taunting him about his forgetfulness • Upon urging Sora to remember a promise he made to the owner of the charm, Sora finally recalls the name of his friend: NaminĂŠ • Sora defeats Larxene, who flees the scene, leaving a furious Sora behind • Larxene reports back to Axel who mocks her for losing to Sora • Suddenly, another Organization member arrives… Ascending the Castle
  • 51. ORGANIZATION XIII: VEXEN Attribute: Ice Weapon: Frozen Pride IV The Chilly Academic いてつく学究 • “I’m a scientist, experiments are what I do, yes >:)” • Essentially a (relatively) saner Hojo from FFVII • A loner in the Organization. Would prefer to perform his unethical science in peace • He chastises Larxene for letting herself lose to Sora, and isn’t confident that Sora is worth the effort • He is, however, willing to test a “new subject” that we wishes to try out; which appears to be Riku
  • 52. • As Sora continues to climb floors, he is surprised to see none other than Riku, and asks why he is in Castle Oblivion • Insulted, Riku asks if he was looking for someone more important, stating that Sora had probably forgotten about him • Riku claims to only care about finding NaminĂŠ now, before transforming into his Dark Mode and attacking Sora • Upon defeat, Riku leaves, with the group wondering if Riku has potentially fallen into darkness again, expressing concern for the King who was with Riku when the Door to Darkness closed • Jiminy assures Sora that the memory altering effects of the castle may be changing Riku’s memories too, and the group press on, determined to find answers Ascending the Castle

With no option to turn back, the group continue their trek through Castle Oblivion
  • 54. Lore: Nobodies • Back with the Organization, Axel approaches NaminĂŠ and taunts her, saying he offers his sympathies “from the heart” • It is revealed that both the Organization members, and NaminĂŠ herself, are Nobodies • This was briefly mentioned in the final Ansem report from KH1, with Nobodies referred to as the “non-existent ones” the are in-between light and darkness • Nobodies are formed from the leftover body and soul of a person that remains when a heart is taken by the Heartless • Nobodies lack hearts entirely and supposedly don’t have any true emotions • Axel expresses some pity for NaminĂŠ as he states that Nobodies can never hope to be real people • The Organization members reconvene while Sora makes his way up the Castle, and the figure who brought SDG to Castle Oblivion is revealed…

  • 57. • SDG use the new World Card and enter a place none of them recognize; a place called Twilight Town • Sora recalls some memories with NaminĂŠ from when they were children • During a meteor shower, she became frightened and asked what they would do if one fell to the island, with Sora promising to knock it out of the sky if it did • NaminĂŠ then gave him her charm, and Sora promised to become her protector • Sora feels guilty for forgetting about her and his promise • The group continues to the gates of an old mansion which they don’t recognize • Vexen reappears asking Sora if he trusts his memories and encourages him to listen to his heart rather than the warped memories in his head, comparing Sora to “his” Riku
  • 58. • With Sora emerging the victor, he demands Vexen return Riku to normal, to which Vexen retorts that it is Riku’s fate to be swallowed by darkness • He warns Sora to stop chasing NaminĂŠ, lest he become a pawn of Marluxia • Before Sora can get any more answers, Vexen is struck by Axel’s chakram, who explains that he needs to eliminate Vexen before he tells Sora the truth • Despite Vexen begging to be spared, Axel proceeds to eliminate Vexen, making him the first of the Organization to fall • Axel returns to meet with Marluxia and Larxene, leaving a shocked Sora behind…
  • 59. A Grander Scheme • It is soon revealed that Marluxia and Larxene are working together as part of a coup to overthrow the leader of the Organization • Larxene explains that killing Vexen was a final test for Axel to join the traitors, to prove he had the ability to destroy an Organization member if required • The group decide it’s time for NaminĂŠ to meet with Sora, telling the girl to manipulate his memories to lead him closer before vanishing with Larxene • Axel is left to guard NaminĂŠ, but lets her know that he won’t stop her from leaving • A grateful NaminĂŠ leaves, with Axel hoping that Sora continues to make things interesting • Axel is enjoying himself enough that he begins to laugh, much to his surprise

  • 62. Lore: The Replica Program • Larxene appears again and reveals that the Riku Sora has met during his journey is in fact a Replica • The Replica Program was an experiment performed by Vexen in Castle Oblivion • The Riku Replica (Repliku) was a copy of Riku developed by Vexen and given fake memories by NaminĂŠ
