Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. MACBETH
Macbeth is a Shakespearean play, and subsequent
2015 movie, which masterfully illustrates the
attributes of behavioral expectation confirmation
and self-fulfilling prophecy in social psychology.
3. Behavioral Expectation
Confirmation: people's social
expectations lead them to behave in
ways that cause others to confirm
their expectations.
Another’s belief about you causes
you to act to meet that expectation.
LADY MACBETH
4. Self-Fulfilling Prophecy:
a belief that causes itself to
become true.
A belief you have causes you to
alter your actions and/or
thoughts until it comes true.
MACBETH

thus fulfilling the prophecy
To understand the movie’s correlation to psychology, we must first understand the 2 key attributes…
Lady Macbeth wants her husband to be King and will do anything to make it happen.
Macbeth is initially skeptical of the Thane and Kingship prophecy, but then accepts it as true.
The things we know about Macbeth and Lady Macbeth before the prophecy occurs are very important.Macbeth is a good soldier and defender of the crown and comfortable with that role in life.Lady Macbeth has very little care for others and desires power – she wants the crown.
Macbeth was skeptical. He and Banquo “brushed off” the witches’ portrayal of future events. Then the King’s men approach with the news Macbeth has been named Thane. The 1st part of the prophecy comes true. This very important moment causes Macbeth to re-think the prophecy’s accuracy and tells his wife in a letter.Lady Macbeth convinces her husband it is true AND it needs to happen now – murder the King the take the throne or be a coward!
Once Macbeth accepts the prophecy and the idea that he is “destined” to be King, he belief about assuming the crown and his actions toward the King, his cousin, change dramatically. Macbeth has another issue – he knows, and didn’t tell his wife – that Banquo will father the line of Kings which means Macbeth will lose the crown. Again, he changes his beliefs and actions, this time toward Banquo and orders him to be killed along with his family.
The conditioning that occurs in Macbeth is negative reinforcement from Lady Macbeth to coerce the change in his behavior and convince him to act as she desires and expects.
In the end, both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth fail to meet their subjects’ social expectations for the behavior of royalty, which results in their untimely deaths.
