HISTORY
Since I was a child, performing has always been a huge part of my
life. My parents always knew they had their hands full with me.
See, I haven’t
changed all that much.
SO YEAH, I WAS QUITE
THE CHARACTER…
However, that was before I knew that
singing and music in general would
become my real passion. Before I
even began taking voice lessons, I
started making videos of me singing
cover songs on YouTube, starting back
in 2010. Some were embarrassing,
and they weren’t all that great, but you
got to start somewhere.

ANY WAY, WITH THE CONTE NT I’ VE
L E ARNE D IN SOCIAL ME DIA FOR THE
ARTS….
I feel much more equipped in terms of social media networks. The Internet is SO important
into today’s day and age when it comes to promoting yourself. So here are my links to the
media sites I am focusing on for this project.

FACEBOOK
My Facebook “Fan page” has been up and running for a year or so now. I use it to
keep everyone updated on when I’m recording, songs, performances, modeling
shoots and videos. I have been considering lately possibly buying a Facebook Ad for
more exposure to the page itself, but I find that updating often keeps fans interested
in the old fashioned way (without paying for fans). I plan to expand my Facebook
page popularity by tracking what fans like the most and view the most, and also
posting daily updates all summer since I will be in production of my next song and
future projects. My goal is to get over 400 likes on my page. I am hoping with new
updates, videos and pictures and possibly an ad I can achieve this by the end of the
summer.
TWITTER
Twitter is after all, the way to know what your favorite
celebrities are up to all the time. My goal for my Twitter is
of course to get a bigger following. I find that Twitter is a
great way to connect with others in the industry, and
update fans on new projects. I also love Twitter because
it is personal. As an artist it’s important to have a specific
persona that fans know you as. I always “tweet” honestly.
I want my fans to know my personality and the real me! I
plan to update my Twitter a lot more often with news and
how I’m doing when I’m in the studio this summer, and
also connect on a more personal level with other
musicians. I will get more followers by following others
and re-tweeting.
@kellbellmccarth
I have been using YouTube since 2010, but I
became a lot more active in the past year with
making covers and keeping up with it. I’ve actually
gained a bit of a following already! I plan to keep
making cover songs as well as posting my
originals on my channel as well. I also play on
collaborating with my friend who plays guitar and
has a recording studio to make covers together.
Covers are a great way to get your face out there
as a performer, as well as your personality and
talent.
YOUTUBE
So far, my most successful YouTube cover was a
cover I did of “How to be a Heartbreaker” by
Marina and the Diamonds. It has over 1,000
views which is more than my other covers. I
believe this may be because of the song choice.
It is a song that is fairly popular, but not
mainstream enough that it is covered by
thousands of people on YouTube. I feel that
following in the pattern of covering a song that
isn’t overplayed or heard actually may draw more
attention to the cover itself.
Instagram is my favorite social network
besides Facebook. I have been
addicted to it since last summer, and
I’ve built a bit of a following on it. Not
only is it fun, but its personal. It’s like
Twitter but through pictures. In terms of
promoting myself, I plan to use
Instagram to take behind then scenes
pictures of recording my music, writing
and performing.
INSTAGRAM
I also plan to follow other musicians
on Instagram. Most importantly I plan
to properly document my life and all
the amazing people in it. Part of my
image is that I am real and I want
people to see the real me through
what I post. It’s always the best to
have fans who love you for being
you!
TUMBLR
(BLOG)
My Tumblr blog is my way of documenting myself as an
artist. I use it to write about my experiences and my
inspirations and ideas. I have been busy this semester and
slacked a bit on the blogging, but I always keep it updated
with plenty of behind the scenes photos. I plan to become
more disciplined with updating and blogging more. I tend to
keep my blog a bit more personal. It is a place to put my
ideas and feelings but also write my story. I plan to expand
my following on my blog and update more often.
I think Pinterest is a fun site. It can get even a
little addicting. Personally, I use Pinterest as a
source of inspiration. I have a photo-shoot idea
board I made so whenever I find a look that
inspires me I save it there. Pinterest really has
helped me build my image as an artist, which is
very important for recording artists in the
industry. I get inspired from all of the fashions
on the site and artistic make up, and I’ve
definitely used some of them to inspire my
photo-shoot for the release of “The Warrior”.

REVERBNATION
Reverbnation isn’t a site we specifically covered in class, but I found it very
useful in promoting my music. It is an amazing site for musicians to create a
page, upload songs, videos, pictures and even blog. It shows your rank among
other artists from your local area to world-wide! I was extremely excited when I
discovered that I was # 1 on the local Indie charts! I have been maintaining a #
2 spot now for the past few months, and my fan base keeps increasing. I’ve
met other local artists on the website who I have discussed collaborating with. I
plan to upload my next song I record to Reverbnation, and reach out to more
artist and fans and to keep growing in popularity.
IN CONCLUSION…
I believe this class has opened my eyes to how important Social Media is for artists
of any kind. It is possible in todays day and age to become famous on YouTube!
Everything so much easier, and what it takes is promoting yourself in the rights ways
and making it a routine habit. This summer (and from now on) I plan to use what I’ve
learned in this class about tracking your popularity and followers to build my
following as an artist. I’ve learned how important it is to promote your story on all
kinds of networks and not just one. It is a lot more effective and builds a much bigger
following and I plan to keep up with my plan until I reach my goals. Thanks to this
class I feel more educated and motivated than ever to promote myself in the most
effective ways and works towards my dreams!
IT JUST TAKES THAT FIRST
STEP…
And once you
take it, you can go
anywhere.