  • 63. Malleable Memories • Sora also learns that NaminĂŠ has the unique ability to alter the memories of anyone connected to Sora, including Sora himself • This memory manipulation ability is the reason why the group lost memories as they went up the castle and got closer to NaminĂŠ • The memories Sora has of NaminĂŠ on Destiny Islands are also fake, with NaminĂŠ simply replacing Kairi in his mind
  • 64. Master Plan • Marluxia and Larxene had NaminĂŠ place these memories into Sora’s heart to manipulate him and use his power as a tool to use against the Organization as part of their coup • Larxene realizes that Axel let NaminĂŠ escape and is acting as a double agent sent to eliminate the actual traitors • Larxene engages the group, with Sora defending NaminĂŠ; even if the memory is false, the promise he made is still real to him • Donald and Goofy arrive, and the three work together to finally defeat Larxene

  • 68. • 70. • NaminĂŠ asks Sora if he wants to regain his memories, forgetting Castle Oblivion, or if he wants to keep his current memories and forget what happened before • Sora chooses to regain his memories, and while saddened, NaminĂŠ accepts his decision • To ensure the group know to thank her for her hard work, Jiminy ensures to write “Thank Naminé” in his journal to ensure they remember her, even when they wake up • Q: Why doesn’t he write down all of what happened instead of just two words? • A: Shut up, that’s why • Before entering the pod, Sora promises to be friends with her for real when he regains his memories and that even if he forgets, she will be in his heart • As the pod closes, Sora finally recalls Kairi after glancing after the now restored good luck charm, saying her name as he drifts into slumber • A little while after entering the pod, a lone figure enters the room… Re-chaining Memories

  • 91. • With Ansem defeated, Riku and Mickey leave Castle Oblivion • While Riku feels he can’t return home yet due to Ansem’s lingering presence, Mickey reassures him, saying that due to Riku’s example, he believes that darkness is not inherently evil and can be used for good • Riku calls him “Your Majesty”, but the experience has convinced the King that he and Riku are now friends, and tells the boy to simply call him Mickey • The two find themselves in the grassy field where SDG were at the start, and reach a crossroads with DiZ awaiting them • The man asks Riku if he is choosing the road to darkness or light, with Riku choosing the middle road instead • DiZ asks if it is the twilight road to nightfall, with Riku simply responding that it’s the road to dawn The Road to Dawn

  • 95. The story is not over…
  • 96. Summer Vacation, Day 1 • One year after the end of CoM, we begin KH2 as a boy named Roxas living in Twilight Town, who has been having dreams of Sora’s previous adventure • He hangs out with his friends Hayner, Pence and Olette at their usual spot, as the group makes plans on how to spend their last week of summer vacation • The group explains to Roxas that someone has been stealing things all over town, and the leader of the towns unofficial “Disciplinary Committee”, Seifer Almasy (of FFVIII fame) believes that they are to blame
  • 97. • The four soon discover that the theft even extends to words of the stolen items, before Roxas gets dizzy and passes out, hearing a voice saying that “his” heart is returning and will awaken soon • After Roxas recovers, the group confronts Seifer and his gang • Fuu (FFVIII) • Rai (FFVIII y’know) • Vivi (FFIX) • After a brief tussle with Seifer, Roxas sees the thief, a strange white figure that steals Pence’s camera, and chases after it Summer Vacation, Day 1
  • 98. Summer Vacation, Day 1 • Roxas pursues the creature to a nearby forest, reaching the gates of a strange manor • The white creature says that he has come to retrieve Roxas, referring to him as “his liege”. • Roxas tries to fight it off, but to no avail • The Keyblade suddenly appears in his hand, allowing him to destroy the thief, recovering both the photos it stole, as well as the word itself • With their names cleared, the three return to their usual spot eating Sea Salt Ice Cream, noticing that all of the stolen photos have Roxas in them • As Roxas heads home, he hears Sora’s voice
  • 99. Restoration at 12% • Meanwhile in a computer room, two figures continue to observe Roxas • DiZ, the man who helped Riku and Mickey in CoM, explains to another figure in a Black Cloak that the white creature was a lesser Nobody (a Dusk), and a servant of Organization XIII • Lesser Nobodies can’t tell the difference between data and the real thing, so it confused the photos with Roxas himself • DiZ notes that time is running out and that NaminĂŠ needs to hurry and finish restoring Sora’s memories
