At Kinetic we look to inspire young ordinary people into the vast world
of sports, not only everyday common sports but many different sports
such as golf and fishing. In our current edition we cover golf, football
and fishing. We hope to entice young people into sports like these, and
others also. We believe sport is a key role in social life, and is helpful in
everyday life, not only the skill of the sport itself but its key social skills
to. It brings a sense of competition to life which is needed to succeed,
also it can teach you the importance of patience ,practice, teamwork
and most importantly it provides skills for communication. We hope
that our magazine will become a sort of role model for the dreams of
young children today. Not only sport but we hope it inspires people to
follow their dreams whether it is sport or not.
3. What’s it about
From the previous slide you can probably gather that we hope to
produce a sport related magazine aimed primarily at young people
aged 10-18. We believe this to be the age where we can make the most
influence in their life, and with the most successful effects. We like to
cover a wide variety of sports, these range from fishing to football. We
like to keep with some of the most popular sports as this will relate to
many more readers than the others will, but the other not so common
sports we believe are essential. This is because we believe them to be
key to our message and one of the things that is unique and special
about us. We hope it makes everyone feel special.
4. Costs
As we all know business and magazines cost money we hope to guarantee your
investment by showing a good concept but also the knowledge and skills needed to run a
business.
Paper: We like to use glossy paper to keep the magazine looking professional, we know this
is quite expensive but we feel it is needed and have found a cheap supplier. £2.89 per 100
sheets with discount for bulk orders. So with roughly 16 pages per edition it is
Ink: Like all things ink has risen steeply in price due to inflation, but we still have contacts
and have found relatively cheap ink at £25.99 per 10,000 pages again with discounts for
bulk orders.
Celebrity Articles/Endorsements: To increase awareness and popularity we have invested in
articles with celebrities and endorsements by various celebrities these total £2,500 which
we are very confident that we will make that money back after the first month.
Design: To keep the magazine professional and up to date we have the help of some top
designers, we pay them £100 after each new edition which is below the average
expenditure of a magazine for designers.

87% of all surveyed said they would enjoy learning about new sports
32% of these say that football can get boring if there is nothing else to
enjoy sports wise.

54% of those surveyed said they would like to try a new unusual sport.
6. Money
If we have costs we must have a source of income. This is provided through two
main ways these are; advertising and sales. We sell each magazine at £1.99 That is a
mark up We expect to sell 8,000 on our first year (new editions released quarterly so
2,000 copies per edition). From this there is a income of £15,920 (if all stock sold)
We expect around 2-6 adverts per edition at either full page, half page or quarter
page. Companies can also pay slightly more to have the advert feature on a specific
page such as the back cover. We also offer discounts for longer commitments Full
Pages are £150 over 12 months which is 4 editions. Half pages are £85 over the same
amount of time. Quarter pages are £15 over 3 months which is 1 edition. To feature
on a specific page in the magazine (excluding back cover) is £35 extra, and the back
being £49 extra. The minimum we expect to see (based on interest advertisers are
showing to us) is 1 full page back cover article, 1 half page on a specific page and 2
quarter pages one of which for 12 months for £50 (longer commitment discount)
the other for 3 months. This brings a minimum total of £379 and a maximum (again
based on the same interest) of 1 full page back cover, 1 full page on a specific page, 1
half page on a specific page, 1 half page, 1 quarter page for 12 months at £50 (longer
commitment discount) and one quarter page at 15 (1 edition). This brings a total of
£649.

Paper:
16 pages (average per magazine) so 1 magazine costs 47p in paper
8,000 is £3,699.20
Ink: 16 pages so 1 magazine costs 4p in ink
8,000 is £320 in ink
Celebrity is 2,500 per year
Design is £100 per edition

Total cost for 1st year is £6,919
8. Profit and Mark Up
Mark Up:
The cost for each magazine is £0.82 and the sale is £1.99 this gives a mark
up of 243% which is very high compared to other companies averages this
almost guarantees profits even if we undersell.
Profit:
Per magazine: £1.17 (excluding money gained through adverts)
With adverts: £1.22 profit
Per edition (if sell three quarters of stock) (with adverts): £1830
Per year (if sell three quarters of stock) (with adverts): £7320
As you can see we predict a minimum profit of £7320 in the first year.
The second year we plan to expand to12,00 copies selling five sixths of our
stock bringing a profit of £12,200 without accounting for more adverts, or
celebrity endorsements. So it is expected to be around £11,500. We hope to
expand every year.
9. Why should you invest
We believe in our message but obviously your looking for a safe investment
with a payback over a short period of time. With continual money coming
through. Our costs and profits clearly show that we are safe. You may be
thinking why do we need an investment of a low value to enable the launch
of the magazine, well the truth is one cost we didn’t mention is marketing.
To raise awareness, popularity and sincerity with the reader we would like
to invest money into TV and online adverts. We are asking for £8,000.
£1,750 is intended to go towards the costs indicated with the other £6,250
intended for adverts. We believe you should invest as we have had many
responses from companies wanting to advertise, we have raised a fairly
large budget and already invested in celebrity endorsements etc. Our
recent research and surveys show that people would be interested in
reading about new and different sports as well as their beloved football etc.
We believe that we have the ability and knowledge to run the business
securely and provide not only us but you as well substantial profits.
