 In the article, “Richmond mulls path breaking soda tax,” Mary
Flynn discusses the possibility of a tax being placed on various
sodas. She believes this tax would aid in the fight against obesity.
 The city of Richmond proposed a tax on the soda based on the
amount, for example 1 cent per ounce of soda.
 This article provides detailed statistical evidence that would
provide support for the implication of taxing other sugary junk
  foods.
 The article also provides many examples of how a tax on any
sugary substance could be beneficial to the obesity problem and
how the money raised from taxes could be used for children’s
  health funds for fighting obesity.
Research
 In Pacific McGeorge Global Business & Development Law
Journal, the entry, “Food Taxes: A Palatable Solution to the
Obesity Epidemic?”, it discusses the history of a food tax
  and the reactions/results of it.
  a9h&AN=61832900&site=ehost-live).
 It explains which foods would be appropriate to tax and
how these taxes would be beneficial to the growing obesity
  epidemic.
 The entry also gives statistical evidence that shows how
much of an impact junk food has on our society and was
published in 2011 so the information is decently accurate.
Research Cont.
 In the Journal of Public Health Policy, the entry, “State
Sales Tax Rates for Soft Drinks and Snacks Sold through
Grocery Stores and Vending Machines, 2007,” discusses the
various environmental, social, and cultural factors that
  contribute to obesity.
  a9h&AN=32487713&site=ehost-live)
 It also discusses the amount of junk food consumption and
the various profits that corporations make just on junk
  food.
 The entry provides various benefits to placing food
taxes, like, giving them to funds that would support
physical activity and obesity fighting programs.
Supporting Book
 Why Shouldn’t I eat junk food? By Usborne
 This book goes into detail about specific types of junk
  food.
 This book is suppose to reach out to children and to
parents to help them be aware of childhood obesity.
Junk Food Tax Debate
 The website, nofoodtaxes.com, is a website run by the
group, Americans Against Food Taxes. The site lists their
beliefs and reasons as to why a food tax should not be put
  into effect.
 It provides statements from citizens, businesses, and some
corporations who are against the tax. It also is kept up to
date with what is currently going on.
 The website, foodpolitics.com, is a website that promotes
healthy living and they are strong advocates for a food tax.
It is updated daily and is current with it’s news.
 It provides various statistics and statements from officials
that help support their case and provides direct quotes
from officials involved with the case.
Government Documents
 The CDC.gov website has many articles that help to
explain the growing obesity problem in the U.S.
 The website contains statistical evidence and strategies
on how to prevent childhood obesity and also
resources to find information on state-based
  programs.
 The many government articles within this site are
credible because they contain many facts about the
issue and are written based on evidence.