  • 100. Summer Vacation, Day 2 • After another dream of Sora, Roxas runs into the black cloaked figure shown with DiZ, who walks away without a word • Hayner suggests the group go to the beach, and the group take on part-time jobs to get some munny, • Hayner and Roxas also agree to participate in a sports tournament, called Struggle, in two days time, planning on splitting the prize if either of them win • Once gathered, Olette hands the munny pouch to Roxas before the black-cloaked figure appears, whispers something to Roxas, and steals the money • Roxas recalls that the figure, who none of them saw, asked him “Can you feel Sora?” before vanishing
  • 101. Restoration at 28% • Back in the computer room, DiZ reveals to the robed figure (who has the munny in hand), that the Twilight Town Roxas is inside is a simulation that DiZ created • DiZ had the robed man steal the munny he did not design a beach in the digital world, fearing that it would give the Organization another point to access the simulated world • DiZ tells the man to delete the digital munny pouch, saying that objects from the virtual world should not be used in the real world Think about it DiZ, infinite munny! Diamond hands to Kingdom Hearts itself!
  • 102. Summer Vacation, Day 3 • Roxas dreams of NaminĂŠ watching over Sora in his pod, and while asking who she is, he gets no answer • When running into Olette and Pence in town, they and the rest of the world freeze in place before NaminĂŠ appears • She greets Roxas, saying she wanted to meet him at least once, but before he can get any answers, she vanishes • Roxas wonders if she went to the mansion, and tries to head there before being chased out by some Nobodies • While luring them into a fight with Seifer and his gang, Roxas is unable to do anything • NaminĂŠ calls to Roxas, telling him to use the Keyblade as a bright flash appears
  • 103. Restoration at 48% • As Sora did in the last game, Roxas finds himself in a Dive to the Heart • Along one of the Stations of Awakening, Roxas encounters a giant Nobody called the Twilight Thorn • While he manages to defeat it, darkness begins to consume the area • Fortunately, NaminĂŠ is able to drag Roxas out, introducing herself to the boy • She asks Roxas if he remembers his “true name” but the cloaked figure seen with DiZ stops her, saying that Roxas shouldn’t learn the truth • Roxas is forcibly sent back to the virtual Twilight Town • DiZ confirms that the NaminĂŠ the figure stopped was the real one, and while upset, states that as long as NaminĂŠ restores Sora’s memory, is doesn’t matter what happens to Roxas
  • 104. Summer Vacation, Day 4 • Roxas, his friends and Seifer’s gang participate in a local Struggle tournament, with the final match set between Roxas and, unexpectedly, Vivi • After defeating Vivi, the world freezes again, with Vivi revealing he was a Nobody • After defeating the Nobodies with the Keyblade, more appear and another black- cloaked figure appears • The man lowers his hood, revealing himself as Axel • Axel speaks as though he knows Roxas, and remarks that the lesser Nobodies, called Dusks, seemingly won’t be able to do the job • Axel says that he’ll explain everything once he takes Roxas, but the world distorts again • Frustrated, Roxas throws the Keyblade (though it returns to his hand), and before engaging, Axel refers to Roxas as “No. XIII” implying he had a role in the Organization • DiZ soon interrupts, and after a brief struggle, the world returns to normal, with Roxas declared the champion after another brief match
  • 105. Summer Vacation, Day 4 • Roxas receives a trophy with four orbs attached, splitting them off and giving one to each of his friends when they meet on top of the clock tower • The group holds them against the setting sun, and as Roxas reaches for some ice cream, he slips and falls from the tower, calling out for NaminĂŠ • Meanwhile, on Destiny Islands, Kairi reminisces about her childhood, and while she can recall Riku, she has forgotten about Sora, vowing not to return to their island until he can remember his name • She hears Roxas call for NaminĂŠ, telling the boy that her name is Kairi • Roxas notes that she is the one “he” likes, telling her his name • Kairi asks for the name of her forgotten friend, when she hears Sora’s voice chastising her for forgetting his name, simply giving a hint that it “starts with an S” • Kairi heads to the beach, sending away a message in a bottle telling the boy that she will find him someday, finally recalling Sora’s name
