MontanaLibrary2Go for Kindles
Note: If you have a Kindle Touch, Paperwhite, or Voyage, you will search for books via computer and then they will be trans-
ferred wirelessly to your device. If you have a Kindle Fire, you can either search via computer, or do this process directly from
your device browser.
1. Go to www.MontanaLibrary2Go.org and click on the “Sign In” link.
2. Select the library of the card you are using. If you are using a Polson card, select North
Lake County Library from the dropdown list.
3. Enter your full library card number with NO spaces, and then click the Sign In button.
4. You are now ready to find & download books to your Kindle! This is the page you will see
after you log in to the site.
These are the e-book selection menus. You
can select from a specific genre such as
mystery, or chose to browse all the fiction
or non-fiction available.
The site will also suggest titles to you based
on your browsing history.
If you keep scrolling down the page, you
will see Top eBooks, Top audiobooks, Rec-
ommendations from MTLib2Go, and re-
cently returned item menus.
A title with a black book means that item is
available to check out.
A title with a grey book is out, but you are
able to place a hold just like you would on a
regular book!
NOTE: You are able to check out 5 books
at a time per card.
5. Filtering your results. You will notice as you use the site, that you will get thousands of
results! Here is how to filter your results so that you aren’t search through pages and pages
of titles.
If I search “All Fiction,” I get 6,469 results, and the entire first page is made up of titles that are
already checked out. It is easy to search so you only see titles that are available for your device.
In the filter bar, select “Available Now” to
only see titles available to borrow.
Then select “Kindle Book” as your format. Other
formats will not work on your device!
You can also select what genre you would
like to read. For example, here I have se-
lected “Mystery”
As you search, the site will automatically update your results.
6. Once you have gone through your results and found a title you are interested in, you can
either check the book out, or see more information about the title. Simply click the book cover
for more information! You can also hover over the book cover with your mouse for information.
From this page you can borrow the book, add it to your wish list, or share on your social media.
The search results have gone from over 6,000 to 438 once the filters have been applied, making
it much easier to find something you would like to read.
To borrow, click this button!
Not ready to borrow? Add to your
wishlist so you can find it later.
Really like it? Click “Buy it Now” to
purchase on iTunes.
You will also see title suggestions based
on the book you have chosen.
Here is a synopsis of the book, and some-
times a sample chapter.
If a book you would like to read is not available, you can place a hold just like you would do for
a regular print book.
Click on the title you would like to place the hold on.
You can see that there are 16
copies of this book available,
with 151 patrons waiting for it!
Click the “Place a Hold” button to place a hold on the title.
Fill in your email address and click “place
a hold” You will receive an email when
the book is available for you to
download.
NOTE: You are able to place
holds on 10 books at a time.
7. Checking Out
Once you have clicked the green “Borrow” button, you will be taken to your bookshelf. This is
where you will see titles you have checked out. If you change your mind about a book, you
can select “Return Title” to return the book to the “shelf”. This only works before you down-
Select “Download”. You will then be
prompted for the format of the book.
Make sure you select KINDLE BOOK, other-
wise you won’t be able to read the book
on your Kindle.
Then click on “Confirm & Download”. You will be
automatically taken Amazon.com to complete
the borrowing process.
8. On Amazon, you will do the book download process.
1 Select “Get Library Book”. If you are not logged in to your Amazon.com account, you will
be prompted to do so.
2 On the “Deliver to:” menu, make sure you are selecting the correct device, for example, if
you have two Kindles you want to make sure the book goes to the correct one.
3 You book will expire in 14 days. You will get a reminder on your device when your due date
is close. Once expired, your book will be returned automatically.
Congratulations! You have borrowed and downloaded a book to your Kindle! You do not
have to do anything else once you are transferred to this page. Your book will be sent to your
device the next time you have an active WiFi connection. Your book will NOT download via
the Amazon 3G service.
9. Returning your book: Book returns are done via your Amazon.com account. Log in to your
account and select “Manage Your Content & Devices” from the account menu.
You will see a list of all the books you have borrowed for your
device, as well as the date you borrowed them.
Click the title you want
to return--a pop-up box
will appear.
Select “return this book” or whatever other option you would
like. If your book didn’t appear on your Kindle, you can have it
redelivered. Or purchase it if you really liked it!
This box will pop up. Click “Yes” to return your book! Sometimes
there is a lag between returning your book on Amazon & when it
is off your Montanalibrary2go account, so don’t panic if it doesn’t
happen instantly! You should get an email notification about your
return.
10. Renewing your Items. Just like a regular library book, you can renew your item as long as
no one is waiting for it. Log in to your MontanaLibrary2Go account and select “Account” and
then “Bookshelf” from the next screen. This will be active within 3 days of your item’s due
date.
If renewable, a “renew item” box will be next
to your title. Simply click it to renew. If the
item has holds, you will not see this box.
Other helpful Information
MENU: This will open and close the large green menu list on the top of the
page.
ACCOUNT: This will take you to your account page
HELP: This will take you to the Overdrive Help pages
SEARCH: You can search for titles and authors here. It is picky about
spelling!
Selecting Account will bring you first to your “Bookshelf”. This is where you
check-out and renew your titles, as well as download them again if needed.
You can also see how many items you have
checked out, how many wish list items are
available, and your checkout limit!
Selecting Holds will bring you to your Holds Screen. Here you can see where you are in the
waiting list, cancel or suspend a hold, and change the email where notifications would be
sent.
The Lists menu will bring you to your Wish List, titles you have rated,
recommendations, etc…
Last, but not least, is the settings menu. From here you can adjust your borrowing time, as
well as your display options.
If you need more help with using your Kindle, please feel free to call the library for an
individual appointment with our Technology Trainer.
You can also find help on the
MontanaLibrary2Go Help menu by
clicking the question mark on the top of
your screen! This is useful for finding
out what software you would need to
read or listen to a particular book
format.
