1. Kids Immunity
As we know homoeopathy is great for treating a myriad of acute
complaints however there is also great benefit in occasional doses of the
constitutional remedy to support your child on a deeper level especially
during times of rapid growth,
development and change including
change of season. Along with dietary and
nutritional adjustments the constitutional
remedy acts almost like a tonic and helps
maintain wellness and a healthy, vitality
and zest for life.
Some well known remedies include:
Calc carb: Supports growth and calcium metabolism. Frequent colds and
swollen glands in stocky, stubborn children especially at times of change
and rapid growth. They may be prone to tantrums, nightmares and have
many fears.
Calc phos: Poor appetite, tired, whingy, bored and discontented –
especially when these symptoms are associated with times of rapid
growth. Headaches, tummy aches and growing pains. Calc phos helps
assimilation of nutrients and therefore growth, digestion, glandular
swellings and the like.
Silica: Suits delicate children made tired, nervous and stubborn by
schoolwork and in little ones by slow, difficult teething. Low resistance to
colds.
And when what seems like the indicated remedy doesn’t act consider
what else may be going on. Examples below:
Chamomilla: Persistent, irritating dry tickling cough especially during
sleep and associated with teething. The child is angry, irritable and can’t
be pleased.
Ignatia: Frequent colds that won’t resolve may be related to an underlying

2. emotional upset such as dad being away, mum starting work again,
changing schools, losing friends or a family grief.
In cooler months we recommend Anas barb as it resonates with most
classic cold and flu symptoms, vulnerable children can take it fortnightly or
monthly depending on susceptibility. At the very first sign of cold
symptoms give a dose of Anas barb and follow it with two or three doses
of the best-indicated remedy based on the symptoms. As a rule of thumb
use Aconite for sudden onset, Gelsemium for slow onset and Ferrum
phos for generally off colour with no other clear symptoms.
If despite your best efforts with home prescribing symptoms linger or recur
your homoeopath can prescribe a deeper acting remedy to improve your
child’s overall resistance to viruses, reducing the number of and recovery
rate from infections.