  • 106. Restoration at 79% • The hooded figure returns to the computer room with Roxa’s blue trophy orb in tow • Placing it in the munny pouch, DiZ explains that meeting NaminĂŠ has connected Roxas and Kairi, which sped up Sora’s recovery • DiZ elaborates that NaminĂŠ was created differently from other Nobodies, and as we know from CoM, has the power to manipulate the memories of Sora and those he knows • The figure asks whose Nobody she is, with DiZ refusing, asking for his companion’s name instead • The cloaked man removes his hood and introduces himself as Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness from KH1, seemingly alive and well despite his earlier defeats • DiZ laughs, saying that it is an honour to meet him
  • 107. Where Nothing Gathers • In a meeting with the Organization, Axel has just been given the order to eliminate Roxas • Axel protests, but the group’s No. III reminds him that he has no problem with eliminating traitors (as several of the room’s empty thrones can attest to) • Axel insists that Roxas didn’t betray them out of his own free will, with No. III threatening him further, explaining that there are consequences for disobeying • The group's leader, No. I (aka the Superior mentioned in CoM) wordlessly threatens Axel with the possibility of turning into a Dusk for failure • Axel reluctantly complies, leaving for his mission
  • 108. Summer Vacation, Day 5 • Roxas reawakens the next day, and he and his friends try to investigate the “Seven Wonders of Twilight Town” • The majority of the leads seem to be false, except for a mysterious train that appears, and a seventh one at the mansion in the woods • Roxas heads in alone, after seeing NaminĂŠ there, and finds the girl’s room, covered in drawings of Sora’s adventures • She informs Roxas that he and Axel used to be best friends, and explains how she is putting Sora’s memories back together • She also tells Roxas that he holds half of Sora’s memories, and he needs them to awaken, gently telling the boy that he “wasn’t supposed to exist” • Roxas leaves, returning to the usual spot with his friends…
  • 109. Restoration at 79% • DiZ and Ansem meet again, with Ansem asking DiZ why he showed Roxas the train • DiZ replies that he felt bad for making the boy miss the beach • Ansem tells DiZ that his memories of Sora are returning, with Ansem confirming that the same phenomenon appears to be happening to all connected to the boy • Ansem asks DiZ what his motivation is, with DiZ replying that he is seeking revenge • DiZ also tells Ansem that once NaminĂŠ has served her purpose, she is to be disposed of
  • 110. Dreams of the Past • Roxas has dreams about the end of KH1 and the start of CoM, fading away as SDG enters Castle Oblivion • Roxas continues to dream of a strange beach, wearing one of the Organization’s cloaks, meeting a man who says he met with someone who looks a lot like Roxas • When he asks the man for his name the dream stops, continuing onto another scene in a rainy city • Roxas, wielding two Keyblades (Oathkeeper and Oblivion), fights several Neoshadow Heartless • He looks up to see an older, blindfolded Riku on a skyscraper • The two fight, with Roxas seemingly the victor; the dream fading as Riku asks why he has the Keyblade
  • 111. Summer Vacation, Day 5 • Roxas wakes up the next day, and when returning to his friends, find that they don’t notice him; his hand even phasing through as they run by • He is soon confronted by Axel and some Dusks. He pretends to remember Axel, but after failing to remember their Superior’s name, Axel reluctantly sends the Dusks after him • The world, including Axel, soon freezes, and DiZ appears telling Roxas to go to the mansion • After Roxas leaves, Axel gets free and accepts that the Roxas he knew is gone; the Flurry of Dancing Flames now committed to his mission
  • 112. Summer Vacation, Day 6 • Roxas heads to the mansion, returning to Naminé’s drawing room • He begins to regain more memories, seeing himself in the rainy city again, leaving the Organization behind • Axel wanted him to stay, but Roxas wanted to know why the Keyblade chose him • NaminĂŠ explains that Organization XIII is comprised of incomplete people trying to use the power of Kingdom Hearts to maek them whole • Before Roxas can inquire further, she vanishes and DiZ appears, telling Roxas that he is a Nobody • Ansem returns telling DiZ that they need to leave, but NaminĂŠ reappears, telling Roxas that Nobodies are half a person, and that he won’t disappear, but will be made whole • Before being taken away by DiZ, NaminĂŠ promises Roxas that the two will meet again, even if they don’t recognize each other Roxas! We will meet again.
