1. Personal Statement
My awareness of the politicalissues around the worldhasmade me realise the impactpolitics has
on a country’seconomicstate whichiswhy I have decided tochoose thisinterdisciplinary course in
orderto study it at a degree level. NEEDA CATCHY INTRO
The revolutionary wave of anti governmentprotests, civil warandriotsthat spreadamongstthe
Arab worldtriggered myinterestingainingawiderunderstandingonthe worldaround me andthe
relationship betweeneconomics andpolitics. Forexample, the Egyptianrevolution thatoccurred in
2011 highly affected the Egyptianeconomy, causingtourismtofall dramatically;hence the decrease
inthe country’s GDP. Inaddition, studyingphilosophy would be very useful asitwill notonly give
me a deeperinsightintothe subjectitself;howeverwill provide me withthe foundations of being
able to question andreasonrationally, aswell asfacilitatingethical reflection. Atjustthe age of 15, I
foundmyself questioningvariouspolitical ideologies, attendingprotestspresentinthe UKand
reportingbackpeople’s thoughtsandopinions onanonline youthchannel. Thisenabled me to
become more andmore curious and start researchingmanypolitical andeconomical issuesthat
occur around the world.
Studyingeconomics hasgivenme aninsightonthe global issuessuchaspoverty, the economic

relatedtoEconomics inorder to give me a furtherandgreaterunderstandingof the subject. For

the worldaround us and the behaviourof firms. Inaddition Ireadthe ‘Economist’ ona regularbasis
whichhas widened myknowledge of the subjectaswell as enablingme toconstantly learnnew
information aboutthingsthatare happeningaround the world. Englishliteraturehasprovided me
withanalytical skills, the ability toreasonandcriticize andthe ability toexpress myselfclearly.
TakingMediastudies asone of my A-levelshasenabled me tolearnaboutdifferentrepresentations
inthe mediaandthere portrayals, andhasprovided opportunities forme towork ina team inorder
to produce a final product. Recently, Iwasfortunate enoughtobe able toshadow the ITV presenter
and journalistAlastairStewart, whonotonly provided me withgreatknowledge onthe subjectof
Politics, butI wasalso able to gaininsightintohisexemplary communication skillsandconfidence.
I strongly believe thatapplyingexperienceinwhateverIdois justas importantas a strong
