My personal journey with Node.js has included convincing a few teams to take a bet on this technology, and this community. Abstract: MongoDB has always offered application developers a flexible schema. However, in any organization, a number of factors ranging from risk mitigation to policy may drive the need to enforce a more rigid schema. This feature is a boon to developer productivity, enabling applications to evolve naturally with changing requirements without the need to revisit the schema designs at multiple layers of the stack. In this talk, I will provide an overview of MongoDB's implementation of JSON Schema, an industry standard for data validation. I will also outline how teams can introduce JSON schema validation at just the right time in the lifecycle of their applications, balancing the benefits of developer productivity with requirements for strict schema enforcement.

Introducing perf budgets on CI with puppeteer - perf.now()

Ethereum contracts are small pieces of code that can be deployed to the Ethereum blockchain to execute autonomously. They are written in the Solidity language and can store and transfer value and data. To develop contracts, they must be compiled from Solidity to bytecode, deployed to the blockchain, and can then be interacted with by users via transactions that call functions defined in the contract's application binary interface (ABI). Examples of suitable contracts include tokens, crowdfunding, voting systems, and decentralized autonomous organizations.

Comet from JavaOne 2008
Comet allows for bidirectional communication between server and client by allowing long-lived HTTP connections. This overcomes limitations of traditional Ajax which uses polling. Comet enables new types of highly interactive web applications such as collaborative editing and streaming financial data. It works by having the client leave an HTTP request open to the server instead of closing after each response. The server can then push updates to the client without needing the client to poll repeatedly. There are different Comet architectures and techniques for implementing it on both the client-side, such as long polling and forever frames, and server-side. While not fully standardized, Comet provides a way to build real-time web applications today despite some browser limitations.

- 18. All I need to do is write some code that creates an HTTP request with a very long timeout and enable chunked transfer encoding. Then I’ll use another HTTP connection to send data. Then I’ll just have to write some code in C# down at the HttpHandler level that manages the state between these two connections, and then proxies the data over to an active VNC session living on another machine. Oh and I guess I’ll have to handle all the connection resets, and provide a half decent API so other developers on the team can actually use this thing.

- Since coming out in 2009, Node.js has had a profound impact on my career. It’s shaped how I think about technology, and it’s changed the way I think about open source communities. This is a bit of a different talk than the ones that I’m used to giving. I want to share my personal story with node.js - how we got started using it on my first team, and how it’s managed to become a key part of several companies where I’ve worked over the last few years.