  • 113. Summer Vacation, Day 6 • Roxas finds the digital version of the DiZ’s computer room in the basement, and more memories come flooding back • He recalls sitting in Organization XIII’s meeting room, along with all of the members killed at Castle Oblivion present as well • He remembers more of his escape and battle with Riku, revealing that Riku got a second wind and somehow defeated Roxas • The last thing Roxas recalls is DiZ and Ansem putting him in the simulated Twilight Town with a fake personality while NaminĂŠ worked on restoring Sora • While Ansem felt guilty about this, DiZ acted indifferent, saying that he is merely a Nobody and it is his fate • Roxas smashes the computer in a rage, proceeding to the next room
  • 114. Summer Vacation, Day 6 • In the next room, Roxas encounters Axel • While he reveals that he has recovered his memories for real, Axel says that it’s too late • Roxas summons Oathkeeper and Oblivion, and the two face off • Roxas defeats his friend and recalls that the reason Axel told him not to leave or he would be destroyed • Axel fades away, promising to see his friend in the next life

  • 116. Restoration Complete! • Sora reawakens, having grown older and taller during his slumber • After reuniting with Donald, Goofy and Jiminy, the group recall what happened previously; the defeat of Ansem, the return of Kairi to Destiny Islands and their continued search for Riku and King Mickey • As NaminĂŠ stated in CoM, the group has entirely forgotten about the events in Castle Oblivion, including the girl herself; the only trace left being a note in Jiminy’s Journal • The group ventures out to find out what strange new place they’ve ended up in, and resume their goal of finding Riku and the King
  • 117. • The group, in the real Twilight Town, meet Hayner, Pence and Olette who tell him that they saw a hooded figure matching the King’s description heading towards the train station • SDG head to the station, only to be ambushed by a group of Dusks • They are soon saved by King Mickey, who defeats the creatures, give Sora the munny pouch that Ansem took from Roxas in the data world, and instructs them to board the train to the Mysterious Tower • SDG bid farewell to Hayner’s group and although Sora has just met the three, he feels like he has known them for a long time and sheds a tear before boarding the train…
  • 118. • Meanwhile, it is soon revealed that Axel survived his battle with Roxas, but he was apprehended by Ansem soon afterwards • NaminĂŠ, who was also captured, learns that DiZ wants the two of them eliminated due to their nature as Nobodies, but Ansem decides to let them live • He explains that the two helped him at Castle Oblivion, and while they aren’t sure what he means, they take their leave using a Corridor of Darkness
  • 119. • Once the train stops, SDG are met by Pete, a troublemaker from Donald and Goofy’s home who was banished years ago • Pete unwittingly explains that he is a servant of Maleficent, and is currently seeking to turn the owner of the tower, Mickey’s former Master Yen Sid into a Heartless • Sora reveals that they were the ones who defeated Maleficent • The group scales the tower to meet the old master, leaving Pete in the dust Oh Maleficent? She’s toast! Gonna cry?
  • 120. • The group ascend the tower, defeating Heartless as they go • Eventually, the group finally meet Yen Sid himself who asks if King Mickey had given them their most recent instructions, explaining that they have another long journey ahead of them • Sora explains that he’s trying to simply find Riku and go home • Yen Sid cryptically says that everything in his journey is connected, with Sora himself as the key to it all: the key that will open the door to light You are the key that will open the door to light. Chosen wielder of the Keyblade!
