Students in Mrs. Wernig's class created digital story slideshows based on popular children's books to present during a Read Across America celebration. The slideshows included narration and illustrations for books such as The Grouchy Ladybug, The Rainbow Fish, and Little Cloud. The students learned skills in recording narration, using painting and animation tools, and inserting images from the internet to create their digital stories in PowerPoint.

22. THE RAINBOW FISH BY MARCUS PFISTER Slide show by Daniel (researcher) CJ (animator) Ryan (voiceover) To make these stories in PowerPoint, we learned how to record, use the Paint Tools, Kid Pix, scanners and copy/paste from the Internet.

23. The Rainbow Fish was the most beautiful fish in the sea. I’m too beautiful, he thought.

24. But he never played with the other fish.

25. Once, a little blue fish asked for one of his shining scales, but the Rainbow Fish just laughed.

26. “ Never!” he said. After that, the other fish swam away from him. The Rainbow Fish was all alone.

27. He went to the starfish for help. “ Why doesn’t anybody like me? He asked “ Go ask the octopus,” said the starfish. “She is very wise.”

28. The octopus said, “Give away your shining scales. You won’t be as beautiful, but you will have friends.” “ I can’t do that!” cried the Rainbow Fish

29. Suddenly the little blue fish was back. “Please,” he said. “Could I have just one scale?” Well, the Rainbow Fish thought, maybe just one tiny little scale.

30. The little blue fish was so pleased, it make the Rainbow fish feel happy

31. Soon all the fish came

32. The Rainbow Fish gave away his scales, one by one. Finally he had only one shining scale left.

33. But now… Rainbow Fish was no longer alone

34. He had friends. He swam off to play with his friends and he was the happiest fish in the sea.

37. The clouds drifted slowly across the sky. Little Cloud trailed behind.

38. The clouds pushed upward and away. Little Cloud pushed downward and touched the tops of the houses and trees.

39. The clouds moved out of sight. Little Cloud changed into a giant cloud.

40. Little Cloud changed into a sheep. Sheep and clouds sometimes look alike.

41. Little Cloud changed into an airplane. Little Cloud often saw airplanes flying though the clouds.

42. Little Cloud changed into a shark. Little cloud once saw a shark through the waves of the ocean.

43. Little Cloud changed into two trees. Little Cloud likes the way trees never moved and stayed in one place.

44. Little Cloud changed into a rabbit. Little Cloud loved to watch rabbits dash across the meadows.

45. Little Cloud changed into a hat. Because…

47. The other clouds drifted back. They huddled close together. “Little Cloud, Little Cloud, they called. “Come back.” Little Cloud drifted toward the clouds.
