Kerala is a state in India known for its natural beauty, backwaters, and prominence as a tourism destination. It is famous for eco-tourism and ayurvedic tourism. In 2008, tourism brought in $2.86 billion for Kerala's economy and provided 8% of employment. The tourism department markets Kerala as a brand and considers both international and domestic visitors. It promotes destinations through various media and events to stimulate tourism development and packages experiences around local cuisine, ayurveda, and attractions.