  • 121. Lore: Organization XIII • Yen Sid explains that while Sora’s previous efforts prevented a lot of Heartless from entering the Realm of Light, darkness lurks within most hearts, preventing them from ever truly going away • Yen Sid further elaborates on the enemies the group will encounter on their journey • As before, both Pureblood and Emblem Heatless exist, and arise from the darkness within people’s hearts • Nobodies form if a person with a strong will becomes a Heartless; the empty body and soul left behind act with a will of its own; they “do not exist” • While Nobodies may seem to have emotions, they are apparently faking it, since they lack hearts • The strongest of the Nobodies, which take a human shape, formed Organization XIII (more like Organization VII at this point) and command lesser Nobodies • They seem to be working towards a common goal, but Yen Sid isn’t sure what that is • Mickey went off to fight against the Organization, and has been on the run ever since the events of CoM If the heart succumbs to Darkness The heart always becomes a heartless If the user had a strong will, the body and soul left behind may form a Nobody Real strong Nobodies keep a human shape, get nifty powers and join Organization XIII
  • 122. • Yen Sid directs Sora into a room with three fairies who give Sora magical garments to aid him on his journey through the use of Drive Forms • Flora, Fauna and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty • These forms give Sora a boost to his abilities based on his friends or past experiences Valor Wisdom Master Limit ANTI
  • 123. • With his new clothes in tow, Yen Sid returns the group’s Gummi Ship and informs them of an additional change to the worlds • With the events of KH1 returning the worlds to their initial states, the barriers once keeping the worlds separate are also restored, eliminating the Gummi Ship pathways between them • In response, worlds now have Gates, acting as connections between the worlds which may form paths to allow for travel from world to world when unlocked with the Keyblade • With this information, Sora, Donald and Goofy leave for their first world in their new adventure
  • 124. • As the trio and Yen Sid leave, the three fairies notice a raven on the window • The raven drops off a set of familiar looking robes, with the fairies remembering that they belonged to Maleficent • In the act of remembering her, Maleficent is able to seemingly resurrect herself • (we’ll get to the how and why wayyyyyy later) • She proceeds to cackle madly, accomplish nothing, and leave, which she will continue to do for the majority of the rest of series
  • 125. • SDG soon arrive in Hollow Bastion once again, this time finding that a town has been built • The trio soon encounters the Traverse Town group, now working to restore their former home world as the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee • To help control threats in the town, the committee has been able to make use of a computer-based security system able to defeat Heartless and Nobodies that enter the town • After making Sora an honourary member, Leon explains that they need Sora’s help both to take care of the lesser Nobodies, and a vast sea of Heartless within the valley below, near Maleficent’s current base of operations, Villain’s Vale • The remaining members of Organization XIII (except Axel) appear to taunt the group, hinting at his connection to Roxas before vanishing • Back in their meeting room, the Organization muse on the Keyblade wielder’s new adventure before moving out to pursue their unknown objective… I’m in the committee too! Me! Merlin! I even have a new volume of the Winnie the Pooh world Sora!!
