Duties:
• participates in all operation on the Rig floor and around the wall head.,
• Tripping in and out of the hole.
• Maintaining and cleaning handling tools.
• Checking, cleaning and maintaining rig floor drilling equipment.
• Assisting services companies specialists in testing and running casing,
tubing cementation and wire-line operations as assigned.
• participates in locating such items as drilling tools, drill pipe, casing and
tubing to or from the drill floor, derrick, cantilever and main decks using
appropriate winches as necessary, in Co-ordination with others drilling
personnel.
3. • connects or disconnects and participates as part of a team in racking sections
of drill pipes, casing tubing and drill collars using variety of hand-tools,
tongs, air winch, ropes and cat head dopes threads to ensure smooth, and
close fit, liaising, closely with others, such as driller, assistant driller-man to
ensure good co-ordination of efforts.
• Stacks drill pipes, casing and tubing on pipe racks in numerical order on the
main and cantilever deck when requested by acting as slinger (attaching
chains, guiding load and directing crane operator.) fits retainers to eliminate
rolling or movement of items.
• Flanges up blow- out preventers, wellhead equipment and test equipment
under supervision to secure the well bore as requested and directed using
hand-tools. when such work is undertaken on the jacket, operates ari
winches.
• Assists Assistant driller and derrick-man in overhauling od pumps, tools and
equipment by participating with them in changing liners, pistons, valves up
associated areas after maintenance or repair work. also participates, as part
of his development, in tripping, undertaking work on the derrick and other
related duties.
• Loads offloads materials (including chemicals but excluding food stuff)
from helicopters, tools and equipment manually or by assisting in the
slinging.
• Maintains drilling tools and tongs elevators, slips equipment such as shale
shaker, blow out preventors, mud pits, and drilling floor equipment in a
clean and good condition performs wire brushing and painting when
requested. cleans drill floor (including mud ditch immediately below the
drilling floor) and cantilever deck and operating pressure cleaning gun or
water hose.
• Assist in the rig move preparation and setting up drill floor, cantilever and
main deck by lashing movable securely, disconnecting and securing lines
and reposition equipment to avoid hazard or damage to the rig.
• Observes and applies established safety regulations in all respects, including
participation in the fire fighting H2S and explosive Gas evacuation drill,
4. operates, fire fighting equipment as directed in the event of fire to minimize
loss.
• Assists in various drilling related duties such as mixing mud, emptying
chemicals and loss circulation materials into hopper and adding chemicals to
mud tank as requested. assists in cementing, acidizing and moving fluids to
the required area by connecting / disconnecting lines and opening/ closing
valves in the pump room or on drilling floors as requested.
• Removes thread protectors from tubular( drill pipes, casings and production
strings) and "drifts" for symmetry by threading rope, pulling "drifter"
through casing and advising supervisor of any abnormalities. cleans and
greases threads for protection and stows protectors for later return to shore.
assists in measuring tubular to tallies.
• Ensures that thread protectors are always placed on drill pipe, drill collars
and crossovers that are being hoisted or stored.
• Assembles and dismantles fishing tools, testing, coring and well head
equipment when instructed using hand tools. this includes physically
carrying elements to the assembly.
• Takes measurements of mud weight and viscosity and pots reading clearly
on the blackboard visible to driller from the drill floor thus assisting him in
controlling well pressure during drilling/ work over operations.
• Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned, such as lubricating
drilling equipment within established schedule using grease-gun and
advising supervisor of tools, machinery and equipment requiring repair or
replacement, keeping drilling equipment, keeping equipment and working
areas tidy and orderly.
