Postdoctoral Fellow in Regenerative Medicine
Qualifications: The Translational Glycomaterials Laboratory at The University of Georgia (UGA)
is seeking to recruit a talented postdoctoral fellow starting March-April 2015. The ideal candidate
will have either an MD/Ph.D, DVM/Ph.D, or a Ph.D in Materials Science, Biomedical
Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology,
Chemistry/Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field with a strong interdisciplinary background
and training in translational research. A strong publication record is a must. Animal work
experience with rodent or large animal models is greatly desired.
Environment: UGA is ranked 20th among top public universities in the US. It is the first chartered
state university in the US, founded in 1785, and is located on a 759 acre campus in picturesque
Athens, Georgia. UGA is located 60 miles from Atlanta, and offers great opportunities for
translational clinical research in collaboration with Georgia Institute of Technology, and Emory
University School of Medicine.

Description: The incumbent will be working in a fast-paced, and highly interdisciplinary area of
research, and will be expected to: work independently with minimal supervision, think outside
the box, take initiative and demonstrate risk taking ability, and possess excellent time-
management skills. Responsibilities will include:
The development and characterization of novel biomaterial and glycomaterial composites for
nerve repair and regeneration, and neural interfacing applications
Use of techniques such as soft lithography, rheology, SEM, AFM, SPR, HPLC, etc.
Biochemical and molecular biological characterization of cells and tissues interacting with
engineered scaffolds and materials
Development of animal models in consultation with veterinary surgeons
Tissue preparation, histology, and image analysis using commercial image processing
software or MATLAB image processing toolbox
Data analysis and preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals
Assisting the PI in overseeing laboratory activities and in supervising graduate and
undergraduate students.