  • 126. The Journey Finally Begins • As the group sets out from Hollow Bastion, SDG moves along through a series of Disney Worlds to accomplish their goals: 1. Find King Mickey and Riku 2. Open the Gates to travel between worlds 3. Find out what Organization XIII is planning and stop them • The group encounters a few members of the Organization on their early travels including…
  • 127. ORGANIZATION XIII: XALDIN Attribute: Wind Weapon: Lindworm III The Whirlwind Lancer 旋風の六槍 • Probably tied with Lexaeus for “most boring Organization member” • Cool fight later though • Super into Beauty and the Beast • Grand plan to gaslight the Beast into becoming a Heartless so he can add his respective Nobody to their ranks • Can’t even take a hostage correctly, smh
  • 128. ORGANIZATION XIII: DEMYX Attribute: Water Weapon: Arpeggio IX The Melodious Nocturne 夜想のしらべ • “Dance magic water dance!” • A lazy slacker who would rather play his sitar than do any actual work for the Organization • Initially sent to Olympus Coliseum to find Sora and try to awaken Roxas, but failed and fled after a brief battle • Definitely the odd man out of the still living Organization members by KH2, and has the most obvious personality aside from Axel
  • 129. • As SDG continues their journey, Pete has informed Maleficent that none of her Legion of Doom are interested in joining her for a second round, while also informing her of everything that happened since she died • The group briefly stops at Disney Castle upon the request of the Queen who tells them that they are under attack by Heartless • The Queen, escorted to the throne room, shows Sora an object called the Cornerstone of Light, a large orb with the power to repel darkness • The room is covered in thorns and Maleficent appears, letting the group know of her resurrection and her intent to corrupt the Cornerstone of Light and take the castle for herself
  • 130. • The group seek Merlin’s help who is able to create a door to the past, allowing them to head to the point in time where they can prevent the corruption of the castle, telling them to find the matching door that the enemy is using and close it • The group is transported to the past (now in black and white) and after a brief encounter with past Pete, continue to track down the Pete from their time • A series of flashbacks show how Pete, wishing to go back in time after being berated by Maleficent, found a door to Timeless River and was instructed to destroy the Cornerstone of Light • With the corruption gone, group continue on the next leg of their journey, while strange things begin to happen back on Destiny Islands…
  • 131. • We open on a scene of Pluto following Axel in the same city as Roxas’s flashbacks • While the dog is unable to follow, a second Corridor of Darkness appears after someone whistles to him • Kairi is beginning to wonder if she should try to find Sora herself, when Axel appears claiming to be an acquaintance of Sora’s and offers to take her to him • Pluto soon arrives and leads Kairi away; the two vanishing through another Corridor of Darkness before Axel can send his Dusks after them • While in a strange tunnel, the whistle is heard again and a bright light appears • While Kairi sees someone in an Organization cloak, the portal closed behind her before she can approach them • The two arrive in Twilight Town, encountering Hayner, Pence and Olette at their usual spot • Soon afterwards, SDG return to Twilight Town for more leads, but are soon attacked by more Nobodies led by…
  • 132. ORGANIZATION XIII: SAÏX Attribute: Moon Weapon: Lunatic VII The Lunar Diviner 月に舞う魔人 • Speaks softly, carries a big stick • Seems to have a particular interest in Axel • He informs SDG that Axel has betrayed the organization and is planning on turning Sora into a Heartless • Also says that the Organization doesn’t want Sora hurt, encouraging him to keep fighting the Heartless • Before leaving, SaĂŻx also hints at Riku’s whereabouts, but Sora is unable to ask for more
  • 133. • As thanks for fending off the Nobodies, Seifer gives Sora the real version of the struggle trophy before Hayner and Olette arrive • They inform Sora that a little while after Kairi arrived, Axel appeared and kidnapped her, despite the trios best efforts • Angered, Sora vows to get his friend back, and the group move on with their journey • At the Organization’s headquarters, SaĂŻx reports to his Superior, confirming that he told Sora to keep fighting the Heartless • The Superior explains that he wanted this message delivered to make Sora doubt himself, as if one of the Organization told him to keep doing it, it would make the boy hesitate, become upset and drive him to continue his goal as fast as possible Not my wrist, that’s my one weakness!
  • 134. • SDG return to Hollow Bastion, briefly encountering Cloud who is after Sephiroth, and asks the group to let him know if they encounter the swordsman • They note how more Heartless and Nobodies seem to be present in the area • Meeting up with the Restoration Committee, Cid and Aerith reveal that King Mickey is meeting with Leon, and the two have found Ansem’s lab and computer within the castle • Hopeful that they can get more information on the Organization, Sora and co. rush off to meet them, briefly encountering three strange fairies who work for Maleficent I’ll get him.
  • 135. • Sora, Donald and Goofy head inside the lab, with no signs of Leon or Mickey, but briefly encounter Tifa, who is looking for Cloud • The group also see a portrait of a young silver-haired man, who they assume is Ansem before he became the Heartless they are familiar with • Leon soon appears from a secret passage, bringing Sora to the computer, warning them not to damage it • Due to an interruption by Stitch, the group end up hitting the computer, and a voice announces that they are under arrest • Leon warns them of a laser on the other side of the room, which then fires at the three, who disappear.
