Teens and Hormones
The myriad of change during teenage years coupled with
erratic hormone levels can result in a very unsettling feeling
of instability and loss of control. Homoeopathic remedies
can be like a miracle in smoothing
and regulating teen hormones.
Firstly these three tonic
remedies are invaluable to
support structure and change and
when indicated can be used twice daily for a week or two at
a time. They can be used in conjunction with specific
remedies such as those listed.
Calc phos: Restless, bored and easily discontented – they
can roam from one activity to another and not be able to
settle. This is an important remedy for growth and often is
needed during teenage years especially if growing tall
rapidly and prone to headaches, stomach ache or leg pains.
Ferrum phos: Especially helpful for anaemic teens who are
pale and fatigue easily.
Kali phos: They feel mentally and physically weak and
tired, and are very emotional about the changes that they
are going through. Kali phos is reputed to have a tonic
action on the nerves so can be great for jittery teens.

2. Remember to consider the whole picture when choosing a
remedy. For instance dietary cravings can be an important
clue e.g. Calc phos and Nat mur crave salty foods,
Lycopodium craves sweet and Sulphur loves junk food.
Chamomilla: Young people who are short tempered,
oversensitive, impatient and intolerant. They are hard to
please and always moaning.
Nat mur: Tends to be closed, vulnerable, sad and resentful.
They want to be left alone and stew on grievances. Prone to
fluid retention especially pre-menstrually.
Nux vomica: Useful for young people who become
agitated, irritable and short tempered when under pressure.
There is a tendency to addictive behaviour and dependency
on stimulants such as coffee, soft drinks and alcohol.
Pulsatilla: This teen is weepy, despondent, changeable
and cries at the least thing. They crave sympathy and
attention, especially pre-menstrually.
Sepia: Is very moody, irritable and wants to be left alone.
They can be very sarcastic especially pre-menstrually.
