Intel is doing things in a new way. This talk will focus on the inspiring development of enabling immersive solutions with the consumer in mind. We will discuss the end user and ecosystem needs across sports and shopping, and how we are working to solve those. We will touch on the technologies ranging from capture and digitization of physical content to end user interaction, and how Intel has taken a user centric approach to enable experiences that are scalable enough to transform industries.
Augmented World Expo (AWE) is back for its seventh year in our largest conference and expo featuring technologies giving us superpowers: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and wearable tech. Join over 4,000 attendees from all over the world including a mix of CEOs, CTOs, designers, developers, creative agencies, futurists, analysts, investors, and top press in a fantastic opportunity to learn, inspire, partner, and experience first hand the most exciting industry of our times. 10. AWE Immersive Sports & Shopping
• Intro on world is changing and Intel is investing. Cite
sports and shopping as an example
• Why: User needs, $$#s
• What: Intel’s efforts in capturing, rendering and
interactions for both sports and shopping (hardware
optimization on server, client,replay, standards,
partnerships, etc)
• Show vision of experience in shopping and sports, and
importance of End user first approach
11. • Main message:
– We are in a new era of being able to view and interact with
experiences in way we haven’t before to either assist them
or immerse them in experiences they wouldn’t have access
to from wherever they are.
– As we know there is high level of process:
Capture, Render, Interact
-Intel is investing in all 3 and in a new way by putting end
users first, and I want to talk about two specific examples:
sports and shopping
12. • So why sports and shopping?
• We took a look at what people do every day with
or without PCs, and of course that breaks down
into things like home maintenance, connecting
with people, watching medai/entertainment,
shopping, cooking, working, etc.
• Quote the industry # for sports and shopping
here and user needs
13. What are we doing?
• On the capture side, we have invested quite heavily
with either partners or acquisitions;
– Replay for sports capture content
– Realsense for capturing of bodies and objects with ISVs
– We’ve started a standards body for clothes and bodies
• Our servers and clients have a big play in the
digitization & rendering of the content
• Our client hardware helps users view the content with
real time latencies and high visual quality.
14. • The above doesn’t matter unless you put it for something
useful:
– Ability for people to shop for clothes with right fit/size/style
online
– Abbility for people to experience sports not only as if they were
there, but in a completely new way
• Show digitized jeans
• Show sports
• Any way to do a demo? Show holographic video of sports?

So a few of youmight be asking why sports…first of all there are roughly 170M sport sfan in the US and it’s currently about a $40B industry making it the biggest media genre….about 65% of fans consume sports content online and the majority of them doing it via a PC.
We also think there are some glaring trends like the shift in distribtion channels and the rise of new technologies.
More importantly though we think users are ready for changes.
Fans want a personalized more immersive experience where THEY have choice and control to engage with their favorite sport, teams, and players. Leagues and broadcasters want to more deeply engage fans, make more revenues, and differentiate themsleves…
We think the sports market is ready for a transformation.
Now at Intel we when we talk about making something more immersive we talk about several different facets. In general we classify immersive experiences as experiences where you are deeply engaged in content as if you were there…And we qualify it in two vectors -> expanding what you see, hear, feel, smell or and then by extension how you interact with these new iexperiences. Another relevant aspect we constantly push is these immersive expeirences can exist across a range of form factors and modes. Unilke companies out there, we are not focused solely on VR, but on enabling these experiences across any scenario with varinyg levels of immersion.
Immersion – across form factors; increase the way you interact, increase the way you sense: see hear feel
Some of the things going on in common with all immersive experiences
There is a need to capture real information and translate that into the digital world: whether that’s clothes, people’s measurements, how fast an athelte is running, your living room, or live sports event. So Intel has invested in technology like realsense that can meausre objects, scan bodies, or to be specific with sports - technologies like Replay where cameras are inserted in stadiums, and chips like curie where we can measure and analyze real time player data.
We are also investing in standardization bodies In the case of fashion we created a committee to standardizebodies, clothes, and the fusion of it, so we have smooth interopability and scale across the ecosystem.
After you capture the data we need to digitize it and analyize it in a way that’s useful to the user. For sports that menas reconstructing the entire field on it into 3d world in voxels, encoding it, and distributing. it will change everything about the way fans watch sports….We have a team of User experience experts that are studyig everything fro the latency required to the visual quality and our we believe that things like m achine learning help pick out the correct optimizing our process power will help achieve something ont only delightful but useful to the user
We bought Replay because we have a vision of putting our processing power in to transform how this technology works. In a few years, this technology will be unrecognizable and.
It is unique - Our technology doesn’t just use lots of cameras to show you a few more angles. This is actually a new way of filming. It reconstructs the entire field and everything on it into 3D voxels.
This is unique
We are going to put processing power into it
You will not believe what it will look like

Finally there is how you consume that content. One of the key facets of immerion is how you interact in a smooth, natural way. Our uX teams have studied lwhat the best way to interact with sports are, the visual quality of th esports, how responsive the system has…All so we can enable not only a delightful expeirence, but something useful!
So we are working with partners and our engineers to build hardware capabilities to optimize these expeirences as much possible.
The way people experience sports is changing and the shift is accelerating.
Today the marketplace is full of experimentation. Have you tried a set of VR goggles? The concept is cool, but to bring that technology to the polished level demanded by fans requires intense compute.
That’s where we come in. We want to put our assets to work with you.
User Centric process -> New technologies to make that experience real/quality