  • 136. • Sora regains consciousness in a strange world, now wearing armour and seeing Donald and Goofy being taken away by several Heartless, led by Commander Sark, who captures Sora as well • The three are placed in a cell alongside Tron, who explains that the three are inside the computer itself, and the MCP has taken over • Tron helps the three escape through the use of a terminal, offering to help Tron defeat the MCP by finding his user and getting the password to something called the dataspace, referred to as the DTD • This would allow Tron to regain his functions, and the group may be able to access sensitive information relating to Ansem, the Heartless and Organization XIII • Tron reveals that his User is none other than Ansem the Wise • Before Sora can explain that Ansem is dead, the MCP finds them, forcing the trios hasty escape from the data world
  • 137. Say, fellas, did somebody mention the Door to Darkness? • Back outside the computer, the group discuss with Leon how to get the password if Ansem has died • While searching the lab, Tifa moves the portrait of Ansem revealing information which shows that the DTD Tron mentioned stands for “Door to Darkness”, though they still don’t have the password • Mickey arrives, telling them to keep quiet as the Organization may be listening • He believes that since the seven Princesses of Heart were required to open the real Door to Darkness, their names may be the password • Mickey tells them that they can use the information to find out where Ansem is, but before he can elaborate further, SDG head back into the datascape to help Tron
  • 138. • After escaping from Sark’s game grid, SDG reunite with Tron and explain that they returned to give him the password, with Tron asking why they didn’t just enter it from outside the computer • Regardless, the four make their way to the main security tower, and Tron enters the names of the seven Princesses of Heart • With access to the DTD, Tron’s full functions are restored, but also gave the MCP full access to the system • The MCP prepares to activate a self-destruct program for all of Hollow Bastion, but Tron is able to stall for time and the four are avert the destruction of the town by destroying a hostile program deployed by the MCP • Tron is pleased to have a fighting chance against the MCP, as it is what Ansem would want • Sora confesses that Ansem was their enemy, with Tron surprisingly saying that the man is his enemy as well, as he is the one who restored the MCP to the DTD system • He explains that there was a time when Ansem would never do such a thing, confusing Sora further • Tron tells the three that their names are the new password, wishing them well before returning them to the real world
  • 139. Mistaken Identity • SDG access the computer, searching for Riku, Kairi, Nobodies and Organization XIII, all yielding no results • Frustrated, Sora starts hitting random keys until a picture of an unknown man with blonde hair and orange eyes appears • Mickey enters the room, congratulating them, and tells them that the man in the photo is Ansem the Wise, much to the group’s confusion • Sora drags Mickey to the portrait of the silver-haired man, insisting that this in Ansem • Mickey proceeds to explain that their old foe was not the real Ansem, but merely an imposter who stole the identity of Ansem the Wise • The silver-haired man wrote most of the “Ansem” reports from KH1 under that name, before unleashing the Heartless on Hollow Bastion, and turning himself into the Heartless the trio fought and defeated in KH1 • While dismayed that all of that effort was put into defeating a fake, Mickey assures them that Ansem Seeker of Darkness (SoD) needed to be stopped regardless
  • 140. Lore: Secret Ansem report I • As SDG have progressed, they have found several reports written by the Ansem the Wise • The reports go into detail of how he was the leader of a place called Radiant Garden, who wanted to understand the nature of light and darkness to preserve the happiness of his people • He began with a psychological experiment with Xehanort, who has served Ansem ever since the latter found the amnesiac young man several years prior, hoping to recover the young man’s memories • Ansem soon grew concerned with Xehanort’s well-being and potentially superhuman abilities • His reports soon detail that it was a grave mistake, the project snowballing with the construction of a lab in the basement of his castle, while his apprentices began collecting subjects for experiments on the “darkness of the heart” without his permission or knowledge • Ansem demanded that his six apprentices cease their operations and destroy their research, falling into despair • He soon met with King Mickey, who told him of the Keyblade and found a friend and confidant in the King • Mickey suggested that Ansem review the data obtained in the basement lab, where Ansem soon discovered the “Ansem’s Reports” found by Sora and friends in KH1 • Ansem notes that the only one written by him was the very first, with all others written by Xehanort
